@@LunarShimmer Actually, I'm going to withdraw that claim of mine. Like @palchristianandersen9086 replied, there's a really clear "Fallen Angels" (Wong Kar-Wai, ~1994?) homage right down to camera angles; and there's a scene on the steps that really reminds me of a scene in this one gang-war flick from the early 2000s with Leon Lai that I can't remember the name of. But TBH I only watched the first hour of John's LP and I'm not up for any more -- so I was being totally unfair at best, and more than likely just talking out my butt; I apologise. I think the HK vibes I got come mostly through "Stray" and not cinema, really. And I don't think those are bad vibes :) But as reccos go, the companion film to "Fallen Angels" was of course "Chungking Express", which may still be the _non plus ultra_ of moody, quirky, ultra-stylish films about isolation and love, all at Kowloon/Central street-level. Still very watchable, IMO :)
The music is great but feels like such a tonal shift? Still glad to see your play through! When I saw the trailers forever ago, I expected something more in the line of creepy and such?
Ive been sorta following this since the first trailer dropped and i was hoping it'd be more of an atmospheric mystery game but I'm not mad at what it is so far? I watched gameplay clips that came outta game shows in japan earlier this year so i wasn't surprised. just hoping the game isn't so long that the fighting gets suoer repetitive the idea of multiple super special guys to form a weird anime protag party seems cool tho. i hope you meet the next one soon
I totally forgot this game was coming out. I remember watching a trailer for it maybe a year ago. Still, youtube remembered I watched it and recommended me this so here I am.
New sub and can’t wait for more Asian horror! Since those are the ones that scare you like crazy. The Grudge was the only horror movie where I literally left the theater trying to catch my breath. Also love your commentary during the game. It’s like we’re all friends gaming together.
Great video! Just in case you didn't know, there was a prompt during the fight starting at 29:32 that let you know that if you hold RB near a pool of blood, you can heal. Not sure why the game didn't put it in one of those tutorials, but it was definitely easy to miss.
No it doesn't? That's a spirit, not an alien. There were also no demons in Parasyte. Except if the anime changed the story compared to the original manga.
Awesome thanks John! I misread as slither like as in a snake. Hopefully it's fun and totally get not wanting to do full lp if it's all action no story 😊or if the story sucks.
I will say that the action/combat focus does look like it will be less tedious than the stealth focus in Siren. Using the sightjacking mechanic to track down a disguised enemy makes a change from having to use it to make sure you stayed out of sight so you wouldn't get sniped from across the map or whatever XD I wonder if this game will have the weird "go back and play an old mission a certain way, otherwise you can't continue the plot" thing that Siren had... but with how linear it seems so far, maybe not.
This was nothing like I was expecting! But it's very cool - and I loved watching you play is specifically; the voice you've used for the protagonist is VERY funny to me haha. I get Swery52 vibes from this game, weirdly - especially with the mood swings and the music in the in-between-scenarios scene.... I'd love to see you play more of this! (especially as my own gaming skills would definitely prohibit me from progressing - this looks hard!)
Little gameplay tip: You can heal and consume blood in combat by pressing R1/RB while standing near a puddle of blood from wounded enemies. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Alright Alright Alright ....Let's see how those reviews shake out, lmao! [edit] Good idea setting out that caveat in the beginning, so you won't get all the "where's the rest, bro!?" comments (like you get whenever you leave it til the end). Ehhh, who are we kidding, they'll do it anyway.
This reminds me a little of The Darkness series, protagonist being the host of something "else" that gives them special powers, action filled and a little silly
Some of the mechanics of this remind me of Geist. It was a game by NSpace from like… 2005? My friend Tim Shwalk was on the team working on it… you could possess people, animals, objects… even a can of Shwalk Soda named after Tim 🤣. There was a danger of being caught when possessing someone, the enemies had spirit-detecting dogs, you had to usually frighten someone to weaken them for possession. It was on GameCube.
Slitter head reminds me of deadly premonition a bit of a janky game but very different and that makes you want to keep going to find out what happens next.
This is giving like gore and detective Im liking it Its not scary but the plot of the game brings me curiosity to find out the ending I can't purchase the game but hopefully john plays it and enjoys it.
It would be nice to have Julee voice acted, it's so weird with the civilians able to speak cantonese(hell, the intro song was sung in it too) but Julee just grunts etc.
This game might be the type of silly fun horror I have been looking for. Literally reminds me of prototype with the whole possession and blood weapons but in china and everyone is speaking chinese! I genuinely like this game so far!
The Alley Monster reminds me so much of the Mimic Octupus(?). I love that they got inspired, but at the same time it's very obvious and as if they only added legs and a silly face Lol No hate at the end tho! Looks and moves hella cool!
I am not really invested in this game, just because it was developed by silent hill director does not mean it's going to be good. It seems like the director isn't sure whether to make the game scary, or if he just want it to turn it into the bethesda style, action packed horror like ghostwire tokyo that isn't even remotely scary. The intro looks very mundane. First 20 min in and it feels like the gameplay is extremely repetitive, only linear progression, basically the game says to do this do that, go here go there, make sure to follow the quest marker and you can't be doing anything else. Can only play the game as the game wants you to, not much freedom of choice. Too many games nowadays are exactly like that which is a bit disappointing. Most people go through the storyline one time and never touch it again. Close to zero replayability.
Isn’t this a HK game and not Japanese? Just asking cause I’m learning a bit of Cantonese and Japanese myself on the side so I’m wondering 😮(feel free to correct since I’m still learning❤) Though good work in the video I’m enjoying it and just found ur channel cause of this videos recommendation and I subbed immediately 🎉

But TBH I only watched the first hour of John's LP and I'm not up for any more -- so I was being totally unfair at best, and more than likely just talking out my butt; I apologise.
I think the HK vibes I got come mostly through "Stray" and not cinema, really. And I don't think those are bad vibes :)
But as reccos go, the companion film to "Fallen Angels" was of course "Chungking Express", which may still be the _non plus ultra_ of moody, quirky, ultra-stylish films about isolation and love, all at Kowloon/Central street-level. Still very watchable, IMO :)
@@palchristianandersen9086 Yeah, that's what caught my eye -- "That looks like... you can't really be copying -- oh, no, you really, really are."
Body shaming simulator, lol the spirit has no chill
Slitterhead? I hardly knew her!
Lol i also was happy when i was right it was akira yamaoka! I so thought it sounded like silent hill :) makes me happy love his work!
glad to see you play John, so far. totally fine if you dont continue it but i always enjoy the content!
That was really fun! Thank you for playing, John!
Please continue this series, John! I HAVE to know the real identity of Dr. Motorcycle!!
8:10 that part with the dog, following a scent throw me back to the 102 dalmatians game for PS1, second time in my life I see a mechanic like that
The music is great but feels like such a tonal shift? Still glad to see your play through! When I saw the trailers forever ago, I expected something more in the line of creepy and such?
Brrrrruhhrrrrrr Rah!
Brrrrruhhrrrrrr Rah!
Brrrrruhhrrrrrr Rah!
Was not expecting lady Deathstrike
31:20 "She got impaled by a tentacle…. and not in the fun way either." 😂 I see you John 😏🦑
I love how dopey you made night owl sound
Ive been sorta following this since the first trailer dropped and i was hoping it'd be more of an atmospheric mystery game
but I'm not mad at what it is so far? I watched gameplay clips that came outta game shows in japan earlier this year so i wasn't surprised. just hoping the game isn't so long that the fighting gets suoer repetitive
the idea of multiple super special guys to form a weird anime protag party seems cool tho. i hope you meet the next one soon
I'm halfway through the video and this game is already a blatant hybrid of Siren and Ghostwire: Tokyo.
I've played neither so maybe this will be the perfect game for me lol.
That’s exactly what I thought
Insect parody: critterhead
i didnt realize how much of a wild time this game was going to be, thats my fault though, it IS made by the siren guy
hey John! thanks for the video first thing after work today!
This has exactly the same plot as the Parasyte Anime
No it doesn't? That's a spirit, not an alien. There were also no demons in Parasyte. Except if the anime changed the story compared to the original manga.
Awesome thanks John!
I misread as slither like as in a snake. Hopefully it's fun and totally get not wanting to do full lp if it's all action no story 😊or if the story sucks.
A Japanese made HK based game...interesting
It's kinda like "Fallen (1998)" from the killers perspective, but creepier? But also you're the hero? I like. 👍
What a throw back reference. Yeah that movie was amazing.
Great movie.
I will say that the action/combat focus does look like it will be less tedious than the stealth focus in Siren. Using the sightjacking mechanic to track down a disguised enemy makes a change from having to use it to make sure you stayed out of sight so you wouldn't get sniped from across the map or whatever XD
I wonder if this game will have the weird "go back and play an old mission a certain way, otherwise you can't continue the plot" thing that Siren had... but with how linear it seems so far, maybe not.
Unrelated but I would love to see you play Deadly Premonition
This game is weird but I love it. Been playing it the past couple days and it’s super unique!
Little gameplay tip: You can heal and consume blood in combat by pressing R1/RB while standing near a puddle of blood from wounded enemies.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I’ve been so curious about this game!
Cool a 3D remaster of 1991's arcade Avenging Spirit
Some of the mechanics of this remind me of Geist. It was a game by NSpace from like… 2005? My friend Tim Shwalk was on the team working on it… you could possess people, animals, objects… even a can of Shwalk Soda named after Tim 🤣. There was a danger of being caught when possessing someone, the enemies had spirit-detecting dogs, you had to usually frighten someone to weaken them for possession. It was on GameCube.
Slitterhead sounds like how slytherine fans calls themselves
What if a horror game had Sekiro parries?
Slitter head reminds me of deadly premonition a bit of a janky game but very different and that makes you want to keep going to find out what happens next.
I was thinking the same thing, the goofy story with disturbing elements is also really reminiscent of deadly premonition
This is giving like gore and detective
Im liking it
Its not scary but the plot of the game brings me curiosity to find out the ending
I can't purchase the game but hopefully john plays it and enjoys it.
my favorite part is that julee is doing all this running, jumping, climbing, and fighting.... in slides lol
The noises the monster's make are pretty awesome
This game is fun (to watch), it feels like Ghostwire Tokyo ish. I do hope u are continuing this series.
It would be nice to have Julee voice acted, it's so weird with the civilians able to speak cantonese(hell, the intro song was sung in it too) but Julee just grunts etc.
Good day john! i hope you're doing okay ✨
Kind of different but I'm enjoying the playthrough. Hoping you play more!
blood weapon? its like deadman wonderland in here
Ah nice Sllitterhead play by john and cool game to play and can't wait to play it as well ye 🎉🎉🎉
This game might be the type of silly fun horror I have been looking for. Literally reminds me of prototype with the whole possession and blood weapons but in china and everyone is speaking chinese!
I genuinely like this game so far!
The Alley Monster reminds me so much of the Mimic Octupus(?). I love that they got inspired, but at the same time it's very obvious and as if they only added legs and a silly face Lol
No hate at the end tho! Looks and moves hella cool!
That 1 monster let looks like a Praying. Mantis, remind me of beetlejuice versus, Freddy Krueger.
Oh wow since its Japaense developers I did not expect to hear my mother tongue...interested to see how this game turns out!
i hope you continue! this is super entertaining. Thanks John 😊👐
Just asking cause I’m learning a bit of Cantonese and Japanese myself on the side so I’m wondering 😮(feel free to correct since I’m still learning❤)
Though good work in the video I’m enjoying it and just found ur channel cause of this videos recommendation and I subbed immediately 🎉
Funny, when I saw a character in a leather jacket on a motorcycle who had patients, I thought of Steve Martin's dentist from Little Shop of Horrors.
While the gameplay doesn’t seem that scary it does seem fun, the setting, characters and story is what intrigues me. Looking forward to what this game has to offer. Whats up with Anita and so on
This feels like an anime turned in to a game and I mean that in a good way. It's interesting and I hope we see more soon
I do find this game interesting and would like to see you play more of it. However, I do wonder how long it is. It might be a bit too much if it were to end up being a seven part series or something. Three or four parts sounds about right.
Akira's music makes everything next level!
Good morning John! I always looking forward to see you uploading at my time zone which is always morning time! It's probably night there, but yeah have a good day John!
Huge, Parasyte: The Maxim, vibes with this game. Monsters remind me alot of them. Especially just waiting for their prey and the their head explodes and attacks.
This messed with my tinnitus. It was very bad after I woke up.
Fascinated with and would love to see more of this. But so far it's definitely nowhere near as weirdly engaging as Siren and Siren 2
Those voices. All I can hear is: "Rangers!" 😂
