I'll never understand how our dads could look at a flasher and see so many things. For years I thought he was just messing with me, but he was always right. Glad we don't have to rely on them now days. Great video B-LAT
I still use some of the techniques I learned from my grandpa when started bass fishing. It's cool that what you learned as a kid still helps today. Great info sir. Thanks!
You dad would be proud. Loved this video, insightful and informative. Thank you. In your opinion how is the striper tactic different than the largemouth tactics??? I’m strictly fishing saltwater stripers, the spoon is deadly on them and literally no one is using it. I’m talking about big spoons 8”&9”.
The Little small lake here in Spartanburg the water temperature was 43 two days ago.haven’t really tried a spoon there yet but I’ll have to give it a shot !
I can remember buying those slab spoons at the fishing hole in the big town of west pelzer.Bend it just a touch and it fluttered when it fell.My son uses what I have left
Thanks so much. This video is right up my alley. Table Rock is deep and clear and I pretty much keep a spoon tied on all year here. The spoons are my "go to" when things get rough. Great tips. Gotta go to heavier line though after hearing your explanation. Thank you sir!
Brian, thankyou for sharing your thoughts and techniques on the jigging spoon. I thought was excellent. Thanks for the info, I believe your approach to spoon fishing will work for me! Enjoyed the vid!
Love the videos man... very well explained and down to earth channel... I’ve been doing this a long time and learn a lot from you still... Hey don’t count out the Little George (Mann’s)... my home lake Eufaula... I change the hook and do the same application and they kill it... try it and you’ll thank me later... keep rocking the channel.. good luck this year bud..
I used a flasher for years, and still remember well when the first paper graphs came out, followed a handful of years later by the liquid crystal graphs. I ran an in-dash flasher in my '91 Ranger right up until I sold it in 2001. Good memories.
Brian, your knowledge is amazing! A lot of us quit spoons because of loosing fish! Guess that’s why I’m a telephone splicer and not a professional fisherman! Gonna try your setup on the strippers in the Ohio. Your right, what works down south will work up north if we adjust! Great one!
Great info! I don’t have a lot of deep water in the places I’m fishing. They are mostly mill ponds and the deepest water is maximum 10 feet. Could a jigging spoon still be effective in this situation?
The good 'ole Hopkins spoon. Basically catches any fish that swims( in both fresh and saltwater),, and eats bait fish... might even catch a few plant eaters by accident in the process!lol.. One of the best things about it is, unless you snag it or snap It off, it's one of the few baits that will last forever. LOL.... With all the innovations and beautiful paint jobs on crankbaits, jerkbaits, swimbaits, etc., a slab of lead or tungsten with some chrome plating, or some paint will catch them just as well, under the right conditions! Kudos for shining light on an ole school bait. I'm in my 50s and absolutely love it when someone brings back memories of an old school fish catcher!! I stopped fishing hard at the local and Federation level because of a neck injury. Right after the side-scan was introduced and at first most of us thought it was a gimmick..... I look back and say.... If I only had the electronics that are available today back in the 90's!! I'm betting you might have a few other baits or techniques that would bring back memories without giving away too many secrets!....lol Keep the great content coming! Love the B Lat enthusiasm!
Do you ever throw blade baits in those areas? The Silver Buddy and other blade baits work better for me here in VA during the winter. The water temperature is low to mid 40's on the lake I'm fishing.
@@BrianLatimerFishing Copy. I fish for stripers, wipers, and white perch with Silver Buddies and Johnson Thinfishers during the winter. I'm usually fishing 25-35 feet deep. I'll try them out deeper in 35-50 feet. They should work, they drop like a rock.
When you say "ditch" and then "drain", could you explain the difference in them in your opinion? Thank you in advance. Very informative video. I really enjoyed it.
Ive been trying to step up my off shore game. Thanks for the advice! Love your videos of tips and stuff! keep it up B Lat! Rooting for ya on tour as well! Do work in Florida!
I went to lake Monticello this passed Thursday, finally got to try my new war eagle spoons like in the video. Of course by what you say in the video I was in the wrong spot lol. I was not jigging it on humps nor on points. But in the back of a creek where bait was stacked. Unfortunately all I caught was two hand sized hybrids. Doesn’t sound like much but I was still impressed. Cause the more erratic I twitched it I got bit. Plus I was in 40’ of water. We have a tournament there January 12. Hopefully I can post good news. Thanks for the tips.
@@BrianLatimerFishing hahaha. Don’t get me hooked lol. I bet it’s a blast. I’ll keep trying and I’ll post my luck. I’m from UCLA. 😂 upper Conway lower Aynor lol. I’m sure you’ve been through here a time or two. Just curious. Do you guide at home or just fish.
@@BrianLatimerFishing I didn’t mean to sound like you were just a local fisherman from Greenville area. I meant did you guide on the side. I know your a pro and a very real type person. That’s why I watch your videos n stuff. Just didn’t want you thinking I was being rude or anything. 👍
Question: For the hook that you present in this video, how strong is this hook if you were to use it against bigger fish something like 20lbs-40lbs striped bass? And when you jigging them, you just drop it vertically and pick it up and drop it again?
Is there a way you differentiate the drum from the bass, I live on watts bar lake on the Tennessee River, I’m catching plenty of trash fish doing it, just not bass!
Man I have never really used spoons. In all my years of fishing I have played around with a spoon once. I can even remember that it was a Kastmaster spoon. Pulled up to a point with a huge drop off. Decided to play around with the spoon and caught a pretty good size 12 lbs catfish. Im not a catfish guy. So I put it up and never picked it up again. I might have to try picking some up again
Hey!! So I have a question that kinda has nothing to do with this video, but I needed your opinion on what jerk bait would be good to get for my boyfriend? He’s a HUGEEEEE fan of you (so I am☺️) but anyway! I would appreciate the advice!
We should all be so lucky to have our sons talk about us the way Brian talks about his dad! Good info, keep grindin.
They great for summer fishing also. Love the spoon.
Liked the video before it even started... its B lat mannnnnn. Love it

ThomasHardenFishing no it just really doesn’t work here. It would also be extremely inefficient to fish 30-50ft deep in my opinion but

My pops used to solder a stinger hook oh the top of his spoons ti catch the fish that hit from above.

Have you ever fished lake Martin in Alabama if you did what’s the trick to catching bass there
I have ! Great place to fish vertically

I would love to learn this technique. Gotta get better at reading my graph, though.

Okay brother dut how do you fish that lure from the bank let me know thank you.
Richard Lovett I don’t think that’ll work my friend
The frustrating days are when you find the fish, but they react negatively or not at all to the spoon.
Time to retire those old spoons you made. In a nice display case. Hats of to your dad taking you fishing.
u dad did good
