I am a retired Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and taught medical students up the road at Bristol for 35 years. Your Vlog is fascinating. You are very energetic, industrious, committed and talented. You are destined for Honours and an eminent career when you graduate. The teaching you got was good but when I was at your stage 50 years ago and we did about twice as much as you are getting in the modern course.
To be more specific, we were in at 7.30 am to take bloods, were in the operating theatre, outpatient clinics and on business and teaching ward rounds until 1.00pm. There were teaching ward rounds every Saturday morning from 9.00 am until noon and we did emergency admissions about once a week. We did 6 months of junior Surgery in the mornings only with pathology, pharmacology and social medicine in the afternoons.
I'm a 3rd yr medical student in the United States (specifically in NYC), and we also have much longer hours in the hospital. Surgery sign-outs start at 5:30 AM, and shift doesn't end until 5 PM. We run to a resident lecture during our lunch-break from 12-1, and have two 24-hour shifts during our rotation. It's quite a lot! Hardly any time to study for exams
Yes! I just finished my trauma/acute care services weeks and we had sign out at 6:30 am and 6:30 pm. So with pre-rounding and waiting until the end of sign out, we were usually in the hospital from 5:30 am until 7 pm, 6 days out of the week. It must be dependent on institution (and maybe even country)! Thanks for sharing your experience. Loved the vlog :)
I can feel that a great Doctor is on the verge of getting lot of attention very soon. You are very down to earth and that's going to help you immensely in treating your patients in the future. More then medicine , a doctor's friendly approach makes a patient more comfortable.
You’re living my Grey’s anatomy dream 😍🤩 videoların o kadar güzel ki hepsini izliyorum sırayla ve inanamayacağın kadar motive ediyor!! 😍😍 my new fav. TH-camr!
I remember being a third year. It was interesting but difficult for me and I was under pressure from multiple directions. These videos are good but are mainly focussed on success in Medicine. Failure happens to in and beyond medical school. I think dealing with that is more important than continuous success because everyone will fail/ make dangerous mistake in their career. So for anyone who isn’t having a good time in medical school or things aren’t going your way, try to learn from these best you can and do what preserves your mental and physical wellbeing. I failed an exam in 2nd year (the first exam I failed in my life) and nearly failed 3rd year (passed SBA by 1%). But thats ok, I learned from these experiences and gave myself time to recover. Do not be too hard on yourselves guys. Because afterwards my exam results did improve and now I’m working as a Radiology registrar despite my turbulent journey in medical school. A failure or set of failures do not define you, how you react from failure and success do. All the best, and I do warn about failure because real life working as a junior doctor on wards and preparing for membership exams etc (which have a huge failure rate > 50% of people fail many of these) does take its toll.
