  • Installation of a rear luggage rack on my 2022 hunter 350. At the time of recording Royal Enfield did not produce an OEM rear luggage rack so this was a pretty standard one I got off eBay.

    Thanks for posting.
    As there are Lugs behind the rear footrests, it would be very easy to add a diagonal support between the rack and footrest, offering more support and support for soft luggage..
    This gives me loads of ideas, thanks.

    Is it possible to have the grab bars on with the rack?

    • @MrCombfoot
      @MrCombfoot  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you used longer bolts and drilled out holes in your fender for clearence for the extra length it might be possible? But not something i would recommend

    Thank you for the video. I bought the same rack but have not fitted it yet as I am slightly concerned about the support just being on the rear frame bolts and not also on the shocks (like most bikes). What would you trust it with?

      I have carried my drone in hard-case, 5L of petrol, a milk crate full of shopping and a strapped down bag of books/laptop and was confident while riding with these different setups. I have not noticed any flex or give in the rack itself, and I have not noticed any negative effect on the dynamics of the bike while riding. The rack is probably good to strap down most everything that would fit on it. Just avoid overloading it by having heavy objects stacked over the side/rear. Too much weight away from the center of mass of the rack will induce larger moments, and this is what will flex the rack due to limited attachment points.

    Stumbled on this video, thanks so much for the clear instructions! I was wondering, newbie here, is it possible to install a tobbox on this rack? Maybe something universal that comes with a mounting plate? It seams like this rack is more for bags am I wrong? Thanks in advance.

      Hey, no this rack does not come with a mounting plate. This rack is sold basically as a tie down rack, which is how I use it, I have used ratchet straps to die down toolboxes, small fuel cans and a milk crate for going shopping. However I was designing a bracket to convert it to hold a top box, but my riding/videos have been put on hold for a while after I snapped my wrist in a workplace accident. When I have recovered, around Christmas, I plan to continue making some custom parts for the bike.

    That actually looks pretty good. Do you think the engine guards are worth getting?

    • @MrCombfoot
      @MrCombfoot  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sortve entirely dependent on your use case.
      I 90% use my bike on sealed roads in fairly flat terrain, so engine guards or not worthwhile for me.
      If you live or use your bike someone with hilly terrain or narrow paths where fall overs and scrapes are likely, or on gravel or road surfaces where you are likely to lowside or drop your bike, then I would purchase them.
      Accessories are expensive, add weight and increase the 'footprint' of your bike so unless you need them or you just like the aesthetic~

    On the left side grab handle, there is a third nut at the centre, but in your luggage rack that mount at the centre is missing, will not it affect the bike ?

    • @MrCombfoot
      @MrCombfoot  ปีที่แล้ว

      There is no third nut, there is an extrusion and hole here, perhaps where royal enfield intend some other accessorie to be attached, though I have not seen enfield offer any part for sale in aus that uses this mounting point. It is just empty here in this case, with no apparent purpose. Maybe they offer in other countries some sort of tie down kit for over the seat? Or passanger back rest? But to my local knowledge they are not used. The grab handles were both only attached by 2 Allen headed bolts with a nut underneath.

      @@MrCombfoot yes, In india that extrusion is for mounting Saree guard (If you know Saree, an Indian women attire, so that the Saree do not touches the wheel)
      And here in india saree guard is mandatory by law

    Would it be possible do you think?
    To retain the grab handles if you get longer bolts?
    I've done this on my Interceptor,
    I fitted a rear rack, and retained the grab rail, by just getting longer bolts than were on the bike, standard length wouldn't reach,
    About quarter inche longer did it for the Interceptor,
    I'm wondering if i could do the same thing on my Hunter?
    Cheers Paul

    • @MrCombfoot
      @MrCombfoot  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You might be able to get away with a few more mm of bolt length before having to drill the guard. There isn't much space though. It might take a bit of Jenga to get all the mounting hardware + nuts in. You can loosen the guard off and pull it away, assemble the mounting, then reattach the guard. That could help.
      I went out and had a quick look, and with this particular luggage rack and the stock grab handles, there is interference between the parts when the grab handles are mounted 'on top'. If mounting 'underneath' will just fit I think, may have to remove a little material from the grab handle tips to fit.

    • @MrCombfoot
      @MrCombfoot  ปีที่แล้ว

      I bought it on eBay from a seller based in India called 'royal-rider', and I paid 76AUD for it at the time. There a number of India based sellers selling non-OEM racks for various prices, so i would suggest shopping around and finding one that suits.

    whats the name of the luggage rack? trying to find it.

    • @MrCombfoot
      @MrCombfoot  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      it is an unbranded rack, ordered on eBay. 'Hunter 350 Luggage rack' brings up a number of sellers all selling the exact same item. Unlike my other parts I've put on the bike, royal enfield does not make an OEM luggage rack, so this rack is just a cheap rack of moderate quality.
