    Fantastic video, though would have been slightly better if you put all four images together (top-left, top-right, bottom-left and bottom-right) so we could easily compare the differences. :)

    Could you maybe do a video on how to direct a photoshoot ? I want to start doing that but I have no clue how to make it comfortable and fun for the subjects~

    The light changed dramatically yet the settings were the same for all the example shots

  • @AleksandarRoman

    Could you just explane us, why do you use ISO 500, and shutter 1/1000, when you could lower shutter slightly and stay at low ISO for best quality?

    • @JessicaKobeissi
      @JessicaKobeissi  8 ปีที่แล้ว +47

      the quality is great as is, 500 iso is nothing really to me...plus i really like the grain either way :) i dont pay too much attention to specs, i try to focus on the quality of light more.

    • @liftupmysoulftf
      @liftupmysoulftf 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can just mess around with the settings whatever you want as long as the exposure is good. But for me, i prefer high shutterspeed to freeze the little movements or shake in my hands. I have a shaky hands. Hahahaha

    • @WaqasNasir
      @WaqasNasir 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      High ISO is the last resort when aperture and shutter both could not make it ... since subject is stationary 1000 shutter could have been stepped down 3 stops to lower ISO 3 stops .. the exposure would have been same but with sharper image ..
      anyways im not criticizing .. just presenting photography theory ..

    • @xandervlassenbroeck5222
      @xandervlassenbroeck5222 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's not actually true because you still do shake a little or the model could be moving a tiny bitsy. So if you use a high shutter speed, you freeze that movement. For the ISO, you wouldn't notice any difference on a camera like the Canon 5D mark III. So she's actually making the right decision even though she doesn't pay attention to specs that much.

    • @krisdeagle1455
      @krisdeagle1455 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Xander Vlassenbroeck Unless you have ridiculous shake, you won’t notice it at those speeds.

  • @richardcorfield9926

    I imagine you could use the others creatively, especially the backlit if you expose for the skin with intent of creating a high key shot. (And you have a lens that won't flare when you do it.)

  • @thepiecesfit5049
    @thepiecesfit5049 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The flaw with this approach is that the same exposure is used for every shot. If the subject was metered for each angle the differences would not be so great. I’d like to see this test done when the skin tone is exposed correctly in each shot.

    Definitely a good tip. I honestly don't think any of the four photos were necessarily "bad". If anything, the pictures where the light was hitting one side of her face sorta gave off a moody vibe which I thought was cool. I think this is a great tip for capturing a specific feel to a picture. Thanks :)

    Great advice. I think it's also a lot easier for people with MILC to see the light on models face, cause when you use DSLR and look through optical viewfinder and see just a bit darker skin (cause of the shadow) it's usually gonna be a lot darker on captured image (cause human eye's dynamic range is awesome, and cameras DR is poor compared to the eye). However, people with MILC can see it right away...

    Great tips regarding light! But shutter speed 1/1000?! You don't need to go higher than 1/250 here, maybe 1/320. And then you can use a lower ISO. Even with modern cameras that have great sensors, at ISO 500 the image becomes degraded compared to ISO 100-200.
