CCTV footage shows Jamal Rutledge being booked at a police station when the officer processing his case suddenly collapses from a heart attack. Rutledge begins shouting and kicking a security door to alert other officers who soon arrive and perform CPR. The teenager and other men will be honoured in a ceremony next week.

he was being arrested for violation of probation, he was on probation for criminal mischief and burglary

I feel so conditioned to assuming the officers would have assumed the teen was responsible for the downed officer. It's so nice to see the officers recognize him as a hero for helping save their fellow officer.

Not all people who commit crimes are bad to their core. There are MANY instances in prison where a Prison Officer was saved by an inmate. My respect goes out to this teen and I hope things have turned around for him.
Unfortunately it hasn’t. In 2018 he was charged with a total of 12 offenses that included burglary, grand theft, theft of a firearm and criminal mischief that resulted in damages over $1,000. Then in 2022 he was arrested for burglary again.

This is heartwarming. I’m glad they got to the officer in time thanks to the teen and everyone working together.
Hopefully, this gave the young man the motivation to change his life for the better.
Unfortunately it seems in this case it wasn't enough; the most recent arrest with information I can find is in Santa Barbara on 01/01/20 with various charges relating to stolen goods and carrying a concealed weapon and firearm.
It's a shame. I can at least credit him for this moment.

Follow up. Search internet for “Jamal Rutledge Florida”. Sadly he has continued in his criminal pursuits.
Hate to disappoint you but in 2022 he was arrested for being part of a gang who were violently breaking into people's homes and committing robberies.

Finally someone with some brains. I think the kid only did it because he didn't want to be stuck in there overnight and forgotten or something. That's why it took him so long to help, and that's why he's a career criminal to this day.

A young man heading down the wrong path was given the opportunity to save another human being. I’m glad he was given the chance and took it. I hope his life is immensely better now.
