Why Scout Troopers were a bunch of degenerates

- The Scout Trooper Corp is one of the most elite special forces branches in the Imperial Military. The job they are required to do is quite difficult and therefore the recruiting standards and practices are a bit different. What you get as a result is a bunch of flippant and slightly deranged thrill seekers. My kind of people.

Honestly, that was the most real scene. They were just waiting while one was bored and curious, and the other was trying to take it seriously.

We need more scenes in Star Wars like this one. Even if its just a quick one-liner that fans would automadically recognize as something someone would say or do in real life if put in the same situation.

Reminds me of what they told us in the Infantry, your squad leader would usually be loaded with mostly tracer rounds to help direct fire if needed, but the saying was "if the SL is shooting, things are fked"
Not in the units I served in.. someone UNABLE to effectively fight at such a basic Frontline unit has no business being in it an there to start with.
This is a concept if your Battalion, Regiment an Division COs are having to PERSONALLY join the fighting, usually. If your Division CO is having to help shoot MANY MANY things have gone wrong an your unit is probably screwed in this day an age. But from about Company an Battalion.. DEFINITELY round Platoon an smaller EVERYONE is a fighter in a Line unit
In the UK everyone has tracer rounds.
@@ragingtomtom yes but at the MOST basic levels "Tracers only" makes for someone who's a sitting duck an in the way.. they won't make it for sure in particularly nasty engagements. When I served in my country's Armed Forces our infantry was every 4th or 5th round in a standard rifle magazine of about 30 was a Tracer all others were standard live rounds for obvious reasons. With every 3rd to 5th on a belt of machine gun ammo regardless of the MG an its class was Tracer to make sure you were ACTUALLY shooting where wanted

What unit were you with. 10th mountain SL was on the line. PL usually was in the rear but, even he had to pop some rounds.

Is it just me, or are Scout Troopers the most consistently funny type of trooper in StarWars? If I’m not mistaken, almost every time there’s an iconic funny moment, there’s a scout trooper involved
I'm really glad they let them be different. Paratroopers and advanced scouts are some of the wildest soldiers you'll meet. It takes a special kind of soldier to want to roam around behind enemy lines alone or with a small team. WW2 advanced scouts expected an 80% casualty rate going in. It was a volunteer only position.
I always forget that Stormtroopers (and their variants) are actually the elite special forces, and not the common soldier. They actually do have the best aim and skills among the Empire’s military, they just miss characters in shows and movies for plot reasons.
Edit: seems some dorks in the comments don’t realize that the Stormtroopers make up a small percent of the total imperial combat personnel, with the vast majority being made up of a boots-to-the-ground, asses-in-trenches Imperial Army
I feel like that isn't true. Stormtroopers are more akin to the standard US Army Solider or Marine.
Anyone below them is more like the National Guard or draftees
Everyone above the average Stormtrooper are your special forces.
@Toast2005 the video literally explains how storm troopers are trained from childhood.
Comparing that with regular army or marines with what? 10~12 weeks of basic training? Is ridiculous.
The reason why you see a lot of storm troopers in the shows/movies is because the empire's population is ridiculously high and the locations we see are usually points of interest. They're not going to defend the death star with regular soldiers.
@Jet-ij9zc Your argument makes zero sense. You just need to think a little harder.
Army and Marines still train after basic 😂😂😂😂😂.
That's called being enlisted bro
@@Toast2005 I know that, but the majority storm troopers train for more than decade before they even become storm troopers. Then they obviously keep training while they're storm troopers
We need more Star wars stories from the POV of normal people like these guys
That's a good chunk of andor
@@postmodernjambox5951 yep, and rogue one.
Even though I'm not a big fan of the rebels and all that it was amazing to not have super human like characters, but just normal, flawed people who really don't wanna die.
Truee I want a Star Wars story of an Imperial Soldier in the Army (not just Stormtrooper Corps), or the story of someone living in the lower levels of Imperial Coruscant, perhaps about the organized crime there. So many possibilities.
Star wars slice of life
@buffalowt I'd be down for that, for a change.
Imagine a Star Wars series that revolves around a stormtrooper on the front lines somewhere. In the same vein as ‘All Quiet on the Western Front’. That could be epic!
And they'll be back home before space Christmas!
@@KrusherMike You mean Life Day
I bought I was the only one th8nking about this!
Those two actually made me think. If Disney Star Wars had a more chronological structure, i.e. didn't jump around in time so much with each show and movie, wouldn't it be fun seeing one or two Troopers again and again? They wouldn't even always be involved in the main action. We could have seen a Trooper contingent decimated out by the main characters and have an end credit scene where those two get assigned there to replace those losses. Or they recognize someone like Din Djarin because they have seen before what he can do and give each other some blaster scaring on the armor or maybe even injure each other so they can report they engaged him and have been lucky to survive. After all, Bacta heals many wounds.
So Red vs Blue, but in Star Wars and *heavily* modified?
@@Taron_HaiTar I gues something like Antonio, Carlos and Jobin from Cowboy Beebop (the 3 old guys).

Thanks for bringning Cowboy Beebop up, love *the classic* to be mentioned!
I feel like if Lucas had the empire be the focus then we would’ve had troopers take the roles the C-3PO and R2-D2 took from hidden fortress. Just two guys wandering around battlefields and wondering why they’re in the middle of it
@@ethanwoolard9668 Well, the first movie was meant to be self-contained and with the time between the original and the prequel trilogy it would have been difficult to built something like that in.
For this to work you would need a series of movies and shows that are chronologically closer together.
Even within the Expanded Universe it would have been difficult to pull off as there was not really an oversight about the stories.
Considering that the 'Dark Empire' comics were rarely mentioned in other books and in those the New Republic temporarily lost control of Coruscant, something that would have eroded the trust of the people in the New Republic for quite some time.
One thing that pro-Jedi/Rebels fans forget is that the Empire is so dumb because the SW IP is told from the Reble side, so of course TKs are going to bump their head on the bulkhead. Of course that can't hit the broadside of a Sandcrawler... It's Hogan's Heros vs. Platoon
That's why love Andor and especially Rogue 1, the Empire felt like a genuine threat to Rebel foot soldiers
@@venomousdc_0142 *"felicidades"* like a genuine threat? 🤔
I think your auto-correct is acting up, buddy.
@@venomousdc_0142 the Stormtroopers in Andor were facing civilians with no guns, and from a vantage point.
As per George Lucas, Star Wars was written for 12 year olds. Of course storm troopers would be clumsy.
Unpopular opinion, Stalag 13's luftwaffe(???) soldiers are pretty competent they just have quite literally the most inept leadership and the visiting german leadership tends to be pretty damn dumb too.
In A New Hope, you can see a stormtrooper checking downed men to see if they're dead or merely wounded when Darth Vader makes his entrance.
You actually see it twice in the opening battle.. It happens a second time when another trooper goes down right before R2 and C3PO cross the corridor. Then again later on the death star, one trooper tries to stop a hit comrade from falling (before Luke and Leia swing)
Ever since return of the Jedi I thought their helmets looked so badass
I wonder how many people joined the Empire because of Saul Guerrer's brutality
He likely caused a lot of fanaticism within the empires ranks. A great example is Agent Kallus. He took part in a genocide because his entire unit was wiped out by Saw's terrorists
Better call Saul
Stormtroopers are highly effective and very accurate. The problem is our POV is usually through the eyes of top tier force users that redirect, block or freeze blaster bolts. Even the Luck that Lando and Han have is from low level force sensitivity. Luck is low level precognition which lets them passively dodge attacks and never miss.
I don’t suppose the usual “bad feeling about this” is one of these?
The force has a "need" for everyone however when the force no longer needs you, you're sol, just look at the guy who couldn't see traversing that battlefield in rebels? Scarrife? He needed to do something to allow a transmission through the shield and as soon as he did that 💀

I love scenes showing the imperial troops more in depth and threatening. Honestly the scouts Luke went up against showed skill holding their own against a powerful force user.
That scene always reminded me of something you would see in the Venture Brothers.
Couple of henchmen hanging around bullshitting before they get horrifically killed by Brock Sampson.

Hands down a conversation I'd have with my buddy in that situation 😅
Absolutely my favourite scene. It reminded me of Tolkien and Lord of the Rings, where the hobbits are listening to the Orcs just have a "normal" conversation. It really opens up dimensions about who the "enemy" is, and why.
Alan once again nailing the whole motorcycle thing. Never hit a bird but lots of bugs. Glad everytime I've had my visor down. Granted I wear exclusively full face.
And those two scout troopers were giving major red vs blue vibes.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who caught that😂
Ah, the good old days when Rooster Teeth just made funny shorter videos without attempts at some grand plot line. Just soldiers being average funny dudes in the wilderness.
Oh yeah. Heavy Rv.B vibes from those two.
So glad someone finally shed light more on the empire cause so many jokes about them but the empire is very threatening. Reason why the Rebels suffer casualties at high numbers than empire. LOVE GENERATION TECH
Honestly i think there needs to be more grounded shows about the empire which show imperials crushing rebels and other enemies. There was an element in the bad batch but i think Star Wars is well overdue for more darker and grittier shows like Andor.
One of the things Star Wars does really well is the life of the lower enlisted. Watching some of these scenes takes me back to the flightline in the desert just talking about random crap out of boredom.
My favorite was the guards in Episode IV guarding the tractor beam. Things going to hell, alarms sound, assume it's yet another drill and go back to BS'ing.
I’ve been subscribed to Generation Tech for at least 4 years now, and this video was so perfectly constructed, paced, informative, and relatable to our lives. Keep creating at the level you guys are and I’ll never stop watching, fantastic stuff guys!!
Funny how many soldiers are here relating to them
Yup my favorite motto is “some need therapy I have my motorcycle” that’s why I love this channel so much is bc it’s a Star Wars channel at heart but he makes real world comparisons and makes it all seem more realistic
Zipping through a forest on a hover-bike that's twice as fast as a Formula 1 car? What could possibly go wrong?
Helicopter pilots seem to have the same attitude as these Scout Troopers. They're flying incredibly dangerous machines with complex controls that require constant adjustments, so they need to have a special kind of mindset.
I’ve always said rotary pilots are absolutely insane, which is exactly why I want to be a rotary pilot (Not for military but for air medical). It takes a special kind of person to fly a machine that by all laws of physics should not be able to be stable in the air
@@foldervtolvr studying all the laws of physics that keep those things stable in the air has made me want to stay as far from designing or working on helicopters as possible.

One of those scout troopers in The Mandalorian was played by Jason Sedekis. It would've been pure gold if he'd used Ted Lasso's accent

I found it hilarious that they missed shooting at a can. Do they really those hold-out blasters can do serious damage?
I mean it made leia crash.. the real problems the button trigger it’s so dumb
@@GenerationTechIt also got me with that Scout trooper on Ryloth that thinks he can just shoot the Ghost with it in Rebels

@@GenerationTech LOL!
Even if they can do serious damage, something rattling in your own blaster is not a good sign at all
I've said it one if not a hundred times, and it's a well documented fact that storm trooper armor is the best armor accept against - slaps, punches, kicks, sticks, stones, logs, boulders, trees, sling stones, bullets, lazers, side glances and harsh words. Otherwise as far as armor goes it's the bee's knees.
A stormtrooper show where they are just bros would be so good .... Say like M.A.S.H but in Star wars would be so cool
we all know that no mather how many billions of stormtroopers they have they wont be able to do anything accept killing themself . a blind goldfish is more of a threat than the entire Empire xD

Wonder how many scout troopers on Endor decided "Fuck this. I'm not getting eaten by murder teddybears." And just ran for it on their speeder bikes.

Ran for it to where? Theyd still be stuck on that moon with a buch of murder teddybears?
i love another detail that their Visor is Considerably larger than a Stormtrooper giving them more Awareness and field of view.
Based on how you describe biking, you should try skydiving. Same kind of zen, "in the moment" feeling.
I'm going to be pedantic here but my inner gun nut is triggered by the EC17. You opted for a side trigger rather enlarging the trigger guard. Who designed this thing, some penny pinching bureaucrat who only wants "military grade" equipment?
besides, why even have a trigger guard in the first place if you're gonna have a side trigger like that? it completely defeats the purpose of the trigger guard
Their probably adrenaline junky speeder bikers who had to serve because their planet is held hostage by the empire. Aren't most policing troopers just planet local police with height requirements?
I've no doubt Disney will give us more stories from everyday troopers and answer the important questions: How many storm troopers were women? How many identify as non-binary? How many were into wookies?
Scout Trooper was my favorite Star Wars action figure of all time, still have one in my collection. Definitely my fellow degenerates 🤡❤
When I would ride my bike as a kid in the country whenever I looked behind me to check for any cars it would remind me of the scout trooper from return of the jedi checking behind himself. I always wanted to have a speeder bike.
On battle front,, the scouts always were hard to use... but they were also fun, after you got good at the game 🎮 😏... battle front was totally awesome to play!! Any version of it
It’s interesting that the imperial officers in rebels and most across the media look similar to the Ss while the stormtroopers definitely WW1 elites of the German imperial army.
It's so bazar that the the bad guys army in films almost always are supposed to be really powerful skilled and dangerous but they are usually a joke.

100% facts on the joy of riding motorcycles.
The whole thing with being zen on a bike is the same feeling I get with longboarding. Get on a long walking trail, pop in some music, and go. Bonus too if it's really hilly since on the way back it's minimal pushing and the trail just takes you. Then you may come across a steep hill or intentionally seek it out and you just commit. You either go full on and zoom down it or you carve it like a wave(which is why I do, I don't wanna die lol), but still going pretty fast and is just a rush. Then when it evens out and is flat again it's just a really calming feeling.
I loved this scene so much at the time I laughed for like 10 minutes straight glad to see it getting its love
Legit the best scene and realest characters in the Mandoverse. Ywah, it definitely broke the tension up, was kinda quarky when it shouldnt had been. But hey, thats life. Someone always ready with a snappy one liner or jab lol. We need more writing like that with other characters.
Something something "Good soldiers follow orders."
The comparison to the nazis is very apt, that's literally where they got their unit type name
Also the dark side was literally originally space Nazis.
I remember when I was a kid, I used to carry around a Scout Trooper action figure everywhere I went. I miss that toy. 😢

They (the ones away from the town having an extensive conversation and shooting at random shit to prove how inaccurate the pistols were) were a reference to the old Red vs Blue series "why are we here?". The Argentinian military still uses the Stahlhelm, German uses it for special events, some African countries use it, and many other countries, US included have their own variation of the German Stahlhelm. Plus the Stahlhelm itself is a more modern version of a design from the middle ages.
Beyond the freedom of riding, there were probably other perks to being in the Scout Trooper Corps. As long as the scout trooper(s) did his/her duties and did not violate them, the position could have the privilege of a wide latitude. The scout trooper could have been the "go to guy" like the supply sergeant who ran a side hustle. Also, as a member of a small team, there were probably greater opportunities for personal glory and (monetary) reward.
my favorite is when the troopers knock out baby yoda it always cracks me up

Transmissions from the 439th Legion, on Training Maneuvers on Byss:
"This leads me to the performance of the newly-arrived light infantry, the scout troopers. While certainly well-equipped and just as effective as reports suggested, the scout trooper platoon has encountered resistance when fitting in with the rest of the Legion. The friction is almost entirely on the side of the scouts, who seem to have made a sport of being as difficult and as offensive as possible to anyone of equal or lesser rank. The sound of the speeder-bikes is frequently heard tearing through the barracks at all hours of the night, I believe with the express purpose of disrupting the other troopers' sleep. While the scouts show extreme camaraderie with each other, they frequently refuse to acknowledge the other enlisted men. By and large, the entire platoon seems to be composed of egotistical, unpleasant braggarts. My suggestion would be to keep them separate from the general armed forces, or it will only be a matter of time before the other men tear them limb from limb."
"Baby Gogurt"...LOL! Love those little micro-jokes that you slip in in such a way that it could be easily missed. 🤣

Worth noting that most Imperial Commandos started off as Scout Troopers, which might explain why the armor of said commandos was just scout trooper armor but in black.
