Most people that are rated as great rock vocalists such as Plant and Gillan only had to concentrate solely on singing. However, it is much more difficult to sing and play excellent guitar at the same time. This guy manages to combine vocals and often quite intricate guitar work seemingly effortlessly ;RESPECT !!!
The Led Zep tone sounded so much like it did on the original! and just when I though it coldn't it get better, in comes "I Am The Walrus" :D !!!! Phil is such a legend.
Please tell Phil he has a fan in Germany...amazing attitude and wonderful skills.I'm not much of a guitar player, but watching him play and sing cheers me to pick it up again and try.
A little out to lunch in the beginning, ha! But once you got playing, woo hoo! Love the guitar, and all your Rick demos do them justice. The Zep sounds great. And I liked your message at the end. From a '63er to a '66er, rock on!
I have a 1975 360 MapleGlow in mint condition that an Uncle of mine gave to me a few years ago. Thought I had won the lotto with that one! Phil is right on about the "more soul" thing as you get older. Back in my late teens/early 20s , I used to blister my fretboards. But as time advanced (I'm pushing 40 now), I slowed way the hell down and got more bluesier, concentrated far more on my tone and rhythm. I play more clean now than with a shitload of distortion. Are we just old men now Phil? LOL!
You're 43!!! You look like you're in your late 20's!!! I guess the rock 'n' roll lifestyle isn't as bad for you as they say. Happy Birthday again and keep the videos coming : )
THank you f or the gift. I have a Rickenbacker affection (fetish). I want to play like you, with blister. Beautiful technique, lovely connection, you are the music. I love to write, and the examples of melody and arrangement of the songs you play is inspiration to do it like that. Play it like that. Thanks. How much you play is so right on. Thanks. Play on. What a way to go. I'm 68 times around the sun. Play on. When I get to the bottom, I go back to top of the slide, then I stop and I turn and I go for a ride until I see you again. Managed reckless abandon. The music is magic. Welcome to the parade.
LOVED Helter Skelter!! Best vid in a while. Too bad, I dont see this guitar on the FA site, I hope it's not sold already. Damn Phil, I thought you were like 20, hah.
8:20 I like the bit about your age. I picked up guitar at 25 years of age. I thought maybe I was too old and should have started younger, and to this day I still regret not starting sooner since I always wanted to, but I still think I can be rock n' roll and do the whole band thing. The stones have proved you can in your 70's and still be rock n' roll. Age is not important is what I'm saying.
What?Born in 1966?He looks less than thirty!Btw he is totally right. It's about how MUCH you play, not about how old are you,or how long you've been playing.
@F3FisGoodforYou I think Rickenbackers are beautiful, maybe even a little flashy. Also, NAMM isn't just a giant music store for a bunch of slimy teenagers to get their grimy hands on the latest EMG equipped shred machine, it's a place for dealers, investors, and professional musicians to check out the latest offerings from many different companies. Some booths let you play their instruments, that's cool. Some booths don't, I respect that.
Again, happy birthday Phil! Just saw this video... For some reason TH-cam isn't showing all the new Fretted Americana videos on my main page. Oh well, keep on melting faces!
Yo, it's not an OS, it's a Capri. OS stood for "Old Style," which was designated for custom ordered double bound guitars after they had switched to the "new" style 360 (with rounded top). Technically, this wasn't "old style," it was the current production standard, not a custom order "OS" Great video though, nice Capri!
When he stopped playing Led Zeppelin i was like, "COME OOOON PLAY MORE ZEPPELIN" !! and then Beatles kicked in and i was like, "oh! ok, it's fine!! rock on!!"
@F3FisGoodforYou that's what makes them so cool...... its a great design... thats why all the greats have played them.. maybe you should take up another instrument
haha phil x rocks xD "comes from the lands of the icen snow, with a something and a something and a something hoooo!!!! hahaha phil you rock so much man!!!
@ShamusGarfunkle3 I believe the Casinos weren't adopted by the Beatles until after the release of Day Tripper. Before that, at least John was playing Ricks, if not John and George. That's just off the top of my head.
wow that's impossible, seriously he looks like he's 20!!!!!! i'm f'n shocked right now he is at the age of my dad and he looks alot younger then him O.O
How much is this guitar, im guessing $7500 + I have a mint 10/10 cherry red 66 Epiphone crestwood with the wooden trem, would your shop consider a part ex. I am after a 360 12 but am finding it hard to find one.
When you were talking about the tone, it being to bright on 10 and too muddy on zero. And then you said you found a good tone in the middle. I'm going out on a limb here. Did you have it on 5? xD
hey, the dudes from the show pawn stars on history channel have a 1930s electric rickenbacher (before they changed their name) frying pan guitar. you should buy it from them and have phil x play it. then hed play an even older rickenbacker. :D
First thing, I tried a copy one on a store. Then I don't know what to do on a Rickenbacker guitar. So I took it back and said it nothing special. But when I saw this.. I think I've said a huge mistake back on the music shop.. =/
Love the Helter Skelter rendition! Nicely played!
"you can play any style in any guitar" so true
i just fell in love with rickenbackers
Phil your crazy skilled!!
CANADA LOVES YOU!!!
ROCK!!!!!
The Led Zep tone sounded so much like it did on the original! and just when I though it coldn't it get better, in comes "I Am The Walrus" :D !!!!
Phil is such a legend.
He said 'six and a half pounds'....at current exchange rates, that's just over $10
When I saw that guitar I knew the Beatles were part of the menu. Thanks FA and PhilX. Hey PhilX, we're just a year apart, so you ain't old!
These videos are the most fun videos on all of youtube I swear to you.
Please tell Phil he has a fan in Germany...amazing attitude and wonderful skills.I'm not much of a guitar player, but watching him play and sing cheers me to pick it up again and try.
Love it!! Thank you Phil X for covering one of my favorite bands of all time =D
You guys are lucky to demo all of those guitars!
You held up amazingly well.
You're a great guitarist!!! Wish i could play bass as fast like that
I think that guitar sounds fantastic!
I love this guitar so much. Rickenbacker keeps making me want to spend money.

I want Phil by my side to play any song what I wanna hear. This guy is great.
Best demo yet - off to learn so Beatles stuff!
A little out to lunch in the beginning, ha! But once you got playing, woo hoo! Love the guitar, and all your Rick demos do them justice. The Zep sounds great. And I liked your message at the end. From a '63er to a '66er, rock on!
the midrange is just delicious on this one!
man you made my day!! such a great guitar playing. and your tests are very fun to watch.
I have a 1975 360 MapleGlow in mint condition that an Uncle of mine gave to me a few years ago. Thought I had won the lotto with that one! it's in stock but we haven't put it on the web site yet!
That guitar probably cost more than my house
You're 43!!!

i stopped coming here to see great vintage guitars a long time ago. Now it's just the urge to see phil x playing. He's like Chuck Norris of guitar.
Absolutely fantastic.
LOVED Helter Skelter!!
Best vid in a while.

Helter Skelter =-= Awesomeness
I love how the guitar goes outta tune when he hammers it. Sounds great.
@topopops I'm so sorry, but this one has been sold....please check our website for new additions :)
Toaster pickups with microwave knobs!
ITs the Microwavecaster!!...... BAcker.......Toaster.
Whatever its AWESOME!
Work of art baby.
Rocking out keeps you young,man.
That neck pickup sound at 2:57 is AMAZING. Needed a nice Les Paul to add to my collection, but I think Rickenbacker just skipped ahead in the queue.
it is not about how old you are or how long you've been playing, it's how much you play. Genius
More Rickenbackers!
plucking the strings really hard... i like it....
wish they made them like that now.
plenty of soul, keep it coming Phil
Agree with @gav240z. The rap about your age is spot on... Enjoy the process man!
I just love when he plays Beatles
thinking about getting either a rickenbacker or a vintage mustang need pros and cons
What?Born in 1966?He looks less than thirty!Btw he is totally right. It's about how MUCH you play, not about how old are you,or how long you've been playing.
Happy birthday!
Would love to see him have a jamsection with Paul Gilbert. They both love the blues and seem to have alot of fun when jamming, so that'd be awesome.
@F3FisGoodforYou

I have a Phil X shirt but where do I get a The Drills shirt? LOVE this guitar.
hmmm out of 200 vids, i think that might be the 3rd or 4th time he's played that tune...
and it still kicks A** !!
How a guitar demo/test should be!!!
Again, happy birthday Phil! Just saw this video... For some reason TH-cam isn't showing all the new Fretted Americana videos on my main page. Oh well, keep on melting faces!
Killed it on the Beatles tunes.
this goes in my top 10
I would've loved to hear "Town Called Malice" by The Jam.
In addition, you could pass for being born in 1980 like me!
I'm "the Walrus" is GREAT! Love that song.
I love this video!!!
how many more times, what??
Yo, it's not an OS, it's a Capri.
OS stood for "Old Style," which was designated for custom ordered double bound guitars after they had switched to the "new" style 360 (with rounded top).
Technically, this wasn't "old style," it was the current production standard, not a custom order "OS"
Great video though, nice Capri!
Dude, you're 43? I would have pegged you at 25, 27 tops! You've got the fountain of youth in that epic personality of yours =P
When he stopped playing Led Zeppelin i was like, "COME OOOON PLAY MORE ZEPPELIN" !! and then Beatles kicked in and i was like, "oh! ok, it's fine!! rock on!!"
Helter skelter! Rock on man
best phil review ever :)
while playin beatles, why does get that hard, clean tone out of that guitar, is it the amp or guitar, or just some setting?
That Led Zeppelin tone is sick
He just had a birthday he is like 46. It's crazy though he does look in his 20's easily.
Silly Phil, I'm pretty sure they played Day Tripper on a Casino!
... but who gives a F**k that thing sounded freaking beastly!!!
@F3FisGoodforYou that's what makes them so cool...... its a great design... thats why all the greats have played them.. maybe you should take up another instrument
Zeppelin medley!!!!!
whoa i thought he was in his late 20's
@SteveShivik I love the pickguard, I was turned off by the price!
what song is that little e riff at 4:30 from??? i just blanked on the name
haha phil x rocks xD "comes from the lands of the icen snow, with a something and a something and a something hoooo!!!! hahaha phil you rock so much man!!!
Rickenbacker + VOX = Beatles
How do you guys get your hands on all of these rare instruments? I love it!
@ShamusGarfunkle3 I believe the Casinos weren't adopted by the Beatles until after the release of Day Tripper. Before that, at least John was playing Ricks, if not John and George. That's just off the top of my head.
That strumming song sounded like best i ever had by the swellers
awesome
@Pepper2Jason go to Phil's website - Philx.tv
@alxdd2 for me, the only turn off is the pickguard

i'm f'n shocked right now he is at the age of my dad and he looks alot younger then him O.O
gotta love the pretty! pretty, pretty , pretty

you should give phil x a standing mic so we can hear him better when he's singing.
phil have you ever played a guitar with the seriel number 00001? just curious
How much is this guitar, im guessing $7500 + I have a mint 10/10 cherry red 66 Epiphone crestwood with the wooden trem, would your shop consider a part ex. I am after a 360 12 but am finding it hard to find one.

nice tag
Waiting for the Zep riff in this guy's videos is like waiting for the Metallica riff in a St. Sanders video.
hey, the dudes from the show pawn stars on history channel have a 1930s electric rickenbacher (before they changed their name) frying pan guitar. you should buy it from them and have phil x play it. then hed play an even older rickenbacker. :D
Your hired! How much was or is this guitar again?
Play a 325 already, I want to see someone negotiate the short scale neck.
Cool, cool dude.
Tonemaster = win
Tonemaster + bad monkey = epic win!
6:13 LOOK A PUPPY!!! :D
43!! ....God I would have never noticed...
Do u know the song starts at 5:15 ?
First thing, I tried a copy one on a store. Then I don't know what to do on a Rickenbacker guitar. So I took it back and said it nothing special. But when I saw this.. I think I've said a huge mistake back on the music shop.. =/
does anyone knows the name of the song at 4 38?
