  • Welcome on board another flightdeck2sim tutorial. Today we’re going to look at the rapid depressurisation and emergency descent based on real world operating procedures.
    The 737-pressurisation system is extremely reliable but it’s important that you know what to do in the event cabin pressurisation is lost.
    This tutorial has been tailored to allow you at home to try the rapid depressurisation and emergency descent.
    Good luck

    It would be interesting to see the procedure of engines out over the ocean to see the procedure and see how far the plane can glide to potentially reach a land based landing including how you pick a designated emergency landing airport. I recall there was at least one real scenario that played out where the pilot made a spectacular and successful effort with such a scenario to an island landing strip.

    This happened to my mother when flyiing back from Berlin many nyears ago - a cargo hatch hadn't been properly fastened and failed. She was a very nervous flyer anyway and was understandably terrified when there was a big bang and the aircraft started losing height rapidly! But all was under control and they landed safely.

Our only memory items are oxygen masks and crew comms, then we call for the QRC for loss of pressurization and its all read & do.

    Hey FD2S, another great video! Thanks for the detailed explanation :) I have a question regarding the topic: Isn’t an issue with the aircraft’s structural integrity the most likely cause for a decompression at cruising altitude? So unless you know 100% better would you still bug VMO/MMO like you did in the video?
    Also what are other possible causes? I could think of both packs failing at the same time what seems really unlikely to me - you would also get a master caution if more than one zone fails, right? Maybe a problem with the outflow valve’s motor unit could be the reason? So after all I feel like maintaining around 250 KIAS during the emergency descent would be the safest way to go since structural damage can never be excluded. What do you think?
    Keep up the great work!

    • @flightdeck2sim
      @flightdeck2sim  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Fabi!
      The QRH advises to bug VMO/MMO but if structural integrity is in doubt limit the speed and avoid high manoeuvring loads. You would have to make an assessment of what is going on, perhaps there is a violent vibration at higher speeds. There is no real set guidance but the default is to set VMO/MMO
      Statistically I think a technical issue is going to be the most likely cause of a uncontrolled pressurisation issue, I can think of a very small number of issues related to the outflow valve in recent years. If both Packs/Bleeds fail you should have sufficient time to initiate a more gradual descent to FL100. The important thing to remember is that any time the CAB ALT exceeds 10,000ft you immediately initiate a emergency descent to 10,000ft or the MSA (whichever is higher)
      Good Luck!
      FD2S

    @JonGaled ปีที่แล้ว

    So, yesterday I had the cabin pressure alarm sound and did the rapid descent. Im not sure what I did right but something with toggling the packs and the ac control re established pressure and I could climb back. Can you explain procedures for a cabin depressurization not caused by aircraft damage? Must have been something I set up (cruise alt was set properly)
    Thanks!

    An Air Canada pilot had to lose altitude quick when his plane ran out of fuel (fuel loading conversion error - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gimli_Glider) and did this using a `forward slip' maneuver. Although not a standard procedure, wonder if it could be used in this case as well? Ever heard of this?

    • @Mrgreeneye4000
      @Mrgreeneye4000 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! And yes there are some certain time limits that you have to achieve descending to some certain FL s and altitudes. This requirement is all about O2 requirements and availability. e.g with a 12 mins passenger oxygen system, by the end of the 5th minute you have to be at 17000 feet; ...by the end of 11th minute at 14000 feet; ...by the end of 41th minute at 10000 feet. These figures are very conservative btw
