      No question it's had bodywork done. At 9:36 while showing the wasted rubber around the mirror (totally common fault on these) the paint shows definite signs of a bad wet sand job from a cheap repair. That's NOT Mini factory paint for sure. BAD orange peel.

I just picked up a r56 MCS earlier this month as a non runner for super cheap, but it's a victim of the failed timing chain and bent valve syndrome so I'll be working on this for a good minute. Word of advice, start changing that oil every 3 to 4000 miles and use CRC gdi valve cleaner at every oil change!! A few extra $ per year will save a ton of $$$ and down time in the long run. Also have a r53 MCS 6 speed with little upgrades, absolute fun and easy car to drive and still get +30mpg!

    My friend has a 2009 Mini Cooper Clubman s he bought for $9k a few years ago. Soon after he purchased it, he had to replace the engine for $7k. He has had problem after problem with the car. Luckily it is his 3rd car that he doesn't drive very much. If you want one of these cars, lease it new for only as long as the warranty is in effect.
    Then turn it back in! The Mini dealer I visited told me it's different since 2014, that is when they started using BMW motors and transmissions. Did BMW suddenly turn reliable in 2014?

    I owned an '03 S, then an '06 JCW. You have decarbon of the head to do, timing chain, plastic thermostat housing cracking to look forward to. They were a blast to drive on the track, which this one could have done. All cars kept outside have bad rubber, typical. When you replace the windshield, get all new plastic clips, on the '03 I didn't, and one A-pillar cover blew off, sounded like a jet taking off the rest of the trip.
    Replacing gold-plated BMW parts got old, so went back to a Honda.

    The TPMS light on MINIs also comes on when you swap tires and the pressure is different above the monitoring threshold. In my old 2004 Cooper S, it would always come on when I swapped to winters/summers, so if the tires they put on are new, they possibly never reset the sensor. You should just be able to power on the car to pre-ignition while holding down the tire pressure button by the e-brake (assuming it hasn’t moved)

    When I bought my 09 JKU it was very clear that the previous owners had not taken care of it. After 6 months of ownership literally all of the suspension and brakes were replaced, the drive shaft and the egr sensor. It also needed wheels, tires and a whole lot of cosmetic repairs. I’m all told about 25 grand into this Jeep now and finally have it about where I want it but man it’s just mind blowing that people spend so much on a vehicle to not take care of it.

      I traded my 2016 Cooper S in for a 2018 Mustang GT. My Cooper had 65k miles on it and it was pristine. I just think this particular GP had a rougher than normal life.

      exactly what I thought. Ive noticed this in many videos done on the Mini, why are they so loud? Sounds like doors from 1970's vehicles

    At a guess I'd say that Mini was 'hammered' in it's life,..I'd almost bet the turbo charger has NOT had it's suggested service,..and even if the service is not yet due, according to mileage,
    I'd sure as heck would have it done soon,...very soon! Easiest and cheapest way to fix those headlights,...replace them both with aftermarket lights. According to the body damage you're finding
    it would seem that 'Car Facts' can't tell you what a good visual inspection would reveal.
    All that aside, when you get those "hot mess" items cleared away,..you will ( or should ) enjoy your Mini Cooper.

    I think is still a good deal. Just spend $3k - $4k in TLC, track it for 2 years and sell it for $15k-16k. 🤷🏻‍♂️
    I had a 2013 JCW, hella fun of car!

    It would be interesting to see which auto parts store, if they do this currently will scan and print your codes for the money lights and how compatible it is. You can also see if they will print historic codes, current codes, pending codes. If I were you guys I would order your own parts instead of letting your mechanic order them because theres a good chance you're going to pay for cheap parts or stupid euro dealership prices. See, what he recommends replacing and if he will use your parts, though probably won't offer a warranty on them. But the places I recommend is fcpeuro and Eeuroparts both carry all sorts of different European made parts at good prices cheaper than mini parts and better than Chinese parts. Plus some of these are oem parts but because they don't say Land Rover or Mini they're cheaper. Also, they come with a lifetime warranty meaning if you replace say your brakes that you bought from them, you order new ones then send your old ones back for full refund. m.eeuroparts.com/Cars/Mini/83952012/2013-Cooper-John-Cooper-Works-GP-R56-Hatchback-1-6L-4-Cyl-16-Valve-Turbo/

    There is more, timing chain problem, vacuum pump, the ECS shaft and motor, turbo, oil leak from oil filter housing gasket, lot more, enjoy the car while you still can.
    Oh forgot to mention, the mini I have with the camshaft adjuster rocker fly out while driving on freeway, no sign no noise or vibration, it just happen, after a new cylinder head put in, now it is alive again, for now.

    being the ex owner of a supercharged mini. when they are good, they are a ton of fun. but when they get sick, your wallet has a ton of fun opening up so much. things to watch out for is clutch/throw out bearing rattle, the dreaded power steering motor failure, and last but not least, the top of the coil overs have a bearing on them with a rubber cushion. if that rubber degrades, the top of your coilover will pop up and go into the hood.

    Another reason why car dealers are a bunch of crooks, and that they need to be the way of the dinosaur, be easier to buy from the factory its self.

      Might be a good idea. But how do you buy a used car from many years back from the factory? Those vehicles will still need to be bought from dealers or private owners.

    Did you guys notice that there are no stickers on the roof with the car's individual number? For $13,800, it's a steal if the only issues are cosmetic and a few lights. Brake warning light could be on because the dealer didn't change out the brake wear wire when they changed out the brake pads. A fun project car.....I'm jealous!

    • @TFLnow
      @TFLnow  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      FYI Only the first gen GP had the numbers on the roof.

    • @mendeltomas
      @mendeltomas 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'll challenge that. I've seen plenty of them (GP2s) at MINI events with roof numbers. The US number (1 to 500) on a US flag. Always the same design. Maybe it was optional?

    Seeing is a Texas car sitting in that hot sun all its life and the person never treated the leather dash ever is prolly why it warped. But still seems like a killer deal even if it has had a few non reported fender benders.

  • @josave8563
    @josave8563 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Very informative video guys. But you guys know better...you shouldn't even be doing test runs until basic maintenance is done. Maybe that engine oil wasn't 3 shades of midnight (pretty close though) quite yet. But I've worked on vehicles where the oil filter was so old it had broken into dozens of pieces. Also Trans-axel could be low, coolant, power steering, brake. I trust you guys though.

    Warped dash is a sign of poor car care and since it was in Texas I'd guess the car was not likely kept in a garage. Our summer temps can easily warp dashboards. Another reason to get your windows tinted and keep your car detailed.

    If you ever get to fixing the hood alignment, MAKE A VIDEO and I'll make sure to pass it along to my local mini dealership. "Allowance for appearance" they took 200$ off my deductible for your exact issue and I'd rather pay them the 200$ and get it right.
