Lots of people making jokes about knowing how to breathe already, but breathing correctly during times of stress can actually save you 1000s of dollars in medical expenses - stress Fs your entire body.
You prolly dont give a damn but does any of you know of a method to log back into an instagram account..? I somehow lost my account password. I would love any tricks you can offer me.
Breathing is like posture. Most humans take it for granted. But breathing is the most essential process. You can live weeks without food, days without liquid, and only minutes without air. Wake up! Take care of breathing and everything else becomes easier. Great job, Belisa!
Whenever I maintain a good posture it becomes hard for me to breathe. The fact that she said that you can round your shoulders while breathing made me wonder how would we maintain a good posture when a good breathing technique obliges you to round your shoulders. The question that occured to me now is do we even need to be postured parallel to the wall? is it really a good posture? I've seen videos about the importance of a good posture but this and that don't fit for my personal case. I'm eager to some useful info about this matter.
Everyone thinks they "know" how to breathe. Most people think that they know how to run, too. But there are vastly different levels of skill. This woman is clearly an expert, if not a master in the art and science of breathing. True skill requires time and attention. Dr. Belisa Vranich is "a breath of fresh air" in the field of self-optimization. If you are serious about your health, study her work.
She is amazing. This has changed my life. No one will tell you this: no yogi, no doctor, no physiotherapist...no one. But yet 90% of us shallow breathe and that can led to complications in life. If I could I would thank her for sharing this knowledge.
I haven't breathed in nearly 16 years which is my whole life. I never knew how to breathe. Thanks to this video, I now know how to breathe. I am truly grateful of this video and hope it does well. All I have to say is thank you. This video needs to be promoted big time. Thanks to you guys, I can breathe. I don't have really anything else to say except thank you.
What you said was shocking. And true. I didn't breathe properly for over 40 years and I didnt know what is wrong with me. You explained a lot. I agree with that in 100%. Thanks. God bless you.
I had the privilege of working with Belisa nearly two years ago. Her sessions changed my life. Very grateful for her work and commitment to helping people.
Awesome presentation! As a health professional, I measure HRV which which indicates the health if the nervous system. When I measure a clients HRV before and after the diaphramatic breathing, there is a measured improvement in the nervous system, everytime.
After choosing to watch a dozen videos of the countless TED Talks which delve into the history of or the importance of good breath and breathing, this is the first which shows how. Thanks Ms. Vranich!
I have anxiety. Have had it for about 7 years also. Sometimes I even forget to breathe or hold my breath unconsciously. If I eat something that triggers my anxiety I get sick right away. Major stomachache which leads to dizziness, stiffen neck and shoulders/shoulder pain, cold hands and feet etc. After months of cutting out I ate bread and dairy over the weekend and immediately with lack of sleep felt sick. No energy all of above sensations. Short anxiety attacks coming and going fast. Just wanted something to calm my nerves and found this. It helped me relax quite a lot to keep my thoughts away from being anxious.
Breathing really is something that is so essential and many struggle with it in their daily lives. It can help in many different scenarios and I feel as though this video was very informational and can be a strong resource for many!
I have done this change like since 2 years ago and slowly added other breathing details like training holding your breath, or doing the VIM HOF techniques. I love how this liberates your health and lowers stress and inflammation with time

these TED talks make me feel like I've been doing life all wrong. But I'm so happy and fortunate to have these tools available during this lifetime! huge fan of meditation, stretching, breath work, progressive muscle relaxation, and emotional freedom technique
Dr. Belisa is incredible. Not only have I read her book...I've been in her workshops. Her workshops are an "experience" in which have taught me the importance of breathing. Now I'm a horizontal breather without even thinking about it. What's also great is that it's not so esoteric, it's scientifically based. It can only help. Especially for those who practice meditation, praying, in a stressful situation. It absolutely works. Hands down. I know from experience. When I'm going through stress overload, it helps every time. Especially when I'm working - many on my computer - I do her excercises while sitting at my desk. I recommend reading her book and trying it for yourself. And trust me, I'm a very skeptical person, but actually doing these excercises - it's changed me. I find I have more endurance and I'm not as tired as I used to be. I went from drinking 5-7 cups of coffee a day to just one. All I can say is it works for me. It's funny on how I see my belly breathing without even thinking about it. :).
Each morning I would wake up dizzy and stressed I felt difficulty in breathing but after seeing your video and tips I managed to breathe properly. Feeling a tremendous difference
I was going great with her until she started the exercise. It went too fast and I couldn't follow it. I agree with what she is saying, but the fast run through on the exercise actually raised my anxiety and I began to breathe shallow again!
My thoughts exactly! If she wanted to help slow everyone down and breathe correctly, she needed to count slowly. For example, when someone is experiencing anxiety and difficulty breathing, you don't make them breathe at YOUR pace. You count to THIER pace and gradually help them slow down. She may be an expert, but presentation needs some work...
I've seen the first two types of breathing before, but not the 3rd, I must say it really did feel great and I felt a noticeable calm after. Video is nicely done and calming to watch as well, thank you!
Before it I did belly breathing but I had a doubt was I doing it exactly or not? She solved my doubt and I am sure that I will do it throughout the day and make me more oxygenated. Thanks for guideline,ma'am.
I was taught this from a choir teacher in primary school, 3 singing coaches in career and an opera singer. I also deep cycle breath (belly breath) just as illustrated on every rep when I'm working out in the gym. Out on the initial lift and in when putting the weight down. Maximising the oxygen intake on the most difficult part of the lift, which is putting it down. I've found it difficult to show people how to do this. My singing teachers said push down when inhaling and singing higher pitched notes. It can be difficult at first but has many benefits. It is awesome!
This is great, it demonstrates why as a yoga instructor, Pranayama instruction is highly revered and necessitates proper instruction at risk of incredible disease if done otherwise.
Outstanding? Far from it. Quite worthless in fact. If you understood it, could you explain it to me? I understood nothing. Am I supposed to put my hands on my stomach and lean forward everytime I breathe from now on?
Best way to learn how to do it correctly ....exhale all the air first until you can anymore ....next you will inhale correctly...and you will see your belly rise first...incredible that nobody say this.
What a fantastic tutorial for belly breathing! I say belly because I work with young children and until they realize the shoulders are NOT involved in breathing, diaphragm is too big a word! Thank you!!
I’ve doing lots of different types of breathing over the past couple of years. This technique is very familiar as well as the pattern. Great for relaxing. Kundalini yoga has some wonderful breath exercises. She mentioned a couple: kabalabati and alternate nostril breathing.

I teach wheelchair Tai Ji and use many of Dr Belisa's technics (which can be found her book) with my students. It definitely enriches my practice. Breathing is indeed a natural mechanism. Stress of any kind reduces our breath to shaĺlow movements.
I love lying down, taking up to 30 big breaths, fully in then let go. From here I finally breathe out and dont breath in again for upto 2 minutes.
The breath is like a deep meditation

I really believe in the benefits

2. Turn my blood more alkaline
3. Helps me relax
4. Helps me climbs those hills better on my road bike
5 Improves other functions in my body that I'm not aware of.
6. Takes me from a stresses state 'breath hold" to a deep rest/digest state in seconds
How could you do that "don't breath in again for up to 2 minutes", that's long time.
