A Thousand moons Ago - Johannes Bornlöf
My name is Michael Petherick and I live with my family at Chateau de la Basmaignee in north west France.
My brother and his fiancé bought this building with some inheritance money three years ago and we are slowly restoring it to live in, and run as a business.
It’s always a financial struggle to keep the place going and we have to work hard to keep our heads above water, but we love it and wouldn’t have It any other way.
When they knew that they were buying the château, my brother asked me if I would like to move over and take part in their new adventure... so I packed my bags, gave up my life in England and moved here to help bring this place back to life.
We do all the renovations ourselves including construction, decorating and collecting antique furniture that we buy cheaply to restore. Our goal is to fill the château with beauty and life as it once was.
I have a passion for history, art and all things old.
These videos are a series of stories about my life and experiences living in a French castle
I’ll be showing all aspects of life here, from renovation and DIY, to crafts and baking, art, daily life and a bit of fun thrown in for good measure. There’s much more to see and our journey is still just beginning.

I could see Michael doing a series inviting us into his cottage and sitting down with a cup of tea, then reading a children’s book. I picture it being like a cross between Mr. Rogers and a Bob Ross tutorial with happy little trees!
Children really need that kind of gentle and innocent entertainment!

@@laurenhayward6183 I was never a good student, I stand corrected. I should have instead said "I am glad to see you are back"...I always mess up things with apostrophy's and always get the rule about what comes after "v" in words "I" or "e" after "v" like in the word "recieve" A good number of us whom have English as our native tongue mess up a lot more than even I do after reaching 60 years of age. I was an even poorer student in the German, Spanish and Hungarian classes I took over the years.
That being hopefully now put to rest I still want to say how much I enjoy the channel and look forward to new episodes.

@@RR98guy just try remember that your is used to show possession, as in "Is that your car?". Also, the apostrophe in "you're" is being used to replace in letter. In this case, it is the "a" from the word "are". Something else, if you are interested, Is the saying "i before e except after c". Of course, as happens so often in English, there are exceptions. And to think the milk we grew up on is against the law in most states. Its so healthy for humans to consume raw milk. I can get it from a certain religious group but its 45 min away. Don't drive that far too often for milk but when I do. Yummy in tea

    • @TheAccidentalViking
      @TheAccidentalViking 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

@@chasethecat3839 No. Salmonella, E. coli, Listeria, Campylobacter are not healthy for humans. Fresh milk does not equal raw milk or vice versa. Because milk is transported long distances in the US (and many other countries) due to the lack of family farms and so many factory farming corporations and the fact that cows are animals and poop and so do the humans that handle the cows, pasteurization is essential. There are ways to consume fresh milk and be safe about it, like your farm 45 minutes away, and like how they make sushi from raw chicken in Japan, but it means certain precautions. Most people aren't aware of the pathogens that do a great deal of harm. I didn't particularly like the UHT tetra packed milk in France, but it's what they do to minimise wastage. I wouldn't eat a soft cooked egg in France, but I would in Norway. I did some writing about meat and other agricultural products in Europe. It is all in the EU, but because of the climates and pathogen spreads, there is a difference in veterinary medicine use and procedures used in processing. Put it this way, I wouldn't drink raw milk unless I got it in my bottle the way Michael got his, very fresh, and observed the milking procedures in the shed myself.

The snow covered landscape was just heavenly. Thanks for the taking us along to see the milking of the cows, such gentle and sensitive creatures they are. I sure would love some fresh milk in my daily cup of tea.

My grandma loved cows, she grew up on a dairy farm near San Diego, California. I don't know anything about cows, but it's interesting to see how smart they are. They enjoy the music, that's funny!

This is one of the best videos I have seen in this series,
    but they are all great.
The Snow at the end is so Beautiful, and all the Animals
walking around in it is a really Wonderful scene.
Love the Cows. I am glad the Farmer treats them so well.
    They give us so much.
Thank you for an enjoyable Video.

If I could hit the like button a thousand times, I’d do it. I grew up in Wisconsin and while we grew crops to sell our neighbors and good friends were dairy farmers. We would walk to there farm and get fresh milk and my Dad would help them from time to time. Your video brought back so many good memories. It’s funny you mentioned the kids driving tractors. I was 6 years old when I started driving in the cornfields. It was a huge John Deere tractor and I thought I had hit the lottery. Your neighbors seem like they are really sweet. Thanks for sharing!

My boyfriend has a house on a fiel out of the city and his family rents out the field part to a neighbor that has cows, I always play music for them outside with a little speaker my boyfriend got me for my birthday a few years ago and they absolutely love it, cows love music, there are a ton of videos on YT of people playing live music in fields until they are surrounded by cows. I love cows, the are so pure ♥️

Enjoyed the vlog. I grew up on a farm, started out milking by hand until we purchased milking machines. Had a hand pump in the kitchen for water and an out house. My dad purchased an old farmstead, did a lot of updating! I married the farmer (class mate) down the road, we milked over 100 cows, fun times. They had a 3 generation farm, raised three children, son farms with us. The girls had city kids come to the farm (farm/city) learning about the farm and animals. Also had people from all over the world come to the farm to learn. My high light was to spend time with Julia Child! Still on the farm, however, cows gone, now crops. Ending of vlog, the snow looks like Minnesota without our minus 30 farinheit temperature! Lovely memories. Thank you.
