john after you glued and hot stapled the inside . on the outside you could have used superglue and bicarb soda on the outside along the crack its not half as messy as the fiberglass and it sets like stone instantly and its easier to sand down.
Great to hear you are getting started and wish you well with it. I use citric acid, I find this works even on rough tanks. I would only leave it in for a couple of days as it can eventually attack the lining, sometimes I give two or three goes to get it clean. I have done this for years and had really good success. Once dry I coat the tank with WD40 or fogging oil just to protect it until fuel is used.
