I remember watching this in the theater when it came out such a great movie with a great cast. I've always thought that the reason this generated so many sequels and alien versus predator battles and all the other things is just because there's always room for another monster type movie. @@texan-american200 I watched PREY. I thought it was a technically well made movie. It certainly was better than all the other sequels and spin-offs. However, I think it contained enough cringe and questionable scenes that I am slow to recommend it and I do not consider it to be a rewatchable film (rewatchability is a major criteria for me). I thought Naru was a bit too much of a girl boss. She wasn't a full Mary Sue, but there were moments where this trope crept in. I also think the show wrote itself into a corner because of the famous pistol scene. How does that pistol get into the possession of the Predator clan that gives it to Harrigan? I'm sure there is a narrative way to make that happen, but I hazard to guess that it will come across as contrived and convoluted (very similar to how I felt about Alien: Romulus).

And, dropping an Easter egg (and I suppose future teaser) with the xenomorph skull in the trophy wall of the predator ship at the end. Dan, this was a terrific video. This is another one of those movies where a behind the scenes reveal like yours could go for over an hour if you let it. One thing though. You might be interested to know that the handheld mini-gun "Old Painless" was rented from the now defunct Stembridge Gun Rentals and was later used by Arnold himself in Terminator 2. It was an actual M134 minigun firing 7.62mm NATO ammo. It's normal firing rate of 6000 rounds per minute was slowed down to 1250 rpm because otherwise the frame rate of the filming just showed the barrels as being a stationary blur (also to allow Ventura to hold it while firing). It was strictly Hollywood though because even at 1250 rpm the ammo backpack would only hold even rounds for 4-6 seconds of fire. That and it required the power from several 12 volt car batteries to run. The power cable ran down the actor's pants leg to off screen. After Stembridge liquidated its inventory the whereabouts of Old Painless are unknown (at least to me).

This movie has some practical effects that hold up today. Outstanding. I can watch this at any point in the film to finish. The creature was really freakin scary. The original is the jam. Great job!!! Thank you. Wow a lot of surprises on this! Again, great job!

For some reason, I thought it was Vietnam war film before I saw it .
I talked a friend into seeing it with me and he was upset it was not a straight war movie

Like you, I saw it when it was originally released in theaters. Loved it then and still like watching it a couple of times a year to this day. Great film!

This was a good one. You were spot on about it being made better than they would have made it today! Good details that I wasn't aware of. I like how all the films you cover were available in Betamax. Thanks again, Dan. Disney... :/

You've got a lot of movies/tv shows to get through! You mentioned License to Kill with Timothy Dalton, second best Bond after Connery. Unrelated but in your titles, I believe the Beatles started to fall apart after the death of Brian Epstein, who gave them incentive to work together while he was alive.

Another great video Dan! Predator in my book is the greatest scfi film of all time. I would love if you did a video on a slightly similar movie from 1980 called "Without Warning" where an alien hunter terrorizes a small rural community.

I agree with you when I first went to see it, sat down. started watching a standard 80s action flick when out of no where it took a hard right into a sci-fi monster film. And the effects were really great so much nicer than much of what e see these days. Thanks for covering one of my most favorite films.

If the studios wanted to make more money (or any money at all these days), they should give up making movies and just re-release the hit films from the past. I'd pay to watch Wrath of Khan in the theater.
