A Bulgarian orthodox here. Fun fact: The Chi-Rho symbol can be found in one of our oldest and greatest khan's thomb, Khan Kubrat who ruled Bulgaria between 632-665, showing how old our Christian history is. 🇧🇬❤️☦️
Hey, thanks! That's a sharp ear you have! I find it helps to distinguish the letter with the sound easier. However, it seems more prevalent to do that with Koine. The modern is almost universally an "oh" sound rather than an "ah"
One of the earliest symbols of Christianity along with the fish, the sheep etc. Actually it’s not pronounced as Kai-ro because in Hellenic🇬🇷 this letter *χ* doesn’t make a “k” sound but a “h” sound as in hello. It’s a bit thicker than this but it has nothing to do with k. English speaking are confused with some of our letters because of the influence of the Romans and the Latin alphabet BUT the Hellenic alphabet is actually older than the Latin and Latins was based in the Hellenic alphabet. B is v in Hellenic P is r in Hellenic U is e in Hellenic etc… anyway. As you said X P are the two first letters of the term Xristòs (Χριστός) which means Christ from the term Chrism > chrisma > chrismation. Christ is the Son of God, the Chosen One. He is the God not a creation of God! That’s the meaning. The Christian faith was based and spread with the usage of the Hellenic language. The New Testament, the Gospels, the Revelation… were written in Hellenic. Christ Himself, the Apostles, even the Jews and the Romans of the era knew Hellenic. That’s why we have so many sayings and symbols in Hellenic and the Holy Tradition of the Orthodox Church is synonymous with the Hellenic language. Christ said: “I am the Alpha and the Omega”. The beginning and the end of everything. We can also see these two symbols as a new one: the term ΑΡΧΩ. Άρχω / àrcho is a verb meaning I’m ruling. And άρχων / àrchon (noun) is the ruler. So, Christ is the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. The Ruler of everything!
I was hoping you were going to Constantine’s battle at the Milvian bridgea against Maxentius (sp?). It was the symbol Christ gave to him in a dream to put on his armor before engaging in battle. It was around 325 A.D. or so.
The Vatican is a schismatic heretical blasphemous organisation! They are not true Christians l, they are heretics! They don’t know about Christian symbolism and terminology because they adopted all of them from us, Orthodox Byzantines and then they started to add their heretical beliefs into our doctrine!
If someone wanted to, they wouldn't be wrong. But the Chi-Rho predates Ambrose. In fact, we would argue that the symbol is more often referred to as the Chi-Rho, rather than Chrismon of Ambrose. Though that may be a Catholic-Protestant difference.
Not sure where you've gotten that from. Evidence would be good. The Egyptians had something that resembled it, but the evidence is scarce that Christianity took it and redeemed it.
Hey Jonas! Scripture actually refers to both God the Father and God the Son as the alpha and omega. Revelation 1:8 refers to God the Father. Revelation 22:13 is Jesus talking and refers to himself as the alpha and omega. Really, it is just another confirmation of the uniqueness of the Trinitarian theology.
The X is the mutable cross, pisces, virgo, gimini, sagittarius. The P is the symbol for the the masculine axis of the fixed cross, alpha/omega = aries and libra. It's the symbol of the 'christos, chrim- the anoited one - the Christ of the mystery schools which is man is god. Don't fall for this BS because it has nothing to with the Christ of the Christians. All esoteric and allegory.
@@tigernature7020 I appreciate your comment but it's historical nonsense. This symbol goes back to very early in the church and any suggestion that it is rooted in the paganism that you described sounds more like revisionism than it does reality of its historical roots in Christianity.
Sorry you are completely wrong look at the mosaics from the Byzantine church south of Tel Aviv it is clearly a fish hook and has nothing to do with AP or an X and the alpha and omega are actually that interpretations of persimmons which are on each side it is actually a representation of the people who lived on the sea of Galilee and fished and group persimmons the styling of the persimmon has three parts making it resemble the omega later they added the alpha for no particular reason in the original old was thanks the top of the piece clearly seen with a rope going through it this is actually a three-dimensional depiction of a fish hook with four prongs but squash down into two dimensions and this early symbology of the fish hook goes back to st Peter's and ancient Christian carvings so you learn something today don't believe everything that these so-called scholars teach you because mostly they are clueless
I'm not sure I understand your paragraph. Are you confusing this with the ichthys? If scholars are not trustworthy, where are you getting your information from? The information I presented represents scholarship from original sources. The alpha and the omega were not added "for no particular reason"" as you state. Rather, the alpha and omega are Christ's descriptions of himself in Revelation 21 and 22 to say that he is the first and the last...hardly some random addition. Maybe there is some visual of a fish somewhere in some church, but what does that have to do with the Chi-Rho symbol? It sounds like a non-sequitur argument. Is it not possible that the early church had multiple symbols for the faith? The Chi-Rho and the Ichthys for example?

I am very happy to hear you pronounce the omicron correctly. So many people pronounce it like an omega.

Thanks for the video. I bought a Chi-Rho pendant at the Vatican and i was told it was a peace cross.

A lot of people that work in gift shops are not very knowledgeable.
Would it not be correct to call the entire symbol the Chrismon of St Ambrose?
If someone wanted to, they wouldn't be wrong. But the Chi-Rho predates Ambrose. In fact, we would argue that the symbol is more often referred to as the Chi-Rho, rather than Chrismon of Ambrose. Though that may be a Catholic-Protestant difference.

The chi-rho started on Babylon. It has occultic roots.

There is nothing just for fun in Christianity. Think better
