How to Use Object Pronouns in Brazilian Portuguese (part III) | When to Use LHE and LHES

- Some lessons ago, you learned about the use of OBJECT PRONOUNS - PRONOMES OBLÍQUOS - in Portuguese. In today's lesson you will learn that when a verb is associated (or requires) the preposition 'a' (='para'), you should use other pronouns (ME - LHE - NOS - LHES). In today's lesson you learn:
- when the pronouns 'ME', 'LHE', 'NOS', and 'LHES'
- a super pronunciation tip that will help you say 'LHE' accurately
- some colloquial alternatives to 'LHE' and 'LHES'
This is a basic Portuguese lesson for beginners. After watching this lesson, I suggest you watch parts I and III for more Portuguese grammar lessons.

In Brazil, most people rarely use 'lhe' - 'lhes' when speaking; however, you will find those pronouns in formal writing 😊
@@PlainPortuguesethat's true for most of the countries, but people still use lhe(a)(s) in some parts of Brazil, including most states in the Northeast. It has some "almost formal" usage, as when parents talk to children, among employer and employee, etc. Still useful to know those pronouns, great video.

As formas no gerúndio aceitam as três formas de colocação pronominal.
'I am asking you a question'
Opção 1. Eu lhe estou fazendo uma pergunta. (formal)
Opção 2. Eu estou lhe fazendo uma pergunta (formal - mais comum no Brasil)
Opção 3. Eu estou fazendo-lhe uma pergunta (formal)
Opção 4. Eu estou fazendo uma pergunta para você (coloquial*)
'She is telling them a story'
Opção 1. Ela lhes está contando uma história (formal)
Opção 2. Ela está lhes contando uma história (formal - mais comum no Brasil)
Opção 3. Ela está contando-lhes uma história (formal)
Opção 4. Ela está contando uma história para eles (coloquial*)😊

I would say that it is always important to look at the wider context.
