I just wanted to say thank you and Wanda so much for sharing with us and teaching us. You'll never know how much you mean to me and countless others. I always keep you two in my prayers, that God will continue to bless you abundantly and keep you in good health, as you're such a blessing to us.
I just found y'all here. THANK you for reminding me how my grandpaw grew his slips. I kinda remembered it but you are exactly like him..I can't wait to watch all your videos. In North Carolina here.
I was a bit late getting mine planted this year here in northeast Texas. I'm going to harvest tomorrow. Have felt around in the beds and seem to have some nice tubers. Hope mine look as beautiful as yours. I agree with you about using the runts for slips and planting them whole. That's the way I do it and have been very happy with the results. I let them sprout a little before planting and so far, all has worked well and it's a whole lot easier than chitting them or growing slips off big tubers, then separating and all that first.
When I watch you all at work. I feel so proud... Some people, at times will look at this work, as fantasy.. And, will have no clue, of the hard, back breaking work, they are watching.. But, it is really worth it.. I speak from experience. We haven't acres to work with.. But, thank the Almighty God. for what we do have... And, at the end of a hard day... it feels so good, when you are working like this, For Yourselves. Thank you for sharing.
GOD IS SO GOOD, Thank you LORD for working with deep south homestead. He is a awesome GOD, I pray for ya'll every night, and I see that He is blessing ya'll, I can't stop thanking Him. Ya'll have made my day, thank you for showing this video, and have a great day. And happy anniversary to ya'll, GOD is so GOOD!
I learned how to can sweet potatoes from your video last year. I'll be getting your grow guide from etsy so I can try my hand at growing my own next year! Thanks for the great, informative videos! You two are great!
Can't believe I'm just seeing this video Danny and Wanda! Been following your channel for a while now and subscribed but today is my first time seeing this video. It takes me back to the days when I a kid growing up on my parents farm. You two really had a bumper crop of sweet potatoes that year! Wishing you a harvest this year just as bountiful !
We eat sweet potato tops in The Philippines. We pick the new tips and cook them like spinach. We pick them year around. . Delicious. God beds America. Great video.
They look so healthy and delicious ! I don't have the space to store fresh ones. but didn't think about canning some...great idea ! Thank you for the link to the playlist .
Such a blessing! One row? Wow! You and Wanda make a great team. There is nothing better tasting than a home grown sweet potato!! Well. maybe a tomato ties! HA
You are correct about Beauregards in the north (RI, zone 6.) Georgia Jets also do very well. Got over 300 lbs one year from just 100 slips. Both are 90-100 days. I've also done Dianes which by far taste the best, but they don't yield as much.
Praise God! I'm so happy for you all. I love sweet potatoes too. It was so funny to see those pigs running after that tractor. They knew Wanda had something good for them. Happy Anniversary!!!
I'm finding I can't take my eyes of the screen and wondering what about over there a bit more, Danny look over there!!! Lol. Watching someone dig potatoes is kinda like watching your chickens, ya just can't stop. 💙💜💚
JM at The Nuthouse Iknow i told Wanda when i was editing that theres just something about watching someone dig potatoes. You are waiting to see what you get next. Thanks JEN
I am growing them in Idaho also. Last year was my first year and I'm just learning so I really thank you for the information. My husband grew them about 20 yrs ago, but never grew them again. We knew nothing about curing them. I believe that knowledge will make them taste much better. We just thought we didn't have the southern soil, but now I think it is because they lacked curing.
I live up here in Maine and we grow sweat potatos they grow good up here like you said though it does depend of verity and we grow them right in the ground! love the videos guys keep up the great work!!!
I LOVE the way you plant your slips, Danny! I have done it on my hands and knees for years but no more. I also had huge crop and huge sw potatoes two years ago. Cook them up in a big batch THEN spread the mashed sw pots on your dehydrator trays. When dry, grind into a powder and vacuum seal in glass canning jars. Rehydrate anytime (mine are 2 years old) by bringing an equal part of water to a boil and slowly stirring in the sw potato "powder" I got 250 lbs into 4 half-gallon jars!!!
Thank you so much for sharing this with us. I hear the little bannie rooster crowing in the background. So cute! I have one that sounds just like that.
Sweet potatoes look awesome !! I love them anyway you can fix them!!!! They are so good for you!!! The Lord has richly blessed you and Wanda.... Love your videos!!!
WOWEEEE AMAZING YOU TWO.SOO HAPPY FOR YOU.I AM IN AWE.GOD HAS BLESSED YOU WELL THIS SEASON.I NOW KNOW EVERYTHING ABOUT SWEET POTATOES.I WILL GET YOUR MANUAL ANY DAY NOW.THANK YOU MY FRIEND.♡♡♡♡♡♡♡.........
that's awesome ya'll, I hope I can grow sweet potato's half as good as ya'll can one day, but I still got a lot of practicing and learning to do, but ya'll make it a lot easier to learn how to. thank ya'll for that
I'm a little green with envy on the sand in your soil...I just dug one row of our potatoes in our hard clay...cause of the polio leg I do it from my knees all arms...lol...got to do what ya got to do...lol Hope our sweet potatoes do that well.
You certainly were blessed thats for sure. Have you tried dehydrating the sweet potatoes & then making the dehydrated potatoes into sweet potato powder? I know I have done that with squash/pumpkins & even bananas! XOXO Happy Homesteading you two!!! BTW ~HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!!~ Heres to your wonderfully blessed 4 years of being with each other!!! And heres to many more to come XOXO
I love your videos. I.live in upstate ny and I only have a little area to grow my.potatoes bit following your steps my harvest has been phenomenal. Thank you so much
wow those are some good size potatos that new tractor is coming in so handy for you all i am so glad you were able to get it. happy harvest and GOD BLESS
Danny needs high rubber boots, bet he had his shoes fulla dirt when he was done. I am so impressed with your sweet tater harvest! I have said it before , but, ain't it just like digging for treasure? A bountiful harvest indeed. I planted the Beauregard cause I'm up north in PA. They are slow, but they seem to be doing well. God bless.
Great haul there Danny and Wanda! Can't wait to see the rest of them! We've got 34 Beauregards working now, hope our yield is half that good! I'm with you on the genetics thing.....I firmly believe that everything that comes from that plant has pretty much the same genetic makeup, I think the reasons some are bigger, rounder, longer , skinnier or whatever has more to do with growing conditions underground for that particular tuber.
Amazing harvest! This year is my second time trying to grow sweet potatoes. I bought slips from a local farm store and planted some in our field and a couple in containers. The ones in containers are doing great. The ones in the field were mowed down by the deer. I bought your manual after planting and hoping that next year will be better.
What a beautiful setup you have there! My favorite sweet potatoes we have ever bought come out of Mississippi, just not the same anywhere else. We are growing for the first time this year and can't wait to harvest. Not sure what to look for when they are ready to dig, but we have happy vines and a few flowers. We're zone 7 so it may be some time yet. Tons of rain that I thought would be bad for them, but your video has me more hopeful about what we might get. Thank you for sharing.
Just ordered your sweet potato book, am living in Phoenix AZ, have some in pots and some in the ground. will let you know how I do. Thank you so much. Best always.
I'm growing sweet potatoes for the first time. Thank you both for the video. Couldn't get out for organic sweet potatoes so I ordered Beauregards from Gurney's. God bless you.
Delicious harvest! It's like digging for treasure. How do you know they are ready for harvesting? How do you cure them (full sun? Do you have to turn them?)? I see the tractor is earning it's keep. Wanda is getting very proficient on it.
Working in the garden, listening to your videos. Love to you and Wanda!
You truly are the sweet potato king and will share your video for you to 2 of my pages, enjoy your harvest.
Candied yams and fresh smoked ham just in time for the holidays. Candied them with fresh raw honey. Yum-yum they are a meal a piece there.
