Dude, I just finished building a 13 card rig with the Asus B250 mining expert and a mix of 1660 Supers and 1660 TIs. It's a beast for having such small cards. Rock solid stable. Running at 385 Mhash, at 1,100 watts.
Just building my first rig. Amazon managed to lose my RAM twice now. I have everything here except RAM and can't find locally either. Congrats on the rig. Post up a video man. Those older cards are more affordable, and STILL making good hash-rate. Just make sure you get 8gb or higher RAM. I've got six cards so far. Looking for bargains.
@@WallaceDunn wow, crazy bad luck with Amazon. Hope it works out. Yeah, the older cards like 1070s and 1070tis are still decent. Got about 20 of them and they have been mining since 2018. Other than a few fan replacements, all still run strong.
@@user-qi9be4lv7l what temps are they running on? How can they survive so long
@@sternfaust most run between 60 to 70 C. During the summer, the cards can reach around 70 to 73 C (living in Florida with HOT summers). Gaming does more damage to a graphics card than mining does. When you game the gpu gets hot then cold when your done. That hot and cold temp happening every time you game does the wearing down on the card. When you mine with the cards, it's at a set temperature for a long period of time. Also, running at a reduced power setting -35% to -50% less in wattage. So it's not like the card is working really hard. Mining cards can last a fair bit longer than cards used for gaming.
@@user-qi9be4lv7l Thanks for your explanation!

Great build, thanks for doing this! To stop the motherboard from restarting you should add a monitor (on VGA plug). I had the same surprise when trying to run the rig without the monitor attached to motherboard.
You should do a timelapse of the build using an overhead tripod, would make for a super cool scene

A possible solution to the boot cycling issue:
Check the bios battery is still good, swap another known working bios battery into that motherboard, and see if it still boot cycles.
This is a common issue with old motherboards especially if they have been sitting for a while.
That board you were having trouble with, you should always make sure you have the latest and great BIOS installed and before you plug all cards in, do a basic installation and use it to make sure it's stable. Then power it down to add in all the other cards.

Awesome stuff but there's no way that us regular civilians can get those gpus at those prices atm lol
I was wondering why my math wasn't adding up.

If you have a card you can mine with at this moment, be it from a gaming rig or a simple home-solution-family computer i suggest you start mining already with the 1 or 2 cards you might have. and then when the gpu prices are right for you.. go for it.
unless you got some GPUs on hand/stashed, us regular civilians are NOT getting into crypto-mining...unless you got money to blow to begin with
@Robb CoochiesIayer i mean.. theoretically you can but its just not profitable on paper with any 4GB or less card, unless you run multiple 4GB cards at the same time(mining rig)

Nicehash is the answer

@@ducatornadonikita a mining pool obviously
So basically to make it simple, when you run this "specific" software, it connects to the "pool" for pooling as in "sharing" your hardware resources for "validating transactions" made by others, and split the reward equally (b/c there will be a lot of people mining in the same network) and you split it according to the amount of work you or your hardware contributed. Before running the software, you tell it your wallet address, that's how it knows where to send your revenue.

All good...except one thing, you need to triple the price of that rig, there's no way you can build it for that price. Then, your break-even and profitability dates would be pushed a few months, thus increasing the risk factor to a level that some might consider too high.

@@somerandomguyyeah well, I have a little bit over 1ETH in my portfolio although I converted just shy of 1000$ to FIAT at different moments. 7 months of electricity would cost around 410$ where I live. To the haters saying $2500 isn't realistic. My first rig cost $2700 and that's with a 5700xt, 2x 5600xt, 2x 1070ti and 1x 580. $2200 for the video cards, around $500 for the guts. It's entirely doable, but you have to be super lucky on finding cheap video cards. My second rig will have 5x 1660 super and 1x 1070ti and will cost about $2500 - $2000 for the cards, $500 for the guts. Again - entirely doable. The 3060 is coming out next week, this will be the best chance to get an excellent card at retail price.
Both built within the last 2 weeks.

Power consumption is also in Watts but is the electrical power absorbed and is different from TDP.
Most people confuse both of them because it is the same unit.
I'm gonna give you some real figures here of what I've done. I have bought a RTX 3090 for 1919€ and a PC (because RTX 3070's were otherwise unavailable and I also got a nice Ryzen 7 5800x in it, so it was worth) for 1975€. Then I bought another 2 XFX 580gb for 717€ in total. So for the GPU's it is all together 4611€ which in freedom currency is $5600.

Hi looks like a great rig, thanks for sharing. As far as PSU goes, how come you are not using server PSU to reduce the cost? I remember you used it, in one of your previous builds. I mean technically server PSU's are a lot cheaper than $200 PSU you are using there!
That is a sweet build, the 1660 doesn't get enough love for how efficient they can be. I thought you were crazy at first for the power supply set up but it really doesn't draw much for power.
gigabyte motherboards bios like to get corrupted sometimes when you don't update the bios there for it gets stuck on boot loop. it helps if it has a second boot bios if not the Cmos method works as well
so, just to be sure, each end of every cable is split in 2, then, 1 of the slits goes into the gpu, and one in the riser. do you try to avoid powering the risers with molex/sata ? sata is max 50 i think, molex could be ok ! tyvm, very informative ! and your cable management is on point !!

Hi there the failed motherboard in this video maybe needs a new battery. The same thing happened to me and just bought a new CR2032 and worked until now.

Nah it available locally you don't need to order it online
Excellent video thanks! You talk a little fast but that's ok, that's rewind is for:-) As a complete newbie I would have liked to see a cable by cable assembly but I imagine you have other videos that show that. Again, thanks for taking the time to make a video!
No more GPUs on the market for the moment, we will have to wait to make new rigs...
its full with fully assembled rigs. from 16 Series up to RTX 3090.
Prebuild.
That's pretty good tour looking at 480 a month so around 5-6 months then profit time 🤲🤲
That gpu is 500€ on Amazon wtf!?
I can’t wait to be able to build a rig, working out budget depending on my returns from SHIB :)
The constant rebooting sounds like a ram issue.
was it psu?
