I used to have one of those Beretta 22lr tip up barrel, I believe it was called the bobcat. It was one of my favorite mouse guns. I bought it used for a hundred dollars at a local gun shop. Beautiful little gun. I might have to pick up this TUC-22. There's something about these tip-up barrel mouse guns I love, they're just fun to shoot and unique.

A word about Taurus customer service: my PT22 keyholed with every type of ammo. Taurus said they would have a look at it if I paid $50 shipping to send it to Brazil. I still have the pistol as a paperweight. I haven't bought a Taurus since then.
That's really weird considering the PT22 was not made in Brazil, but in Miami, Florida. That said, Taurus' current CEO has really revamped their customer service and now everything is handled in Bainbridge, Georgia. Miami's customer service was, well, lacking.
I screwed up a Taurus revolver with some dumb assed gunsmithing. Sure I had to pay for shipping it back, but they fixed it in a week, no questions asked.
Never again! My pt22 poly has been nothing been trouble, it’s been in transit back and forth for warranty work in its box more than it’s been in my pocket or the range. Do yourselves a favor and get a beretta, my bobcat and tomcat never misses a beat.
I owned the Taurus Poly-22 for a while. This redesigned pistol seems to suffer the same problems my Poly-22 had. I sold mine in short order. If you're looking for a reliable little pocket pistol get a Ruger LCP II in 380.
If the TUC 22 has a failure to feed on Aguila Interceptor they are in real trouble! The hottest 22 ammo is 40 grain Aguila Interceptor and CCI Velocitor, then 32 grain CCI Stingers and maybe Federal Punch. Also, the long DAO trigger and marginal sights will limit accuracy. I'd speculate that this can't compare with a Ruger LCP II 22 with an Armalser green laser shooting Stingers. Better sights, better trigger, higher round count (especially with a Tandoncross Wingman + 4 4 round mag extension,) laser accuracy and quick target acquisition to about 20 yards, easier racking, faster magazine changes and slightly better reliability. If you want a nice shooting 22, size up a bit to the Bersa Thunder 22, or a bit more to the Taurus TX22 Compact!
glad to see any review on the 22 Taurus. i have for good or bad always liked the under dogs of pistols i carry a old PT -22, glad i have never needed to use in defense situation. against Taurus recommendations i load the first 3 rounds CCI stinger and the rest CCI minimag. i feel that this will work when the SHTF. stingers are noticeably more powerful and cycle perfect in the pistol. only questionable thing about my choice is whether the ammo is always reliable i feel CCI is very good. next is how to clear a malfunction if needed, no extractor is a possible issue but the spring loaded tip up barrel will almost always eject the cartridge's.. the slide as you mention is very hard to pull on the PT-22 so i put grip tape/like sandpaper on the sides. bottom line for me is if im going to carry this pistol the first shot must be spot on.
This might be on my list along with an LCP. People talk about magazine capacity but if you're in a situation where you need to empty a magazine you've probably got much bigger problems
Does the new mag fit older pt22 models? Sorry if this was covered in the video. Used factory magazines for the older metal frame pt22 are anywhere from 40-$60US each. The old magazines are very delicate if they are full of ammunition but not being stored in the firearm, especially sensitive to issues with the spot weld at the top of the rear of the mag. A new and updated magazine that was cross compatible would sell well. There is only one aftermarket magazine available, and it doesnt include the baseplate extension that I feel is almost a necessity to remove the magazine if something prevents it from popping out on its own.
Certainly a great idea as a pocket gun! And Taurus's quantity has been improving a lot! It's sad that Taurus is in favor of civilian disarmament in its home country, Brazil!
Maybe I'm not familiar with a "tip up" pistol design, but what happens if you get a "typical 22 dud round"? Can you tap rack and bang on a tip up barrel gun? If I can't actually manipulate the side on this 22 Tuc, then I'll just keep my LCP II 22lr with it's 10+1 capacity and decent trigger.
Personally for something this small I would chose the Beretta 3032, since 32 ACP is more reliable and powerful while having low recoil/small form factor, plus a couple of companies now load decent 32 ACP defensive loads.
Any idea if the PT-22 Poly grip is shorter than the grip on TUC-22? I think the PT-22 Poly has a longer grip than the 21a already, but TUC-22 grip looks like it's noticeably longer than on the PT-22 Poly. It looks almost exactly like it besides cosmetic differences, but it just seems to have an abnormally longer grip otherwise. I wonder if the PT-22 Poly magazines will work in it.
Not being double stack 25acp is a big disappointment. I wish one of these companies would make a doublestack or staggered 25acp or 32acp pocket gun. Something the size of my lcp max but smaller caliber higher capacity.
Yup...we've carried .22lr, .22wmr, and right now, .25acp, and we would have serious interest in a .32acp (the keltec p32 is hard to find these days)...the Beretta 3032 doesn't interest us (too heavy), and the Seacamp is similarly afflicted...as seniors, size and weight have become significant factors...
@JohnPublic-dk7zd I have a p32 can't get over the lack of sights on it. I have a beretta 21a in 25acp it's to heavy and also lacks proper sights. I really enjoy the lcp max but it's seriously snappy in 380acp. I have the lcp II in 22lr it's prone to light strikes. My smith and wesson 351c is probably my preferred pocket pistol... but let's be honest a j frame is not ideal for a pocket pistol. Most of the time I just end up carrying a 642 inside the waistband.
25acp is a terribly unreliable caliber. the caliber hates every firearm made for it. and it is terribly antiquated. it wouldn't sell well enough to vindicate production cost.
Also more powerful, though not by too much I suppose. A .32 ACP hits about like a .22 out of a full sized rifle or a .22 magnum out of a pistol. Even so, a little bit of extra power helps if you're trying to defend yourself.
21a in 22 & 25 are for playing at the range. As is the 950 Jetfire. Fun to play with, but I wouldn’t carry and rely on. Very ammo-finicky. The 3032 TomCat is a much more reliable pistol. No. The method of clearing a misfired cartridge would be to tip up the barrel and remove the bad cartridge. Most of the time it should just fall out easily. Very important to keep the chamber clean on any of these type of pistols whether Taurus or Beretta.
No. I have the 30sc Shield Plus. The 30sc round is as long as a 9mm round, so it's best suited for any existing 9mm guns on the market.
