  • From July 24, 2022: I walked my fishing gear down to the shore of the Chesapeake Bay this evening in hopes to see if something would bite. Using a 10ft surf rod, I was able to catch a few fish and was encouraged to return to try again.

    00:13 - Opening Credits
00:40 - Plan for the evening

07:54 - Tip No. 3 - Keep your gear out of the salt water
Tackle used: 10ft surf rod by Eagle Claw with a size 5000 spinning reel by Ozark Trail with 20# monofilament line and a high - low rig and two ounce bank sinker. Bait used: FISHBITES - bloodworm alternative
Conditions: air temperatures low to mid 80's, no breeze to speak of, incoming tide, no waves

Yea this year the rock fish from shore was not the best. My thoughts on that. the rocks were eating the young crab due to the lack of menhaden in the bay seeing VA used nets and over fishes them entering the bay. No food for the rock fish they then eat the young blue crab = low crab counts.

Actually that's a pretty good take. The times I have been out on the bay, I've seen bait fish, but nothing really crashing them as in the past. Being back in MD now, I hope to get out there and really give the rockfish a go. Thanks for watching!
