    I have watched a lot of video's on this topic and I would like to say thank you for making this exact instructional video so simplistic. I am sure you could have gone into a lot more technical detail, as observed by your link comments, but I think what a lot of people forget in these instructional video's are the pure basics that you need to provide. Many times now I have watched a video from others gone away thinking I knew what was required and then found I was tripped up by a very basic requirement that was overlooked in the video due to the focus on more complex topics!.

    So if i wanna hook up a bunch of speakers to my smart tv, i can just run the hdmi to the avr for audio and in turn connect all the speakers to the avr, video will just stay on the tv?
    Or if it does send video thru hdmi as well, could I just run it back to my tv? So that it would be both video in and video out

    Wow!! What a great knowledge. I'm a novice in UK and I've had no prior clue about a receiver to be honest. I want to set up a basic home theatre and naively the first thing I've bought is a subwoofer (bad luck meant it came faulty and it couldn't even get switched on - waiting to have it returned), I've thought I would just connect the sub directly to tv, and that would be it. But then I started hearing the name "AV RECEIVER " and started to panic because the 12inch sub has literally dried my pocket out.
    Based on your review I've got at least a rudimentary idea of where this is going. A bit expensive though but I'm not going to look back. Thank you brother, God bless you

      Thank you so much for watching! It's these kinds of comments that keep us going. We're glad this video helped and we wish you luck on your Home Theater journey! We also recently released a video comparing a lot of different AV receivers to help people make the right decision as they're looking for a receiver. Thanks again!! 😀

    • @TwoGuyzTech
      @TwoGuyzTech  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching! The best way to do this would be to try using multi-channel pre-outs on the Harmon Kardon (if available) into the Multi-Channel Inputs on the Pioneer (again if it has those ports). Short of that, it can be hard to setup multiple receivers to work together unfortunately. Hope this helps though!

    I have a an old AVR and HD TV .Thanks to your review of the Sony X900H, I soon will be owning a 4K TV. I have a Blu-Ray player, a HD cable box, a PC and a HD Fire TV streamer all connected to the AVR. One question I have is is it best connect my old AVR to the new 4K TV and let the TV upscale to 4K, or buy a new 4K AVR and let the 4K AVR upscale first and then connect it to the 4K TV. Or since higher end TV's allow each HDMI input to have there own customizable settings, is it best to connect everything to the TV and then use the HDMI eARC on the TV to send the audio back to the AVR. Thankyou for any advice you can give.

    • @TwoGuyzTech
      @TwoGuyzTech  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks again for watching and for all of the support! :) The 4K upscaling inside of the X900H is really good thankfully. If you don't want to spend the money on a new receiver, the way we did it was to use a blu-ray player with separate HDMI ports for 4K video and audio - specifically the Sony UBP-X800. This way you can keep your older AVR (which is nice especially if it's a model with good sound) and not compromise on picture quality. Hope this helps!

  • @tedarin

    I've got an old H/K AVR 330 collecting dust. The main problem is that it hasn't got any HDMI. Is there any "box" that you can buy for multiple HDMI inputs that transfers the sound to the reciever?

    • @TwoGuyzTech
      @TwoGuyzTech  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching! There are some solutions called 'HDMI Audio Extractors' that you can get from places like Amazon but usually the best connection you can get from these is TOSLink which only supports compressed 5.1 DTS/Dolby Digital surround. It might be easier to get a new receiver but it's definitely worth exploring this option.

    • @TwoGuyzTech
      @TwoGuyzTech  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching! Unfortunately to take advantage of a 4K projector you would need to upgrade to a more modern receiver. If you want to compare some of the most common options, we made a Receiver Buyer's Guide video, which contains sections for 3 different price ranges, right here; th-cam.com/video/KH12cmCJ3TE/w-d-xo.html

    • @alonzomartii
      @alonzomartii 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes you can, as long and your new projects had component cables and in case it doesn't you will need a cable component to HDMI.
      How ever your video will still remain 720p, and stereo audio.
      You might want to check on your local thrift store with a little luck you'll get a decent $500 fro like $100-$150

      @TwoGuyzTech  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much for watching! We're glad we're able to help you out! Depending on the model of subwoofer and receiver you have, you might have a lot of different options - but for the most part, we would always recommend using an RCA cable to connect your subwoofer to your receiver. If you have the option of using balanced XLR connections, they could give you better sound quality but you'd have to make sure that both your receiver and your subwoofer support this type of connection.

    Hey this is kind of a dumb one: I'm struggling to understand how the display for the db works and why there are negative db numbers on it. Would be nice if you could help me.

    • @TwoGuyzTech
      @TwoGuyzTech  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much for watching!! The way we see it, there are no dumb questions! Essentially, your receiver is showing its sound output relative to reference level, or the volume that the recording studio mixed the track at. Usually, people play movies at reference level in really large theaters where they need to fill the area with tons of sound - but for most home theaters, that's just too loud. The 0dB volume represents a zero dB offset from reference level - and that's why it goes negative as you turn the volume down, because you're playing the track at that amount less dB from reference level. Hope this helps!!

    I really dont know anything about this stuff so I wanna ask why I can´t just connect a Playstation to the TV with HDMI and a 5.1 System to the TV with optical input? In what way does a Receiver make this better? And why should I plug a Playstation in a Receiver when my TV has HDMI too? Greetings from Germany

    • @TwoGuyzTech
      @TwoGuyzTech  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching! You could do that, but optical only supports up to 5.1 compressed surround sound, so you might not get really good sound if you configure your system that way. Plugging the Playstation into your receiver, and your receiver into your TV, means you can switch inputs using the receiver and keep everything plugged into one central location, which might be a little easier to use. If you have a TV with HDMI eARC, and you get a receiver that supports it, you could use your receiver a lot like a soundbar - it just gets whatever audio signal is going through the TV.

    I bought a Yamaha RX-v573, I have never had a receiver and I can't use this, I don't know if it's broken or if I'm doing something wrong. It has no remote control, so I was thinking if this is a important thing to make it work. I paid really cheap, but if it doesn't work I'd be in trouble.

    Mine has no sound to speakers except when running the microphone/ speaker setup for the room. I hear the thump thump thump through the speakers when the receiver is testing the sound using the microphone position around the room but no other sound comes through the speaker no Mayer what input I have it set to. I tried plugging in headphones in and out to see if that might trigger the sound but there is no sound in the headphones either. When switched to dvd, there is picture on my tv but no sound. I have followed some steps to fix it but no success.

    Hay if you hook a PC desktop or laptop to an Atmos reciever how do you get the PC to see it as such? Like I know it will see a 7.1 AVR cause ironically though the TX-SR 373 is 5.1 it would show up as a 7.1 AVR. But what happens if you hook a PC to a 9.1 or a 9.1 with all pre outs setup for 7.1.4 Atmos? Will Windows output 7.1.4?

    I am in a total quandary about hooking up my new receiver (Denon AVR-S540BT) to my existing components: 1) Comcast/Xfinity X-1 Cable Box; Samsung Model # SX022ANM 2) Sony Blue Ray DVD player Model #BDPS1700 3) AXESS 40" HD/LED TV Model # TVD1703-40. I have tried to hook everything up using HDMI cables as instructed by your video: Cable Box to TV, via HDMI, TV to Receiver via HDMI and DVD to Receiver via HDMI. This doesn't work at all. The appears to be no working HDMI from the TV to the Receiver. As you stated this is the most effective manner in which to install all hook-ups is via HDMI, plus I would get the added benefit of being able to view the Denon Receiver Set-up process on screen and see any subsequent settings of the receiver. I believe the problem is with the TV? It has three HDMI jacks, but I believe that all three are INPUT only and using any is not outputting to the receiver's six (6) HDMI jacks: 1) DVD/Blue Ray 2) Media Player 3) CBL/SAT 4) Blu-ray 5) Game and 6) Monitor 4K HDCP2.2 ARC - which has the logo: HDMI OUT. Perhaps you can advise me on how to set this up? Or perhaps you have another video that does the same? Or perhaps you have another video that does the same?
    I cannot afford to hire Geek Squad or another home theater tech company to assist me. And I cannot afford a new TV, since I am retired and live on a fixed income. If necessary, I could try and email you copies of user manuals’ pages that show the back panels of my components. Thanks.

    Could you do a video on how to tweak the AVR settings from Amp Assign to cross overs and levels etc.

    Mine doesn't have an hdmi port. but I just can't get audio out of it. I'm trying to run an optical spdif plug and I got my speakers wired in. just cannot seem to set it to make sound., losing my damn mind. It's the settings and screen display I can't work.

      Thanks for watching! Unfortunately in the scenario you mentioned you will need to get an AV receiver with HDMI ports.

    hey, so i can't find an answer to this: if i plug analogue signals in the receiver, will it output to hdmi??

    • @TwoGuyzTech
      @TwoGuyzTech  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching! This highly depends on the individual receiver that you have, and whether or not it has a built-in Analog to Digital Converter. This information usually isn't disclosed in the manual or any online documentation, so your best bet is to just try it out. Hope this helps!

      @@TwoGuyzTech Thank you so much! I just found out that mine doesn't have a Converter built in. So weird, not to advertise that. Oh well ... here goes more cables.
