      Sabonis was a legend and his story is incredible. I think I'm gonna rewatch his 30 for 30 from when ESPN wasn't garbage. Guy was so banged up by the end of his career that he probably had a 5 inch vertical but his timing was so good that he was still a top rebounder. He was just so fundamentally good and his court vision was unmatched, it's a shame we never saw him in his prime without all the injuries. I wish I could remember who he passed the ball to, but I will never forget one play where he was in the high post and no look backwards soccer passed the ball across the key to his teammate for a wide open layup
      I was a big Spurs fan in the Duncan days and seeing guys like Robinson, Paarker, Ginobili, Kerr and many others stick wiith the team for as long as they did made it more enjoyable. I still like the Spurs and some other teams I enjoyed back then but haven't followed the NBA closely at all in years.
      I hate the Lakers but Kobe, Shaq and many others spent a lot of time there. Steve Nash split his playing days with 2 teams for long stints (I hated the Maverricks, mostly because Mark Cuban is an A-hole but still had respect for guys like Steve and Dirk). Ben Wallace was a long term Piston, Iverson was a lifetime 76er and so many others (botth stars and role players) pre ring chasing days that it would be impossible to name them all. It all started to go downhill in that aspect when LeFraud James did the BS with Miami, then did his BS TO Miami...
      Players back then cared about legacy a lot more than they do now. It was probably easy to stay a Spur or a Laker or a piston for long periods of their careers back then due to the team success but even the less successful teams had long term guys, superstars included. D Wade is a legend in Miami while some Miamians would probably spit on Lefraud given the chance, 2 rings or not.

  • @SilverSpectre266

    This is why I respect Pat Riley so much. One thing thats been plaguing the league for years now is players who want all these massive salaries, and then they up and want to force trades, and teams have to scramble and either do 3 team trades just to get rid of them, or practically give up their current and future roster just to move them because of how big that persons contract is. Or, especially because of the new CBA they make it hard to even build a team.
    Seen too many franchises just self destruct themselves bowing to player whims, and the front offices have no backbone, so they bend over for them and even blame the coaches. Pat not only doesnt bend to contract demands, he is one of only 2 franchises that holds their coach in high regards over player tantrums. Hell, if more franchises were owned by people like Riley, players like Ben Simmons would already be out the league. League has way too many people that want to just sit out while having big contracts right now. All this talk about ""potential", and "when healthy", needs to stop because most of the times these guys are never healthy for most of the season.

      @ you are spot on! Think about this - the Celtics won the title - Brown MVP not on team USA, Jason Tatum barely plays - why? No one can out shine LeBiogenesis James. Then ESPN starts discrediting NBA titles for gold medals - and LeBron gets a fake MVP.
      Who wants to watch this shit? Calling it WWE is an insult to WWE. At least in the WWE they care to compete to put on the most entertaining matches for the fans even tho the outcome may be scripted. Also in WWE you have to actually be able to wrestle. Bronny James got more coverage than the first pick in the draft.
      LeBron just took competitiveness out of the NBA. He is a prototype entitled narcissist. Klutch has made the NBA media a fanboy propaganda clown show. All this and I didn’t even get to that they shoot 100 3s a game and they legislated defense out.
      Adam Silver after the malice at the palace - he and David Stern overreacted and wanted a safe homogenized NBA - no emotions - just bland to market and move products for sponsors. That’s what you have - a marketing gimmick designed as a sports league.
      every sport is about winning, the term “ring culture” was invented by LeBron and this generation that wanna crown themselves as the best without winning and making the game about padding stats and not competing. The league has lost half its audience in 10 years. It’s not politics. I am completely liberal and I can’t stand the NBA, I watch far more WNBA. Load management… The league is a joke.

I'm never going to fault someone for seeking better pay, but you have to be available and perform. I'm not sure Jimmy wants to do that, and is even capable of it, so it will be interesting to see what team is going to take that gamble.

    NBA needs a new commissioner. One that will return the sport back to what it was. I honestly believe that the off court stuff like this directly causes the poor show on the court. Players have been given too much power and when they are making millions it is very off putting for fans for them to throw these fits. Need someone to lead the NBA and tell the players shut up and play. If you don’t like your situation then work it out like an adult while still putting your max effort for whatever team you are on. And Jimmy was paid well for both those finals appearances. He cashed the checks did he not? But this is different. You have to weigh his potential future production vs the teams future when it comes to putting money on the line, Butler may have been a great player, but his future potential gains have dwindled significantly. He’s not the player he once was, the production isn’t there, and the money he is asking for will lock up the team’s future potential acquisitions and signings with little to show for it.

Jimmy is great in the playoffs, but the only time they managed home-court in the playoffs during his tenure in Miami was 2022. Many thanks to Jimmy, but he doesn't get that retirement money because it will keep the Heat from building a winner, now more than ever with the East on the rise. Maybe he is not really into the "Heat Culture", because after all, he can still get a job like UD when he retires, if he plays his cards right.

    Since Jimmy's last Finals appearance, I have felt that his success with Miami-overachievement, actually-put him in a light that he did not belong in. Hell, "Playoff Jimmy" was never a real thing until he got to Miami where there were no other players on the team clearly better than him. His limitations as a player, his injury history, his approach to the regular season, and now his age have always kept him below where he could be. I agree with Pat Riley for recognizing where Jimmy is now and not kowtowing to his demands.
    HOWEVER, Riley is not blameless in this at all. After every ECF or Finals appearance that Jimmy led the Heat to, Riley and the front office should have been doing their best to improve the roster around Jimmy so that their chances of winning increased; they never did that. If they did not believe that Jimmy was good enough to get the Heat anywhere, they should have either traded him a long time ago or not signed him in the first place. Riley has a history of being complacent when it comes to building or retooling a roster. Btw, D-Wade did not even ask him for much money-only $15 million-and he wouldn't even pay him that.

    • @willingexile3374
      @willingexile3374 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I agree they should have done more, but it's not as simple as looking at a player's stat sheet/scouting report, and then acquire the player, and you get to win. The only move I found questionable was getting Victor Oladipo. The Lowry trade, and then the trade for Rozier after that, only look bad in hindsight. What Riley didn't do was moving players who helped them win, and that's a two-edged sword. Should they have paid Robinson less, and risk losing him to the competition? Should they have given more for Lillard without seeing Herro's ceiling? Would getting another blue-chipper guarantee winning? Who would have thought Strus, Vincent, Highsmith, and Caleb Martin would pan out? I Mistakes were made, for sure, but we are only looking from the end-point of the decision, not the beginning.

    • @urbaindelva7869
      @urbaindelva7869 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@willingexile3374The trades for Lowry and Rozier were not bad at the time they happened, but they were questionable given Lowry's age and decline, and Rozier's limited impact. I'll admit, they were right to not risk losing Robinson to the competition because he has actually improved in recent years and recovered from his "bad contract" years, but they could've let the market determine his value as a RFA (I'm assuming that he was one when they paid him) instead of overpaying him outright; it also depends on who they would've lost him to if they had not paid him. As for Herro, they should've just traded Jimmy and rebuilt around Herro if they really wanted to see the latter's ceiling, which he appears to be reaching right now. Strus, Vincent, Caleb Martin, and Highsmith all clearly overperformed, which they deserve many props for, but that was not something they could keep relying on. I agree that nothing was guaranteed, but they signed Jimmy when he was 30, meaning that they had a limited window already, especially with his injury history; they did not truly maximize it.

    I like Jimmy a lot. But in the last few years, Jimmy has been inconsistent in all aspects of the game: Inconsistent in availability, production, and mood. People are sort of disillusioned with all the old guys still playing well, not realizing that is the exception for them. He is 35, and not as good as he once was. And thats ok. Miami needs consistant production from its star players. Cant be avg 25 a game, and losing games by 2-3 points constantly because you only scored 15 while taking the most shots on the team. And he has never left a team on good terms he has worn out his welcome everywhere he has been he may wind up waived on the next team if he isnt careful. It can happen.

    I think this video title is being taken too literally. Jimmy isn’t the reason why the NBA sucks, but his behavior with this situation is an example of why the NBA sucks (if we’re granting that it does suck). And yes, we can largely blame Lebron for the player empowerment movement going too far, resulting in stuff like this.

    Contracts should be paid out in per game increments. If you don’t play you forfeit that game’s payment towards fulfillment of your contract unless you are proven injured and are on the IR list. The organizations and the NBA are allowing this type of behavior. Furthermore players that don’t fulfill the contractual obligations they signed should be sued for breach of contract. Performance stipulations should be written in as well. This is a business like any other.

The nuggets made moves to get Russel Westbrook , bucks acquired Damian lillard,warriors traded klay so younger talent can help Stephen curry, the suns got Durant and Bradley Beal. These are all teams who made the finals in the 2020s and the front office acquired talent to insure the team would be successful moving forward.On the other hand the heat have had the same team since 2020 and had no big pick up via trade or free agency to help buttlers chances of winning

    Guys the whole fault ofplayers like jimmy butler being overpaid lies with GMs and coaches. Look at Pat Bev. Look at the way he makes decisions. Jimmy was definitely worth a supermax extention for his last contract but thats not jimmy anymore and everybody knows it but some sucker of a gm WILL pick him up because well.....they're desperate. Every starter that makes the playoffs nowadays just gets a bag because GMs play it. Frankly the whole system with the Max contract is flawed in my opinion. It gives players like jimmy an arbitrary line they can point to and say yeah im worth that much because others are worth that much. And look at the league. Every goddamn team has multiple players on max contracts and every guy on a max contract doesnt even play 70 games anymore.
    My point is that if you bow down to players once all the players all around the league think theyre worth shit when in fact they're not.
