This is one of the best builds I've seen, and I've been planning my first vivarium for a crestie for 3 months. Been waiting on black Friday deals. I've seen tons of these videos.

Considering you just cooked your air plants with hot glue I wouldn't worry about air flow! 😂😂😂

You've gotta use tropical air plants in vivs like this. The other ones can't survive being in contact with water so much.

Can I use any type of branches/sticks that I find from my woods? Or should it be of a particular type? Thanks!

You want to avoid putting anything permanent that will mold. I would bake and soak anything from outside because it will bring critters into your tank.

I honestly don't remember what I used. I probably got one with 2 bags of soil.

Looks amazing. I assume you're in Canada. How do you keep your geckos warm in the winter, or is your house just warm enough as is?

I live in Washington state where it’s pretty cold year round and I usually use a lower watt ceramic heat emitters some people say you “don’t need a heater” for crested geckos but I’ve noticed a HUGE improvement in his energy and and movement at night

I have used a hermit crab heating pad on the side of the tank. It makes a small air pocket that stays about 5 degrees warmer.

How many bags of hydro balls did this enclosure use?

How would you clean that I want to do this but I don't want to have a bioactive cage.

You mean you don't want to have bioactive substrate?

It’s not worth it to have to clean out the poop every couple days; just get some spring tails and isopods, and you won’t even need to clean the poop

Hi! Is it safe to leave the black silicone covering the great stuff since the silicone is aquarium safe? Or do you need to cover it with the substrate to be suitable? I kind of like the look of a very dark background contrasted against very light plants, and I'm wondering if I could just leave the silicone covering the great stuff and call it good? Thanks! Subbed!

I believe it is safe to just have the silicon. But I would let is dry and air out for weeks. The only reason to use silicon is to cure substrate and the substrate helps the geckos use the wall and help the cleaning crew climb if they like. Animals may not be alive to climb the silicone. And you would probably have to clean it more often. You can always just use the Stone Great Stuff only.

What type of plants did you use? I'm converting my 20 gallon long and I'm not sure what plants are safe for my crested gecko. Also, which kit did you get from bio dude?

    • @greatnorthreptiles105

I use the TerraFauna substrate. And I use Pothos and Wandering Jews because they are easy to take care of and survive my poor horticulture skills.

Don’t buy a long tank, crested geckos need tall tanks to climb in

What light do you use? And do you need to add extra heat? If so how do you do it?

    • @greatnorthreptiles105
      @greatnorthreptiles105  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I use a simple kitchen LED light. These conversions are not suitable if you need high heat. For some small supplemental heating, you can put a heat mate on the side of the enclosure with a thermostat.

Its for a crested gecko. I dont need high heat. My house is just a little cold in the winter and id like to give a bit extra heat! Thank you!
