    Thank you for pointing out how important it is that the yarn be under the nook/hook at the beginning and end of each edge. That’s what was messing me up. I also found that pulling a bit on the yarn when you reverse the direction helps keep the ends neat by removing excess yarn that forms those ugly open loops along the edge that can then loosen those stitches and increase the problem of them lifting off and unraveling later.

      @@Katieree I think this person has said it all but lemme just quickly go over my experience. My one bedroom is currently filled with yarn. I got this for $8 as a gift from the thrift store and obviously cus it’s a thrift store yarn was extremely cheap so i got a bunch. I did the first round and it worked but all of a sudden it stopped🤡🎈! I wondered why until I watched where you said to make sure it is knotted in the beginning. I haven’t even gone far and i can tell you it’s looking good!!! Definitely why it keeps dropping stitches imo. Jeez I almost cried cus as you can tell it was a good deal and this was my first time. Getting it right on the first try just made me sad when I couldn’t get it again but I kept putting it on the white one like one video suggested 🤦🏾‍♀️🤦🏾‍♀️🤦🏾‍♀️

    • @amberschiwi
      @amberschiwi 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I want to try joining panels by matress stitch and maybe be able to make a drop shoulder sweater. The limit of [maximum number of needles minus 4 needles for turning] is quite a small amount when one thinks of making an adult sized garment. When I take off the panel from the machine, it has width x, which is determined by the distance between the needles. When I then pull it lengthwise and get the optics of regular knitting, it 'shrinks' enormously [unless I use a chunky or aran weight, which I don't want to]. I will experiment some more, also with continuing handknitting from the cast-off stitches - some ribbing maybe? 🤔

    Thank you very much for your top notch tutorial, the close-ups are so helpful. ❤ I was wondering if either you or someone else reading this could kindly help me, please: When I'm knitting a panel, I tend to lose the first and last stitch, especially after changing from waste yarn to project yarn. I have tried everything I could find online about casting on properly, adjusting the tension, how to change colours etc. What tends to happen is that the first/last stitch gets stuck on top of the needle, so I can only crank on if I move the yarn on that needle manually and I'm never sure whether to pull it over the needle (which often leads to a knotted bulk of stitches after a few rows) or whether to pull it back to the front to form a loop around the needle (which often leads to losing that stitch). I hope this makes sense, it's driving me nuts and I'm so proud I haven't thrown a temper tantrum yet. 😂 Thanks in advance to anyone who has a moment to reply. ❤

    • @amberschiwi
      @amberschiwi 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      with her tipps and tricks I have tried making a panel again, but I seem to run into similar issues like you.
      She mentions one will lose the first 2 stitches, so if you want a panel of 20 sts, you will need to cast on to needles 1 through 22. maybe make a mark with a sharpie on the 'nook' left of your last needle, so you'll know what spot to look out for for the turn that will give you a clean edge.
      I myself will try to make a panel without the panel setting, so I have full flexibility and security when to make the turn without running the risk of breaking the machine

    • @loreleyamiti3147
      @loreleyamiti3147 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@amberschiwi Thank you for taking the time to reply and for sharing. I will keep that in mind. I also realised that it happens less frequently when I start threading from the third or even fourth or fifth needle so the first stitches don't start rising again once I come back the end of the row. Just takes a bit more focus to stop in time. I still lose / "knot up" stitches at the beginning and the end when the loop gets stuck on top of the raised needle and I don't know whether whether pull it back over the needle or to push it to the front but it's better now. I finished a very amateur-looking shawl and I haven't thrown anything against the wall! 😄♥️

      @amberschiwi 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      hi Canada and others in this comment.
      I answered to another user's question - so here it is:
      waste yarn is some leftover - or just a cheaper - yarn in the same thickness as your 'real' yarn.
      The first few and last few rounds tend to be a bit more loose than the central portion [once it's off the machine and straighteted out/ steam blocked].
      To make sure you are catching all the needles you want and have a good idea on the edge manipulation, you don't want to waste precious yarn [think cashmere headband or beanie...], therefore you cast on with a cheaper yarn with hood twist; once you are well established in cranking, stopping, checking the nook, having a good tension, *then* you change to your 'good' yarn. Once you have reached the amount of rows required, you change back to the waste yarn, work a few more rows and cast off.
      You can then slip the last row of your good yarn stitches onto a knitting needle [pick up the right leg of each stitch, coming in from the right] then rip out the waste yarn and either work a nice bind-off, work some ribbing or speciat stitches above the machine-knit part and _then_ bind off.
      Same but different for the bottom waste yarn: pick up the sts of the first row if 'good yarn', carefully cut one stitch of waste yarn in the row below. You can now undo this row and thereby separate the waste yarn section from the good yarn section.
      Again, your options are then to knit on and then bind off, or bind off directly

      Thanks so much for doing this! I got my machine yesterday, but the counter doesn't work and my panel setting doesn't all around like yours when I do the casting. Do I need to adjust something? xxx

    • @Katieree
      @Katieree  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The panel setting isn’t meant to go all the way around. Once it stops you need to crank back the other way. If you want it to go all the way around you need to change it to the tube setting. Also, your row counter won’t work on the panel setting 👎🏼 if you’re still having issues after this you should contact the seller and ask for a replacement. All the best! 💕

    • @amberschiwi
      @amberschiwi 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      yes, it quite needs some getting used to. Figuring out what yarn thickness and yarn 'slickness' works best, how much tension is necessary for the cast-on and later for feeding yarn in... The best advice I can give at the moment is - make sure the yarn can unwind from its ball freely. As a handknitter I tend to use the centre of a yarn ball, but one works very slowly compared to the machine, so the take up is much higher. -> use the outside of the yarn ball, place the yarn ball in a bowl or little bucket and place it directly underneath the tensioning device (you can probably just place it between your feet).
