      +Isia Sooth if you want to be a musician, and are happy from your self.. dont think about others, just think and worry about yourself and your future, keep practcing and one day you will get it! like me, I always wanted to be the 1st cello in the orchestra, imagine in the orchestra, im the leader someone important, and I got it, not by a wind that passed by, but by years of practicing and believing in my self.. I always dreamt of being a professional musician, and one day I'll get it, cus I believe in my self and I will fear nothing infront of me, just keep going on the right path!
      and its better to focus on 1 instrument, Peace :)

    I fell in love with the dancers introduced. They were amazing and their passion was fulfilling(as im an artist and i can relate). Ballet is a beautiful thing and they showed more emotion, passion, determination then that nutcracker dance i went to see a couple of years ago(although im beginning to think i'd appreciate it even more had i seen this first). Gaia was my favorite. To me, she just had this persona that took over her body, movements,attitude, and emotions and she embodied that character and i loved seeing all her dances, so flawless. Rebecca messed up alittle, but she did this emotional, beautiful last dance that won my heart. Michaela, im so proud of you! She, even with the pain, went through it and i was amazed and mesmerized by her performance; i have to say i was very emotional before her performance for fear of her foot. Aran, i was cursing the judges at the end, but then they gave you what you deserved, which was exactly what you deserved!And Joan, you were amazing and im glad you reached your goal. Great job to all the dancers for trying sooo hard in a competitive environment from such a young age, for their passion. This documentary was beautiful.

    Everyone tells me I'm talented but they're wrong, I'm nothing compared to these kids. (I'm 12) I've choreographed since I was 7 and I still do it. Even if I continue I'll never make it into profession because I can't show emotion. I have emotions but I can only express them in words and thoughts not facial expressions. I want to be a writer, I've been told I'm good at writing, but I want to dance. I'm a natural with music, especially with composing and playing by ear. I've done plays before, my memory is amazing but I can't show a large range of emotion. I'm stuck in advanced classes, a mostly straight A student (a few B+'s here and there) and one of the most avid readers in my grade. But I'll never make a profession from dance like I've always wanted just because I can't show emotion. I've been latching onto ballroom dance but there's no classes in the area, I feel guilty for preferring latin and ballroom over ballet and lyrical because all I've wanted to do was be a ballerina since I was 3. If you can suggest anything I can do in my career, go ahead but professional dancer has a very low chance of ever happening.

    • @bluepool210
      @bluepool210 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Hey, I know it's been a month since you wrote this but... there's still time to grow. You're only twelve. I don't mean that in a patronizing way. All I mean is that there's still so much time for you to learn and to improve. Anything is possible with enough effort. Really, truly. Please don't fence yourself in mentally with "I can't" and "I'll never" because you can if you're insane enough to believe that you will. One can learn to express emotion just as well as one can learn technique. Sure, it's harder and it'll take hours and hours of scrutiny, analysis, tweaking, reworking, repeating. Maybe it won't come naturally as it might for others - maybe you'll have to use muscle memory to remember how each count could be expressed and practice that until on stage, it seems like the emotion comes freely, inspired. Anyways, my point is, there is nothing that is impossible. Sometimes, social or financial situations may counter hard work but lack of talent never will. Lack of talent (in your case, lack of expressiveness) will always be overcome by effort. Especially when you've got such a long way to go (and grow) ahead of you. Sorry this is so long, I felt it was important. I do hope you read it though. Good luck.

I just passed my junior 2 jazz exam :) I've had to miss some school, stay up late for homework, not be able to hang out with friends after school, and can't feel my legs or sit down sometimes but it's worth it and I couldn't have made a better choice of a sport.

    I love ballet, I've been doing it my whole life. Sometimes people don't understand how hard it is. When you're on pointe, one little mistake could ruin your whole ballet career. There are so many skills to ballet you must master, like high legs, straightened knees, I could go on and on. Sadly, I must quit ballet to pursue my skating career.

      A friend of my mother has a son who got a degree in Genetics and was half way through a Masters (he was about 22 at the time) when he took a ballet class just as something to keep active. He's 28 now and working full time as a ballet dancer for an Irish dance troupe. I know it sounds insane but he just loved it from the minute he started it and so he gave up everything and went for it. It is possible to start late, you just have to give it everything you've got.

It's never too late, my ballet teacher's mom is also a ballet teacher, she started to dance when she was 22 and she became a profesional dancer with her own dance studio, she's in her sixties and sometimes she gives us classes, she's awesome and so flexible too! I hope that as soon as you read my comment you pick yourself up, go and get a pair of dance shoes and sign up to a dance studio, coming from a dancer who started late, i promise you, you won't regret it!

    Part of the reason ballet is so hard for me is that I'm not naturally flexible, and a lot of people in my class and also the owner of my studio are flexible, and it makes me scream when they say I need to have a deeper plié and higher over splits. They don't get how hard I work. And then this lazy girl just got pointè shoes and they're still telling me I need to work harder to get them. And my mom keeps pressuring me to do extra classes when I already am.

    like not taking away from ballet its hard work and dedication, but so is anything else like anyone that takes anything seriously enough to make a carrer out of it, ends up giving up their childhood, friends, basically their life. we all got to do what we have to do, to do what we want to do.

    I've been dancing since I was 4, and I've wanted to go on pointe since I was 11 (I'm 14 now) and I've always been told "your body isn't the correct one to be en pointe" "your thighs are too thick" "your feet are too flat" "I just can't see you do it" and that's made me want to do it even more. I don't think I've worked with ballet harder than I have within the last 7 years dancing. I'm hoping to get en pointe next year (this september), if not, I'm not going to stop trying

    Oh absolutely, I totally agree, it is first and foremost entertainment but it always means and feels so much deeper to those who do it or have done it before as compared to someone watching it purely for entertainment, if that makes sense. I suppose it boils down to I think people would enjoy it so much more if they knew its inner workings and exactly how much work goes into those moves, the power, the strength, and complexities of delivering it to an audience, it's truly an awe inspiring art.

    As an American it drives me nuts too!!! I like to go to a ballet to see the beauty of the dancing playing out a story, not to hear clapping and cheering after each and every scene, it disrupts the story and experience.

    It never stops hurting because progress never stops. Once you've reached the splits? Go for the over-splits. Once you're on pointe? Longer times dancing and more difficult sequences. And as well as this, the injuries are often laid upon each other.

  • @EnglishRose719
    @EnglishRose719 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    I don't mean it disrupts the dancer, of course a dancer loves to hear applause at their efforts (I did ballet for 8 years and was in The Nutcracker) I simply mean it disrupts the enjoyment of the audience when people clap after every minutely impressive move they see, even a simple pirouette which to a ballet minded person is nothing. It'd be like someone clapping after every line an actor delivers in a movie, it just muffles the story and experience.

    I think basically not many Americans understand ballet. They see a neat turn OOOO CLAP CLAP CLAP!!! Then they see grand jete and OOOOO CLAP CLAP!!!! Not knowing that it's not just a display of neat looking move but oftentimes a story or message conveyed through movement. It's depth, it's feeling, it's passion, not just "Wow! She did the splits in the air!"
