In the 80s three of us took on a senario of an unfinished B10 being towed to the Romulans for a technology trade. Active systems was decided by die rolls and it was escorted. The goal was to attack' the convoy and prevent the transfer ot technology... I was a long fun evening of SFB gaming... Also involved was Matt Berry and Mike Kozlowski... Great fun on a cold winter night.
The Hellbore ALSO after damaging all the shields, then concentrates the remaining energy on the WEAKEST shield, REGARDLESS of where it is at time of impact.
I used the B10 a couple of times in SFB, loved that ship.
the B10 had a Stasis Field Generator which can be devastating. Essentially freezing (in time and space) a target ship so that the rest of your fleet can close to point blank at which point the field generator releases the target ship to massive punishment.
you know back in the day I played a little and talked with alot of players of SFB. They said the best thing they could do with it was turn it into a Mauler ship.

Indeed, you have to loose SEVERAL Vessels to Catastrophic Magazine Detonations.
I was playing the B 10 with friends and because of their fear of the status field generators, they tried to swarm me from behind and the rear flanks (3, 4, 5 shields). Unknown to them I'd paid the warp cost for a High Energy Turn, the next 5 minutes was scrolling through the rules trying to say I can't do a High Energy Turn in a B 10.
Every ship gets 1 HE -turn free, TRAPPED all but 1 with the SFG and hit the last one with 8 overloaded disruptors and a shuttle scatter pack. 😁

In a way SFB is "more canon than canon" because it is a continuation of the work of Franz Joseph. Franz Joseph was more responsible for creating the Federation Star Fleet, and the engineering lore of Star Trek, than Gene Roddenberry was. Roddenberry gave only the most vague description of Star Trek lore and one ship. Franz Joseph made blueprints of five ships, the communicator, tricorder, etc.
If you guys are looking for a good SFB ship to do, one that has a very detailed history too it like the B10 does, look at the Federation Heavy Battle Cruisers. They had unique designs (there were all different from each other) and names (New Jersey, Bismark, & Kirov) and there is a lot of good history of this class for you to work with in doing an episode on them.

Klingon B-10 Battleship is the reason why the Mars class, Proxima class, and even the Atlas class existed.

Fantastic ship. This what a Klingon ship ought to look like and Starfleet battles was one of the best games for Star Trek. I preferred the FASA game, but also enjoyed Starfleet battles for the classic Trek experience. Very nice, gents. Thank you for reviewing this ship.
You left out the b11. It's basically the full version of the ship when finished with all upgrades. That's from ripping the parts in out like they said in the storyline
I enjoy pack hunting with D5 war cruisers ( a pack is 6 with a D7 c in command to this pack you add 3 casual pfs per ship 1 drone each / rest phasers n disruptors all tractors add meck links . Each has 1 add( 21 pfs a real hornet nest
I like the multi-layered forward bridge section, how it stacks up vertically almost like a modern aircraft carrier's spire. :D

If you think about it, the B-10 resembles the Yamato-class battleship: a massive battlewagon that nobody else even tried to match, which was an enormous resource-sink for a nation that was not exactly blessed with vast deposits of iron ore. Even the pagoda-style bridge is borrowed to some extent from Japanese capital ship design.
And in game, ships like this were overtaken by many of the same factors that saw the end of battleships in real-world naval warfare; fighter squadrons (and later in the game, gunboat flotillas) made them largely obsolete. For the cost of putting a monster like this into space, you could produce enough fighters to kill it ten times over and the carriers to deliver them.
Yes, it uses as much common parts as possible from other ship classes... because it's more efficient. Why create an entirely new class of warp nacelle when four standard D7 nacelles will do the job? Why redesign the overall scheme of a rear wing hull with a forward boom when that design has proven itself, *and* when parts already under manufacture for other ships can be used? When you're at war (as was the case in game with the Klingons when the B10 project really got going), you look for economies of design, because everything you have to tool up brand new represents both resources and time (and if your new project doesn't turn out, you can use pretty much everything except the superstructure itself in existing, proven warship classes).
What you've said about repurposing parts makes sense, but only to a point. What they did with the B-10 is to take the basic design aesthetic of the D-7 but made it larger, that doesn't help anything to reduce costs. It's not like taking a Spruance and making a Ticonderoga where you just lengthen the hull some and maybe rearrange some of the internal space or where the US made the first boomer by simply cutting an existing attack sub in half and welding in missile tubes into the gap. We're talking about something more akin to taking a Burke class destroyer and scaling it up to a battleship. There's no cost savings by doing this and you;re likely to cause yourself more headaches by doing so rather than trying to build something from scratch. By scaling things up you now have to rearrange the internal layout because each deck has now been scaled up, so you have to add more decks, move components around, more conduits, more wiring, and you're now limited to trying to fit new weapons systems, more sensors, more systems all around into an existing hull shape which limits what you can do. It's like the problems that we are facing with the Burke class, because of their age they're starting to, or have, reach the limit of how much more we can upgrade them because they just no longer have the room for anything new or to fit anything new it would require so much redesigning of the base design that we might as well come up with a brand new destroyer design.
I once made the Klingon B-10 Battleship a year ago out of LEGO's. I took it apart because it was too heavy to play with not to mention it kept on falling apart.

Those two nacelles underneath look dumb, like they were just tacked on as an afterthought. The ones on the wing tips hanging down look good, should have just had the extra ones be a mirror image facing upwards on the wing tips.

The B 10 has flaws but by the rules player costume mods can reduce them it worst thing is turn mode. With fire arck upgrades can be helped their are other things to help weapons hit success it's large hanger bay can be worked with .
Main fault is uncertainty as to how to out fit for other use ( player tactics decide this ) tractors with meck links allows for other options to help defense
Would love the see the B-10 with a K'Tinga detail upgrade.
You forgot the 5th ship earmarked as a KB10-R to transfer to the Romulans (would never have happened).
And that was a beast of a ship. There were only two galactic powers ships that could give it pause (The last refit Gorn DN and the ISC DN) and it could bloody the nose of an Andromedan Dominator by itself, a claim not many ships could equal. BTW it's not the only 'canon' BB. The Neo Tholians had one, but it was so badly damaged on the trip to the Milky Way it was scrapped for parts for their other ships.
I've played the big scenario where the B-10 canonically destroyed a Dominator, (and I was one of the two Andromedan players) and it made a very good showing indeed.
It looks like a huge metal space bird with a bunch of tumors growing out it's the head.
I love the SFC version of this particular ship. It's so massive and amazing. It even dwarfs the romulan warbird in the game. It's just a brilliant design as well as it's Klingon Academy version. Loved that game as well.
Fast payroll ships ( ( pfs) made fighters outdated , enter interceptors ( fighters with shields as on part of the federation . ) other races did employ pfs as per normal . Fed doctorin not like use of pfs
That the reason for the excelsior and the transworp system the b10 was going to be to fast and twice as armed a the sonstitution so the transwarp would have supress the speed advantage of the 4 low baring nacel was giving it and there why their more weapon on the excelsior whith a bigger neck to protect the warp corr better eventualy b10 didnt make it because of all the contraint and the transwarp fail but the excelsior was a power house anyways thats why it enter in production and staided for almost a century being refit and part being reuse for new class like centaur

Starfleet Command is basically the electronic version of the starfleet battles.
Also the in-game models are TMP era based which don't look as clunky as the above B10.
There's a mod that I play on my channel that gives you back a more classic FASA look.
I've always though adding some ability to highlight what you are discussing, e.g., drawing a circle around it, would really help the clarity of presentation.

Starfleet Battles was the cover name for a game actually named Starfleet Accounting.
It is logical that I have memories of that game but most illogical that I have affectionate memories of that game.

Know it's super late but there was a really good TMP/K'tinga style version of this done by Atolm and Wicked Zombie for the Starfleet Command games, you can still find it on WZ's website at www.demonrenegadestudios.com/ along with a bunch more SFB inspired ships in the TMP aesthetic like the C8, E4, F5, G2 for the Klingons and a Mars for the Feds at least. There's probably others I'm forgetting, but yeah, it basically does the 'like this but refined' thing you were talking about in this vid.
I love these designs. You can clearly see the evolution from the D5 up to the B10.
I'm not sure when the F5 was built, would that have been an ENT era design?

I very much enjoyed the B-10 vid. Since I'm no ship designer and don't have the tools, using Paint I made my own version of the B-10 which looks much better than this. Wish I could 3D render sigh!
If that description of SFB Hellbores is correct, it acts quite different from the SFC version which always strikes the weakest/downed shield.
In SFB a Hellbore Cannon does 50% damage to the weakest shield, and 50% divided equally among the other 5 shields.
From an in universe perspective. I would assume the use of Similar shapes was a way to keep the costs down on an already prohibitively expensive design.
Go with what we know works, where we can to try to keep the costs down. As opposed to innovating on absolutely everything where you may not need to..

Show idea, how about from the FASA Star Trek the Klingon L-13 Fatman battleship? Rather interesting design, not very effective but it looks cool; kind of like a refrigerator in space with a Klingon command boom on it.
@ValorJ Omega I would agree with that as well, the Commando in the game was really ran as kind of the real kick butt mech. I like the stock Commando, that big SRM 6 will rock someone's world.

hard to describe how ugly this ship looks. they didnt change anything, just made it bigger and then what they changed looks completely unfitting

Agreed, it's not aesthetically appealing imho. This is a case where someone's enthusiasm far outweighed their design skills. I'm glad to see this never making canon. A comparable massive Klingon vessel that I thought would fit nicely in canon would be the D-10 Riskadh.

I always found the player with a B-10 lost from over confidence. You give the same player a weaker ship and they would play better.
