Crappie Fishing in Mid-February

  • The day started off very tough. High pressure, no wind, and bluebird skies made for some very finicky fish; plus I couldn't find the school of big female crappie I had been on a week ago. Thankfully, I had live scope, and I was still able to add a few to my 2 lb club. The water temp was 47 degrees and the crappie were suspending 6-8 feet over 10-12 feet of water. Once again, I was mainly using a Cut Throat CHIP (Cowboy Series 3-3/8") jig on a Chartreuse 1/8 oz RR Jigs jighead.

I have a little pond hopper boat like you and they are some great boats. I would suggest you add a trolling motor foot control so all you have to do is bump it with your foot instead of twisting the handle. It makes boat control alot easier and it will only cost you $25. Keep those great videos coming.

I'm actually considering getting a spot lock trolling motor.

Hey Jerry. Nice Slabs! Love seeing the big ones! (C'mon man....ditch the livescope). I am subscribed as of today, but if you continue to use the Livescope, I won't be for long. (Just as Richard Gene how to do it). I have a "Slightly Modified" Pelican myself, but only a $99 Hummingbird to show me depth/contours and I do just fine. Good luck!

This is my first time using livescope in winter, and with the fish mostly swimming solo or in pairs offshore, I wouldn't have any footage if I ditched it now. Besides, this is prime time to catch a giant, so I won't be going without it until at least post spawn. In summer, I'll ditch the boat and go back to tubing. Thanks for watching.

Some average joes just won a fishing derby without electronics. Its crazy how far fishing has come from first gen ff to now cashable bluetooth ff. Awesome slabs.

@D J I saw that online. Nice to see guys still winning without livescope. I'm still trying to beat my PB that I caught before I bought my unit.

Never take a scale into your boat, then they weigh heavier

Very true!!! I'm pretty good at guessing, but having caught a 4 lb crappie once, sometimes I get those giants that are beyond what I can eyeball accurately. What state are you in, Kenny?

That water is too calm to be in Oklahoma.
