A proud Bristolian, that is a tough part of town but a real inspiration to kids from that background. He clearly made a few mistakes along the way but with help from others he didn't allow it to define him. There is huge potential in those areas which England need to tap into. Rugby a game for all shapes and sizes and all classes.
His story makes me cry, i think it resonates with a lot of kids growing up in the UK, not everyone in Rugby come from public schools with a lot of privilege
Interesting character. Very good to see different people coming through into pro rugby. Far more interesting path than the Haskell's of the world. Well done Gengey lad.
So many potential superstars with true grit & character, growing up just as Gengey has described here. Imagine if they got the investment, time & attention from RFU that they truly deserve. England misses that grit on the big stage so often, last weekend actually being an exception
South Africa fan here but I must admit, Ellis Genge is one England player I'm a fan of. His style of play and scrummaging is so similar to a typical Springbok prop. Aggressive & explosive💪💪 Love the fact that he calls a spade a spade as well👍
Im a knowle west born and bread. Its a bad place and to see someone make it is amazing. One thing with knowle no matter how bad it is there, there is no racism witch is good.
If he didn’t swear so much he’d be a good England captain. I know his angle may be, ‘that’s just me’, but the rest of us may think, ‘the swearing is just not us’.
My captain. I’m 46 mixed race man and I can honestly say Ellis is a hero of mine. Proud to be Bristolian.
We love Genge. Gives his all on the pitch. True to his roots.
Hahaha, Southmead Massive
Here's a lad who not just fought his demons but he battered them. Big thumbs up from this Tigers fan.
Wasps fan here and I wholeheartedly agree with you!
An great interview and honest and thoughtful attitude from Ellis. Very proud of all his achievements a true inspiration to many young folks.
Wales fan here. Ive got lots of time for Genge tons of respect for the man.

What everyone else said. What a guy and what honesty, as he always has. Brilliant.
Great to hear from Eliis. Great player and character
Well acheived young man!👏👏👏👏
Gengey training with my old mma coach at 3:50 at the legendary Sweatbox gym. Massively recommend that place to everyone.
Genge, Itoje, Ford and Smith are all world class players. England is capable of making the RWC final.
they will
They are and England do have quality 1-15 but they won't be making the final on penalties and drop goals alone.
they beat a top 6 team with 14 men for 75 mins, it was a strong performance.@@neilsoncoombs4319
@@neilsoncoombs4319seem to remember it served us well in 2003.
@@johnrichards4097 they actually scored tries then too
Very good player.
Hats off to the guy for what he has achieved ; comes across as a decent skin as well....
Captain, my Captain.
Bris ❤

Why did he change to prop instead of stay 8
