    Lisa Fischer appears in “20 Feet From Stardom” a documentary 20+ years after her only solo album was released. She explains she was working on a second album when she realized she didn’t want to be a solo artist and all that comes with it so her second album was never completed. She’s more comfortable being a background singer living a normal life.

  • @WhitneyR.
    @WhitneyR. 4 ปีที่แล้ว +59

    IMO, Lisa Fischer has one of the best voices ever, and she could have definitely been as successful as the divas from the 90’s. She wrote this, saw it go to #1 on R&B, won a Grammy for it... and then she didn’t do much else as a solo artist. What a tragedy! She went on to continue being a background singer for legendary artists like The Rolling Stones and Tina Turner. I really wish she had the chance to put out a second album back then.

    Yasss @ the bridge! It always stuns me. What I like about her upper register is that she has so much control there. You can clearly hear her enunciate the last part all the way through all the octaves and back down: “how can I ease it?” The fact that she could do it live exactly like that was crazy! I did tell you she was as good as Whitney or Mariah. The live version from Tokyo is even better. You really get to see her performance skills and she sings this with more passion. Lisa is still alive and performing here around my native Brooklyn on occasion. I'm glad you heard me and had a chance to hear Lisa who IMHO is the most underrated singer of her generation. Range, control, timbre (a prettier and richer timbre than Mariah IMO), sensuality, and the ability to sell out and make you feel her emotions behind the lyric. Again, do the live performance from Tokyo, Japan and you'll see she is an incredible performer as well.

    Yes young man lisa is the truth to me the chorus is the back of the lead singer as well the music. Have anyone suggested Minnie Riperton she is the mother of whistling who is well known to started that style. Her soft voice high octave ranges. With her unfortunate timely death she passed away 40 yrs ago of cancer at age 30. But she had influenced mariah carey and host of others. Minnie is legendary very sensual passionate deep i love her. You should start with "Inside my love".

    A little bit about Ms. Fischer...
    She was part of that Oscar-winning documentary, "20 feet from Stardom."
    She did have her flash in the pan album - "So Intense," which included her rendition of "Wildflower," with the one and ONLY Luther backing HER up.
    She decided to be comfortable where she was at (i.e., behind stuff), and that was totally cool. STILL love her voice, though.
    (Apologies if this has been already mentioned.)

  • @alanking3726

    Told you bruh from the start of your channel that this is one of the dopest R&B songs ever made hahaha. It was a Grammy well deserved. As far as other songs, her other hit was called Save Me. She did one album, which is incredible (it's called So Intense), but she wasn't really a fan of the spotlight. She started as a backup singer, and after the album, she went back to being a backup singer. She has been a backup singer for Luther vandross, the rolling stones, sting, Chaka Khan, Tina Turner, you name it. She's still singing, and she still has that same incredible voice all these years later.
    Like everybody else has said, her 1992 live performance in Tokyo is phenomenal, I'd say it outshines the record version as well (tough call there).

    I heard this song back in the day and was blown away. She eased my pain. She has incredible range. This song is the only one I witnessed to win a tie at the Grammy Awards that year. She was tied with a song by Patti LaBelle that year. So weird to see two artists sharing a win like that. Also chances are Jack you’ve heard her in nearly all the backgrounds of Luther Vandross songs. She was his backup singer.
