Right up their with Roger Waters/Pink Floyd. Both tried to wake up the masses to what is really going on. Most seemed not interested. Why they are in the big ruling class created life and death mess they are today!
When I first heard this song I thought it would easily be a number one hit. It was maddening how little play it got on radio and I could only guess that it had to do with it's length, over 9 minutes long or maybe it had to do with his break from Supertramp. Either way, the cheap bastard that I am, I went and bought the album so I could listen to it over and over again. a few years ago I searched again for a live version but once again there mysteriously wasn't one. In my opinion, this song was vastly underrated.
I’m glad someone is still creating and playing this kind of music. It has meaning. It’s not all about the shit modern songs are about. And, here’s the big part, it’s using REAL INSTRUMENTS!! Not just some midi drums or garage band or something like that!
I agree with you,but Bohemian Rhapsody is a long track too and was a huge successful.I think had a dream(sleeping with the enemy) has all ingredients for a great hit but sometimes promoters not work right, anyway the fabulous videoclip also seems missing, and I ´m trying to get with good image since I lost it 35years ago form my vhs record.Where could I get?.Here is not good quality
If you listen, Roger was right! American forces only fought two needed wars..The revolution and world War 2..lots of wisdom from this track..The kicker is , he is Actually British!
Man he's still got it. Eye of the Storm is the greatest album Supertramp NEVER made! Nothing they released after Roger left even comes close. It is full of magic and the closer, Only Because of You, is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. This one's right up there too. 😁
Saw Roger in Clearwater, Florida. We drove nine hours for the show. He did a quiz of who'd traveled the farthest... of course, there was someone from 'across the pond' who beat us out.... though I'm sure they weren't expressly there to see him, as we were. One of my fondest memories; a great show!
Grandi Supertramp fantastic. From Calabria nord pollino Italy un abbraccio gaetano .
When i first heard that great song i though it was a new Supertramp song. Well... official it wasnt but technically It was! because for me, Roger is the sole of Supertramp.
This, is greatness. Roger is a beautiful soul indeed. The dislikes must have come from Rick Davies (before anyone gets upset, Rick's awesome too). I was sixteen and living in South Florida when Roger's 1st solo effort arrived back in '83, later it inspired me to write a rather lengthy letter to him at his studio (I was still learning guitar and piano then). Just a sincere thank you for the album, and his previous works. I received a Christmas card from him that year, and it meant the world to me.
S. J. Rich ..... Roger’s humanity shines like a beacon in the night. His Christmas card (to you) is a living testament to his heart, head, and humanity. Lovely man.
This is musicianship of supreme quality, to my sensitivities. An outstanding performance of an amazing song. I remember watching the video on Mtv and falling in love with this particular gem of Rogers’ genius.
Wow,wow, wow!! I didn't know this long version! He is a fantastic guitar player, and we can see how he is enjoying himself, and have a look at how he's comunicating his fun to the band...Very great moment!
I'm from Argentina and I listened this music for the first time at eleven..and this album was the first cassette I bought in my life!!! Now I'm almost 46 and feel the same magic. Love you Roger, you are great :)
This amazing man has made my smile, his music has had me cry, has filled me with the purest of joy, he’s embarrass the hell out of me at stop lights with me belting out his music while in my car. He just affirms my music choice that I live in a time when our music still lives beyond lifetimes of those that I grew up with. Supertramp was my first ever concert...paid $10 dollars front and center... millennials, please make music that is as fresh, full of love, happiness and something that will spark memories later in life as this music has and still does. Cheers all.
I love the hell out of this song. The only time I first heard it was in a bar in Fremont Wisconsin. Was on the jukebox,,,played both sides. Will never forget. Got to be Rogers greatest tune. Never heard it on radio play.
I’m so glad I had a chance to meet this man in Santa Ana California in a parking lot where the most friendliest person I have ever met actually saw Super tram in the 70s two nights in a row at the forum I will never forget it when the greatest fans no way they were the greatest band ever saw Roger is brilliant a beautiful human being thank you my friends
Listen to this and listen to the original Supertramp and you quickly realize how much of Supertramp was because of Roger Hodgson. Incredible writer, vocalist, and musician.
I had the pleasure, no, the honour to see Supertramp live in Sydney Australia during the 'Crisis, What Crisis' tour. I was amazed then at the quality and entertainment value of their live performance. I was also fortunate many years later to see Roger Hodgson live in this band configuration and in a much smaller, more intimate theatre. Each song was introduced by Roger with the background to the story, then they blew us away with an impeccable performance, just like these videos. A very pleasant and lasting memory.
Roger so glad you are still performing. Lucky enough to have seen you as solotramp 7 times. Imagine that this came off your first solo album. One of my favs to ski to.
It's amazing enjoy this great song Roger Hodgson in Live, I love feeling like him, he is able to transmit the great energy to all of us with this fantastic song.
Heck of a song. That line about handing Mary a photograph of all he had seen is such a smokin line. All my favorite songs are deeply rooted in the mystery teachings.
I lOvE this TuNe!!! Love Roger's guitar playing! Love that its over 7 mins long, love that I can keep up the words (not sing every other word) loL! I wish I knew Rogers meaning behind the song. . . Love how everyone in the band seems to really enjoy preforming it!! i've played 10x over today . . . i never get sick of listening to it!
I love to see Roger in his shows, they are so powerful as this song is. So awesome to see him with so wide open smile and playing his electric guitar. He is really happy, and his audience too. I wish he played more songs with it. Sometimes I think he is one of the most underrated guitar players in the world. C'mon Roger, show all your potential, handle more often your e-guitar.
absolutely amazing!!! just attended River Rock Casino resort to see the show and it left my hairs standing up on my neck. once in a lifetime opportunity to see a legend
I love the energy of this song what a great version. It just goes to shows that the sound of Supertramp was the sound of Roger Hodgson. He's performing this live on his 2018 world tour coming to a country near you :)
Have loved this song since 1985, the very first time Missy Delk brought it into the skating rink and it was played for the backward skate. INSTANT perpetual love and even though it is over 30 years old, it is TIMELESS and I don't even turn it down when listening to it in the car. Windows down, volume clear up and me singing along! GREAT MUSIC deserves to be shared!!! Thanks for this AMAZING song, Mr. Hodgson!!!
Ke ilusión, ke mayores estamos. Nunca se olvidan estas canciones. Y menos a Roger!! Su voz es especial!! Gracias!! Desde Canarias, nunca sera olvidado!!
Never heard this song before, omg it is one of my favorites, these guys are so goooood it pleases me so to see how much fun they are having with their wonderful talent.Thank you.
Roger, PLEASE come back to the Midwest USA, we MISS YOU. Can't wait to hear your inspirational songs again this Spring 2018! We saw you a few times this 2017 and every show was more special than the first! Happy Thanksgiving!
I loved the video for this song the images at the time where so raw and unreal, I had this on a cassette, back in the day and burned it up, that was pre internet, then I couldn't find it again, it was many years later when the web hit and music became a big part of it that I found The album again, I still listen to this whole album and sing along to every song on it, it was and is, for me such a powerful album, every song is so good, Thank you Mr. Hodgson for bringing me back to my younger days when I listen to this.
One of the most amazing souls on earth. My childhood was much like his in Chicago. On my own at age nine and wrote 200 songs from the pain of it. Only I am not Roger Hodgson. RCA wanted to sign me but I didn`t for the very reason Roger spent time with his family. I seldom saw my father and I didn`t want get caught up in that life style.I want to see him play with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.
I heard this song one time on the radio in the mid 80's when I was on a road trip with my cousins to the Twin Cities. I didn't know who was singing it or the song title; but I knew I liked it and thought I'd hear it on the radio again; I never did. However for some reason I never forgot about it in all these 36 years I always remembered I once like a song that had the line "sleeping with the enemy" in it. When you tube came along I searched for it but all that came up was the Julia Roberts movie until this last search and behold THIS IS IT!! After 36 years this is that song I never could quite forget.
¡¡¡Excelente show!!! Excelentes músicos todos!!! Imperdible!!! Gracias Roger!
Roger is so underrated as a guitarist. Sheer wizardry, and a good reason why he should be up there on the high echelon with such luminaries as David Gilmour, Steve Hackett, Mike Rutherford, James "JY" Young, Alex Lifeson, Tommy Shaw, and Todd Rundgren.
He has a very twangy way with his guitar, underrated guitarist for sure. For some reason my generation doesn't even know him. They listen to Floyd, Yes, Rush, Genesis and the like but no Tramp/Hodgson :(
In my opinion, he is also underrated as a musician/composer, Supertramp was not much taken as a "serious" band. My favourite Roger solo is in Just another nervous wreck (Breakfast in America). I also like the Goodbye Stranger coda. A perfect match to Davies, another underrated musician enormous ly talented.
Great energy! :o) Brilliant performance - and as Bezz80 said here, Roger truly is "on fire"! Hearing Roger live in concert on electric is a thrilling experience. Can't wait to see him on tour this year (and I just love those colorful carpets!)
Recuerdos!! Ke vallan, ojala a tu país, no te arrepentirás!! Suerte!! He visto vídeos!!
Gracias Angela.
There are musicians, there are great musicians, there are master musicians, then there is Rodger Hodgson, a genius musician.!!!!!
He is definitely a musical genius!!
Right up their with Roger Waters/Pink Floyd. Both tried to wake up the masses to what is really going on. Most seemed not interested. Why they are in the big ruling class created life and death mess they are today!
This should have 500 million views!

Eye of the Storm in general is underrated. Although it is a bit too 80s for some people I think. I Had A Dream doesn't have that 80's feel though.
eu viajo com esses caras.

Amazing You would never know that Roger just turned 68 and his voice still sounds as great today as it did 40 years ago
I never realized how good a guitar player Roger is... Very impressive musician!!!
You do not know how much your music is good for my brain. thanks Roger
One of my rock and roll dreams came true! (Here it is.)
If you listen, Roger was right! American forces only fought two needed wars..The revolution and world War 2..lots of wisdom from this track..The kicker is , he is Actually British!

This is one of those good songs, well arranged, well composed, very harmonious! Which you never get sick of! Applauses, Roger!
One of best top guitar players.in the world. The.piece he did at the end of Goodbye Stranger was amazing

Beautiful song. Thanks, very much.
Saw him doing this live on this tour..phenomenal..should be mentioned with the greats of all time. No brainer
Grandi Supertramp fantastic. From Calabria nord pollino Italy un abbraccio gaetano .
Timing, precision, vocals, everything is insane in this performance! Amazing!
Just when you thought a Roger Hodgson song could not match anything he wrote and sang with Supertramp. This is just pure genius and perfection.
When i first heard that great song i though it was a new Supertramp song. Well... official it wasnt but technically It was! because for me, Roger is the sole of Supertramp.
Roger IS(!) the sole of Supertramp; this is not just an opinion, that's a fact!

S. J. Rich ..... Roger’s humanity shines like a beacon in the night. His Christmas card (to you) is a living testament to his heart, head, and humanity. Lovely man.
Super Super tramp..fantastic Mr. Roger. Beautiful song...,,

Rick Davies did have his moments too. Apart from that, you're bloody well right.
It's unbelievable yeah! More from the solo stuff PLEASE! Now back for a replay of this Ultra Gem of a way beyond just a song!!!
Is there anything he can't do? One of the most overlooked musicians.

I heard this song one time on the radio in the mid 80's when I was on a road trip with my cousins to the Twin Cities. I didn't know who was singing it or the song title; but I knew I liked it and thought I'd hear it on the radio again; I never did. However for some reason I never forgot about it in all these 36 years I always remembered I once like a song that had the line "sleeping with the enemy" in it. ich liebe seine Mukke
He sounds phenomenal !!!!

¡¡¡Excelente show!!! Excelentes músicos todos!!! Imperdible!!! Gracias Roger!
Great performance ! So nice to hear this title in live !!
I absolutely agree with you! Besides, he's a great multi-instrumentalist. He plays keyboards, guitar, bass, drums and sings!
agree entirely. He is indeed a living legend. Just how good can one person be.
Rogers a great singer songwriter but no top guitarist which im sure he'll agree
Great energy! :o) Brilliant performance - and as Bezz80 said here, Roger truly is "on fire"! Hearing Roger live in concert on electric is a thrilling experience. Can't wait to see him on tour this year (and I just love those colorful carpets!)
So glad I had a chance to see him more than five times I feel blessed he always made us feel great God bless Roger and his band brilliant
This is such a great song ! I remember the video back in the early 80s on MTV Back in the day
Adoro ver Roger tocar guitarra!....essa musica é minha preferida HAD A DREAM....
absolutely superb!

I loved the original video back in the day. Always thought it was one of his most powerful songs and way underrated.
