I bought this kit and found your post while looking for tips to use it. I just want to note that mine came with one pair of scissors, not two, and they worked great. The wool isn't wound up very well and is inconsistent in width, but product was entirely usable. From good advice in other videos I decided to use a few drops of peppermint oil (which mice hate) and silicone caulk to bind up rolls of stainless wool and encourage it to stay in place. The suspected point of entry is the bottom of the corner trim molding where vinyl siding meets. Rodents go up the corner molding into the attic, down the walls into the house.
Just being fire marshal Bill here... Steel Wool is flammable... for example, around a steel vent or piping system, all you need is a conductor short, a tiny spark and you have a fire. Have you given the Stainless Steel Wool the flame/spark test? Take a regular 9volt battery (the type with both contacts on one end) touch those ends to the steel and see what happens? Hopefully nothing... BUT the alternative could be bad.
The kit installation instructions actually raise that issue explicitly and warn to never use it around wiring or electrical installations. I decided not to mention it in the video, but stainless steel is conductive (although not as much as copper or aluminum) so you're right to bring it up. If I ever do another video specifically about how to install it I will mention that, and add an annotation to this one where I talk about places you might want to use it. Thanks for the catch, Fredrick!
MousetrapGenius No worries... I did the burn test myself.. the stainless steel wire "wool" doesn't respond anywhere near as readily to arcing and sparking as does the high iron content brillo pads. Some people ground wiring (particularly in older homes) to iron and steel plumbing. That's why I thought of it as a point of concern.. but it's not such a big deal after all.
+Frederick Dunn I realised steel wool is flammable the hard way...I use the 0000 guage, in stained glass soldering and was using a Gas soldering iron that caught a tallow tainted small bit of steel wool that was nearby...[used for cleaning tallow off lead] and it flared like a firelighter. Since then, I dispose of used steel wool immediately in a glass jar, and keep the fresh way out of the way of the flame.but never realised steel wool in coarse grades was flammable.
Hi folks if you have gaps between floorsand skirting board you can put that bendable wire they use in railway fences. Also that metal they use for corners when plastering walls. Just ideas
Very interesting video. I did not know they made a special steel wool for doing this. I have used regular, but like you say after a period of time you have to reapply it again. Thank you for the tip.
I'm concerned about metal on metal - if i put this up against metal pipes, what happens. Also for weep holes I understand they need to breath and mesh gets clogged or is restrictive of airflow. For weep holes I'm going with this - www.ridofmice.net stainless steel weep hole covers. for other cracks I like this pest plug.
i dont mean to be so off topic but does anyone know of a method to get back into an instagram account? I stupidly lost the password. I would appreciate any help you can give me
@Khalid Flynn I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and I'm in the hacking process now. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Great soundtrack, I watched till the end just for the soundtrack! :) I see there is a link to iTunes but I could not find this exact soundtrack, is it somewhere to buy?
Im a very jumpy person and cant get to sleep at the slightest of things and we have a tiny field mouse in our 3 story house, I cant get rid of it at all, tried bait, even went as far as mouse poison but it just eats it, leaves a mess in my kitchen then lives to tell the tale. Any suggestions? I can hear it in the wall running around in the wall and it freaks me out!

Frederick Dunn Still a good concern. Thanks for sharing!

That's a good cautionary story... most people don't think of "steel" as flammable... I'm glad you shared that.
So thoughtful of a steel wool company to adapt their product to that kind of stuff!
That's what we thought too!
@@mousetrapgenius727 What about the rust problem. DId I miss how they solved that?

Seems to be just what I was looking for. Gonna look for it locally.
Also steel wool rusts and if you stuff it in you siding or holes in outside expect to see the rust marks. Use copper mesh instead.
How do you know, from experience?

You're very welcome :)
i recommend copper instead and also you must seal the entire structure or it will not work

Why won't they design small robots that goes and captured the mice and bring them out of the attic house where ever they are?
You should have shown how to actually use it in spaces around the room & where holes are like radiator. Why did you not do that?
Thank you, would this in ceiling tile holes?

He’s right! I just installed some last night. Great stuff.
Is it just me, or does this guy look amd sound like Nicholas Cage's little brother?. Good vid, btw...
Sounds like him too.
I was thinking he looks and sounds like the character from Chicago Fire, Herman. Might be a clan sort of thing?

Get more out of the steel wool if you pull it apart and fluff it up
I have mice in loft and coarse steel wool is better to seal holes and they won't chew it through.?
What do suggest to put on or in downspout gutter ends?
Thanks for the review! I think I'll be using some in my house!
Thanks for watching :)
It's not a review if you haven't used it. I was looking for a demo too.
Same here. This is an unboxing video, not a real "how to" as the title says.
Very helpful.
Is that your mattress behind you?! Lol
😭
where could get it
So no mask needed to work with steel wool?
not only are these videos very useful but you're also super cute! keep up the good work :)
:)
If I had scorpions in my house, I would quit my job and move north.
Where can u buy this

Rianne Pimblett what did you do about it
My friend gave me a little nipper mouse trap. I used chocolate. Not humane but it is quick.
Poison should work... get a pro in?
Nice background music.
Great idea

Stop them entering the home like he's saying. Getting them out is much harder!
I swear after using this steel wool, they have either learned how to navigate around it or evolved. It does not work anymore :(
You didn't say fine or coarse steel wool for mice? That was a basic requirement. Jeez!!!
Also do you need a chisel to fill in fine spaces at the bottom of the skirt boards of walls?
You do claim to be a genius.
thanks man
Im not even remotely interested in a humane way to kill a mouse or rat i despise them.
This is an ad.
I guess it worked cause I’m looking to get it. Lol.
I’ll use your affiliate link on Amazon. Thanks.
Great idea, but in fairness....8 mins to demonstrate this?? I'm giving it a thumbs down on click-bait grounds.
What a title picture it amazing love nice so cute lucky this video really old
I'm replying to myself

Steel wool and broken glass seal up all the holes in your house.
Why not mix with poison
aqua moor what does broken glass do!
