  • A first look at the proposed downtown stadium design and urban neighbourhood precinct in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland by our design alliance partners HKS. Buchan is proud to be working with HKS on this Auckland city-shaping project.
We are honoured to be supporting NZ Rugby and Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei develop a vision for the Te Tōangaroa land at Quay Park in Auckland, including a new purpose-built rectangular pitch stadium to provide the All Blacks, the NZ Warriors, Auckland Blues and the new Auckland FC franchise with a world class home that celebrates the very best of Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland and Aotearoa New Zealand.
Led by Cenfield MXD Limited, the consortium has brought together heavy weights in the global and local sports industry to help turn this vision into a reality.
More than a 'downtown stadium' that activates the eastern approach to Auckland's CBD, the proposed design captures the regeneration of an entire industrial neighbourhood precinct into a revitalised destination that provides genuine activation, economic and employment activity on non-event days.
With internationally renowned sports architects HKS leading the design, the proposal reflects a deep dialogue on placemaking and culture in collaboration with partners Buchan, TOA Architects, Boffa Miskell, Aurecon, Robert Bird Group, Barker & Associates and Turner & Townsend.

I feel the stadiums need to be equal size. It really bugs me seeing that one stand thats significantly smaller than the others.

What's this gonna cost a casual $20 billion? Also looks to utilise alien engineering techniques, not sure how those gravity defying stadium stands will be supported, unobtanium?
I mean it looks amazing, but I'd love to see a realistic cost estimate with someone reputable willing to put their name on it. I'd also be very interested to see the structural engineering proposed.
At the moment they're living in the land of make believe.

This might be a private project, not to do with government or council but i'm not sure

This will never go ahead! They’ll see eden park 2.0 as a cheaper option!

For two or three All Blacks matches a year. Or they could get another NRL team and have both playing there plus a soccer team if the A-League doesn't die before it gets past the proposal stage.

If we can get overseas investment then yes! if not then just improve eden park capaciity

But there's no point in improving it if the infrastructure around it can't handle the extra capacity.
That's why many people are pushing for the waterfront option, because of it's central location and access to superior public transport options.
Constantly improving eden park is just going to cost council more in the long run.

Absolutely ridiculous, we can't even fill Eden Park more than twice a year.

The pitch is too long, if it’s because they are catering for possible future NFL games as said by one of the designers then thats crap. Some of the best stadiums in the world are close to the action, and let’s face it beside concerts the only sport/team that would pack it out is the All Blacks.

Blackcaps suffer from this. They are sell out with big teams like India, Aussie and England but pity they don’t get a new stadium. High time we get world class stadiums. However the main purpose for this for Auckland city football club under A-league. The billionaire Bill Foley is investing a lot on it wanting the push for derby culture here. I sense that could push football to new heights as NZ looks to be a regular at fifa World Cup going ahead. All Blacks sells are for sure but some super rugby matches could also do as well. Hoping they finally allow some matches such as the Māori vs Indigenous Rugby league matches to come to Auckland now as well. Can’t see much of NRL games there though.

Terrible design. Think of how the fans see the game for once. This doesn’t even have a proper roof
