I don’t think I have a special eye, and don’t sell books but I was thrifting at a store where all hard covers were 1.50 found some that looked pretty like small encyclopedias, and the pages were gold tipped . The War Reports collectors edition three volume set. Look like they had never been opened. It turns out people love WWII and pretty books. I made made a couple hundred dollars. I’m following you because that was fun and maybe books are not so bad.
For A Time to Kill, the Wynwood press that has A Tale of Retribution on the bottom, is the really valuable one. $1000 or more. Great video - I spend some of my down time doing just this. Trying to figure out what to look for. Thanks for sharing!
Sold a first edition of The Stand on auction. Had a dust jacket that was intact but in rough shape. Binding was a little loose but got close to $200 for it. Condition is everything as you said.
Very good video, Shane. I, like you, tend to look for non-fiction and don't spend much time looking at fiction. Have sold a few over the years though. I've found that even BCE will sell for good money if it is a popular book and author. I need to start looking for these as well.
Just happened to me twice over the last 48 hours. Was at a library book sale that is super cheap when it comes to fiction lots because I suspect they want to put away the least amount as possible. Bought a couple of fiction series I’d never heard of and did really well. A lot of 3 sold for $15 and another lot of 16 just sold for $70. Another book that was a duplicate sold for $12. Got another lot for sale, paperback reader lot of 40 that should do well. Not bad for a $10 investment. There was next to nothing for non fiction so this sale was like 90% fiction. Had to take what the sale gave me!
*Any* edition of The Bachman Books goes for silly money these days, even paperbacks. Reason is of course it contains Rage, which has been out of print for 25 years. Edit: Actually, there are some UK editions of The Bachman Books without Rage, that are not worth much.
Another interesting research video that translates across here in the UK. Aren’t Stephen King’s paperbacks in special editions and those with coloured spines worth looking out for. Kind regards.
I find more King 1STed than I do Patterson, Cussler, etc. Had a copy of Titanic that was a bit worn. $1 to $35 though. Same applies to VC Andrews and Daniel Steel early editions. Both authors fon will be in a cursive-like on the spine - that narrows the eyeballing down a lot.
Thanks for this! I’ve been meaning to make a list of modern fiction from popular authors to keep an eye out for. You’ve got me off to a good start. I’m a bit surprised that you didn’t cover any Sci-Fi authors . I thought that was your jam.
You are right! That is my jam! I did the video a few weeks ago on how to use sold comps on eBay and I used sci-fi, so i went general fiction! A video on learning science fiction authors for resell would be a good one!
I tried selling a number of newer hardcover lots of these in great conditions, like a Cussler lot, thriller lot, legal thriller lot, all with 8-12 books, and I couldn't even get any views, so I gave up and donated them to the library.
I keep checking my email regarding purchasing a sample box from you for a paperback. I would like to purchase a case from your Amazon store but I would like to purchase a sample before I buy a case that may not be the correct size. The email was sent to you 10/24th I think. Thanks.

Seeing a book that's rare in my personal collection and not knowing it's ridiculously expensive...faint. thank you for the video!

Absolutely love this video man! Thanks!
Awesome episode (as always), Shane!
Mike (Used Book Guy) and you are full of great info. It'd be cool to see you guys on a joint episode!
There's so much Non Fiction Paperbacks that are amazing too!
Too true! Just scratched the surface in this video!

I always look at The Stand when I see it in the wild!

Nice! Great advice there- gotta take why the sale gives you!
Thanks for the info.
Thank you!!

Those King books are good. They can go for $30-40 regularly. I will say that I don’t see them very often in the wild.
Instead of JD Robb you should have looked for her other books as Nora Roberts. Also some of Elsie Lee's books go for bigger money.

Great video! How do you know if its a first edition? Does it say in the first couple pages? Thanks!
All books are good if people enjoy reading them, even comic books.

Good input. I think there are soooo many of these fiction lots it is tough. I think key, early 1st editions are the way for me.
Do you have an individual or professional selling account on Amazon?
Professional-

Sorry- I saw that email and I don’t sell cases of boxes. I just have the product link of what I use.
Charitable to say James Patterson "writes" anything.
Hahaha. Very true for a long time.
