Those Child Ballads volumes are a fantastic find, especially for $1.25 for the entire set. Dover Publications put out a lot of great reprints. I still have one of their catalogues from the 1980s and found in the past few years the fairly expensive Shakespeare Lexicon and Ernest Weekley sets I've been wanting from it from library book sales. I'd have snapped up that Child set in an instant. Never pass up cheap Dover books!
When I lived in Tampa, there were tons of little towns around and about Tampa. One time, in Mulberry, FL, they had a book sale with 8 for $1 and they were all brand new books, which, usually, I'd rather have used books, but there were a lot of science fiction and other saleable books. I spent $440! Which means I brought home $440 worth of books or 3520. At the time, I was still working and physically able to list all those books. Big day in the Branscome household! :) I have a friend who lives in Alexandria, VA. I had a great time visiting her. She took me to the wall, THREE different places to eat. Dinner at one place, dessert at another place, yet another place for a drink and snacks. I especially loved going to the Mall and seeing the Wall and the Korean monument with all the soldiers. The BEST! The blue AA books are always a good sale. Bread and Butter books. $15 all day long. Plus, it's a book that helps people, so that's all good. 17:32 Would you believe that I still get people asking me to send them a book list of all my books I have to sell? No, mind you, I have, last count, around 20,,000 books in my house. And the most recent person who asked asked me to send her a list of all my books because she might want to buy a book for her sister for her birthday. ONE BOOK and she wanted me to type out 20,000 books. I understand that not everyone sells books or knows the time it takes to type out 20,000 books, but it seems like anyone should know if they ask someone to type out 20,000 ANYTHING because you MIGHT want to buy ONE book.....I dunno. Then she asked me why I didn't have them all listed on Ebay. Well I keep my book list on EBay to around 250 because Ebay allows you 250 items for free to list and anything above that is 35 cents a month. So if I had 20,000 books listed and 250 are free to list, listing 20,000 would cost $6915.50 per month for fees. And I know this woman. If she sees a book for $10 that she would like to get for her sister's present, she would say, "Now, what's MY price? Since I'm buying it off you and not Ebay, you can sell it to me for $1, okay?" Oy vey. And I'm disabled. Can you imagine how much time it would take to list 20,000 books, taking pics, writing out descriptions, etc? I have a neighbor who is building a library in his house and he said he could use a bunch of books just to fill up the shelves and I told him to come get anywhere from 1-10,000 free of charge just to get them out of my house! I hope he does because I could sell a lot more stuff if I just had the ROOM to WORK in here. And this dude would be welcome to as many books as he wants for free because he's a great neighbor and keeps an eye out on my dog when I have to leave him to go run an errand. (My dog can't be left inside because he will destroy it, so he has a kennel under one side of my 2-car carport.) If I'm at home, he stays in the house and doesn't destroy anything as long as I'm there, but if he can't see me, he will break a window in my house to get out and come and look for me. He has the worst separation anxiety of any dog on the planet, bar none. Thankfully I'm with him almost 24/7, but I have to go to the post office, the doctor, Dollar General. The post office is only 2 blocks from my house, so I will get home and tell my dog, "I was only gone for 10 minutes!" and he will say, "I know! It was forever!" Pseudonym is correct!
Love from Orillia, Ontario, Canada. I’m an eye picker. My personal opinion. I’ve seen the scanner pickers and they can keep their junk. I just inherited a collection of vintage motorcycle repair manuals, owners manuals, picture books, magazines, news letters and brochures. BMW, Ducati, Norton, Royal Enfield. $$$
I think you are right on with '$$$' on the motorcycle items- I always jump on any motorcycle book with BMW, Ducati, Indian, BSA, etc. Great items! Good luck!
Always learn from and enjoy your videos! Thank you. I’m doing better with my book finding and selling. Your words come back to me when I’m looking. “Train your eye.”
Thanks Shane for sharing your thoughts on why you bought what you bought. That really does help those of us who are new to reselling and are wanting to specialize in books and in my case books and ephemera. It's so hard to go to a book sale like the one you went to and not get overwhelmed. I appreciate your knowledge. Love your channel!
Thanks for the channel support! Sales like this are overwhelming for me too- I know for someone newer to the game it would be worse. You just have to pick your spot and go for it! I hope you are finding great book treasures!
Great video and haul Shane. We have a 25 cent paperback and 50 cent hardcover at a library in the fall up here. Got to get in line early and have a plan once the doors open. Got to scan with the eye the first lap around and make quick decisions for sure. It’s grab and go and if you guess wrong, oh well. Yeah, the science fiction tables go quick…
I’ve learned so much from your channel, and I’ve made some great book purchases because of it. I’ve always sold on eBay. How do you decide when to sell a book on Amazon or eBay? Do you have a video on how to sell on Amazon?
Hi! I have a video someone on the channel discussing how I decide where to sell. I basically look at price potential and how fast it might flip on both. I do FBA so I want my Amazon books to turn faster. Sometimes the price potential on Amazon is significantly more than eBay- even with larger fees. Also- older or non UPC coded books typically go to eBay. That’s it in a nutshell. I haven’t done a specific how to sell on Amazon. The best guy for that is Mike The Used Book Guy. I have his channel link on my TH-cam page. He is way more knowledgeable on Amazon.

$16.00 very well spent ! Good job, Shane !
I’m a vintage booth owner - I pick 99% of my book inventory by eye. I’ve always loved books & they are my favorite item to source & resell!

Wow! Just wow
@@gregfogg1522 Yeah, believe it or not, I have a sign about my laptop that says "Brevity." Brevity is not my forte.

Great picks for twenty-five cents and I always love the Sci-fi.
The Sci-Fi area always gets hit hard and fast- they had three 8' tables filled. You start on table 1 and just take what you can get!
Getting ready to go into outpatient surgery. I enjoy listening to you.
I hope all went well and you are too!
Good Morning Shane, this is my favorite style of video from you, and I love longer videos. Love your perspective on picking and pricing 🫶🏻
Thanks for the feedback and for the channel support!
As someone who is trying to get into book selling, your videos have been the most helpful!
As someone who has been selling books since 1978, yeah, 46 years ago, he teaches me more than anyone on TH-cam.
Good morning, excellent news. Love a good book sale.

I always enjoy your book hunts. I am in Rockville, MD which is just outside of Wash DC and close to Alexandria, VA. I hope our area treated you right.
I had to go a bit south of you- Suitland area. It was a nice trip- always love the area!

Always gotta have a plan!
I found and am selling a copy of the Racing Car Chassis book down here in New Zealand! First time I have seen you with a book I have also come across.
That is very cool! Hopefully we both have great sales!

do you ever come across any Congressional Directories? My son likes to read and study them.
