Roys Peak - Wanaka New Zealand: Kinda Difficult Hike

  • If you're hiking Roys Peak near Wanaka in New Zealand, you should know the track difficulty can be moderate to high if not done in winter or early for sunrise.
This is because the hike doesn't have much shade, so if you don't start early, or are hiking in the summer, it's going to be hot. We found this out the hard way, but certainly don't regret the climb - the views from atop are astounding and worth the effort.
Hope you enjoyed the video and it was helpful!

Is good to be hiking up by some of those tracks before sunrise and catch it rising in the the morning.

Haha at least this one wasn’t as rough as that other one. But that sun does look brutal. Cute video yet again. Looking forward to more.

"There's no shade on this trail" right after he throws some shade at Maggie for stopping for photos, lol

Jimmy, you stated in your Vlog at 4:52, that it is hard to explain in an objective way "why we hike." This is why we hike, climb, aspire to mountain summits:
“You cannot stay on the summit forever; you have to come down again. So why bother in the first place? Just this: What is above knows what is below, but what is below does not know what is above. One climbs, one sees. One descends, one sees no longer, but one has seen. There is an art of conducting oneself in the lower regions by the memory of what one saw higher up. When one can no longer see, one can at least still know.”

Ahhh that is so good!! Going to memorize this one (I have a weird habit of memorizing quotes that I think are impactful) 😁

What a gorgeous hike. That water was so pretty. There are SO many sheep in NZ. Maybe you'll get to see the Border Collies at work herding the sheep? Thanks for sharing!

I think you should stop every time you see a sheep. Boom. It’s the truth. 🐑

It was the I don’t trust her on hikes for me. My partner conned me to climb Hallasan in Jeju on our first overseas trip planned and now because of this video I guess we are climbing Roy’s Peak . I’m going to regret this🥹 stay tuned for more trauma
