    My CanoScan LiDE 200 which I was able to use on my old MacBook Pro doesn't show up as a new device to install on my new MacBook Air which operates wirelessly. I'm assuming my scanner, that I'm having to connect to new laptop via USB-C adapter, isn't wireless compatible. When plugged in no indicator shows that my new laptop has scanner plugged-in. I was able to install scanner on old Mac as there was an integral DVD slot that took scanner install disc ~ new laptops don't have DVD facilities anymore.

      Check for a downloadable driver on Canon's support site. That's a pretty old scanner and there may not be a current driver available; but try opening Preview and using File > Import from Canoscan xxx > Scan. Might work.

      @@computersdotmom Thank you ~ It looks like my 'older' though still perfectly serviceable scanner for my new laptop I'm told is "Unfortunately your device is no longer supported under the selected operating system." Such is the throwaway nature of purposely defunctionated peripherals by computer and other software manufacturers. I'm forced to buy a new functioning scanner for my new computer.

    • @computersdotmom
      @computersdotmom  ปีที่แล้ว

      Try using the preview trick first. Just because it’s not officially supported doesn’t mean it’s not possible. It just means that they won’t help. 😁

    I had a printer already connected but would not print so I deleted it then did this but the “use” section when trying to add the printer does not auto select nor work when I manually select this option. Any idea on how to work around this? If I manually search then I get like 50 options and stoped after the first 10 didn’t work. Thank you!

    • @computersdotmom
      @computersdotmom  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Best guess: If the printer is not showing up in the "Add" window automatically, it's probably not connected to the network and you need to fix that on the printer.

    My printer came up in the list when I clicked add. But did add to the list of printers after. Any idea?

      Restart the computer and see if it shows up. If not, restart computer & printer, try again.

    I have the hp color laserjet m283lfp (I believe) and Secured Airprint will return an error, Airprint takes about an hour before an error, both devices are connected on the same WiFi network, I even tried installing the HP software (which doesn't help), I'm really frustrated right now...

      I have seen this happen when there’s a firewall blocking access . If you are running security software on your computer or network, try turning it off temporarily and see if you can connect to the printer. Alternatively, if you have another computer on the network, see if it can connect to the printer.

    Follow the steps but it doesn't pop up in the box , I don't see the printer ..

      Most likely, your printer is not connected to the same network as the computer. Check the network connection on the printer and the Mac.

    what to do if software that the printer needs to connect isn't available with apple?

    • @computersdotmom

      Try the printer manufacturers website for a driver, but not every printer works with every version of the Mac operating system.

    How do I physically connect the printer? Or do I have to buy a new printer?

    • @computersdotmom
      @computersdotmom  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      With a cable, unless it’s wireless. One end goes into the printer, the other into a port on your computer, so the exact type of cable depends on your computer.

      Not one simple answer, but try rebooting both the computer and the printer, or deleting and re adding the printer.
