Great stuff! When my pup isn't responding I have learned from Beckman to say out loud "WE WILL DO THIS ALL DAY LONG." Sometimes I 'backtrack' over the same portion of sidewalk four and five times and I never make it around the block- and that's okay. By the time we are done he is 'loose leash' and attentive to me.

@@hostwithchloe According to Beckman, your dog is entering “adolescence” stage of craziness. Just be patient and stick to the program of Beckman’s teachings. A big game changer for me with my Rottie was using a gentle leader. They are less then $20. I followed the directions that came with the leader how to introduce your dog to it. Once she was used to it, I started walking her with it. What I did since my dog is big, I also hooked her leash to both the gentle leader ring and her collar ring (I learned that watching a Cesar Milan video) and it worked like a charm. Wishing you the best of luck! The key is being patient and consistent. I’m far from an owner like Beckman but I’m a lot better bc of his trainings.

I cheated. My malinois is a bomb dog, so the military made my "aggressive" dog trained for me. Lol. I like to adopt military dogs because i dont like the idea that some of those dogs serve our species, and then get completely disregarded by our ridiculously lead system. They are veterans too, and we shouldn't just turn our backs on them. Like my rocky dog. His handler became terminal, and couldn't care for him. He was in awful living conditions because the nurses treated him like crap. When my roommate saw the horrid conditions she brought him home, and then ended up being my best friend. Now i want to adopt all military doggy veterans

I wish more than anything that I wasn’t so damn soft when my dog was younger. “Positive only” training tricked me into never really giving my dog a stern NO, and so everything was taking as a joke, it seems, for my dog. Of course, it’s largely my fault-I was so reluctant to anything but “positive”, and I realize now there needs to be more balance. Love this channel.

Don't be so hard on yourself. It is never too late to change your training method. I adopted a 7-year old husky (he had basic training and was well behaved). Recall, walking on a leash wasn't great and he wasn't socialised very much. 6 months later and with the help of Joel's video he is walking off-leash and getting along with all the dogs at the dog park.
You can be disciplined and positive. If you ask for a sit, follow through when they sit. When they do sit, be positive and reinforce it with praise or treat. If you ask for sit and they lay down, do not praise or acknowledge, keep going until they are sitting. You can do it :)

I had to stop taking my dog there a long time ago. She loved it when she was younger, hit puberty, flipped a switch. She wasn't mine during her prime socialization period so I suspect she was a bit undersocialized, but it didn't help that I just...didn't know what to do. She's territorial of me to boot, so while she isn't always reactive, that can totally change if the other dog breaks one of her random rules about me, or doorways, or tight spaces... She's 8 now, so I just manage her exposure for the most part. I don't have a "Prince" nearby acting like a total angel to work her through this, and there's no guarantee she would hate Prince anyway. She's only medium horrible 😅

Love this. My wife got a dog when I first met her and was an amateur dog owner, she bought a husky German shepherd mix. The dog was not bad just severely babied and aloud to do whatever it wanted and never got corrected because it was “mean” to do that. Then I began corrections and following these training videos and it was night and day difference. I feel as if you need to look at dogs as kids and you have to train them both what is right or wrong just with a different process and 9 times out of 10 the bad kid in school is never disiplined or corrected while the professional kid had strict but fair parents. That’s the key strict but fair.

I like your style. I also like the fact that you know all dogs have their own personality (you need to be tougher on some than others). The 100% positive training group needs to learn that they are dealing with canines. I believe in positive reinforcement vocals (also treats when training) when my dog does acceptable behavior (that has been previously taught). I never hesitate to let my pooch have a correction, vocal and leash when he does something unacceptable. Again, they're canines responding to the alpha leader...they need and desire this leadership. I don't see any cruelty in what you're doing.

    • @samuelcousins7229
      @samuelcousins7229 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

Alpha theory has been disproven. This treats the surface level behavior but exasperates the underlying problem. Dogs associate. This dog is associating Prince with leash pops. This is surface level training which is worse than an aggressive dog because now the dog is still aggressive, but it hides it. That's dangerous.

First off want to say, thank you! I've been watching positive reinforcements videos for 3 months to prepare
me for a puppy. They didn't help with a damn thing. It was like a parent who coddled her kid, their end result will always be a spoiled brat.
I watched your videos for a day(started yesterday) and it's like I've had my puppy (5 month old Border Collie x Great Pyrenees so she will get big) for a year of training when I've only had her for a month.
Everything you taught has resonated with me and the type of discipline I want my puppy to have(she will be a reflection of me, so she can have her puppy fun, but she needs to be calm and assertive as an end result.)
I have some questions for anyone who reads these comments if they're able to answer of even if you are able to do a video on them.
1.) After she meets someone(she either sits or lays doen) the whole walk afterwards she tries to jump at every other person. How do I stop this?
2.) She gets the zoomies when we're about to get close to the house and starts running wild, how do I stop this as well.
3.) She walks on my right side when she doesn't like a person or a dog instead of staying on my left and being confidant. Should I make her stay on my left or let her go to my right as a way to show her I'll protect her(I will protect her either way, but, it's big dogs who are trying to walk up to her who look aggressive/small dogs with attitude problems/people wearing masks and dark clothing that she steers away from) is it an age thing as well? She doesn't bark back at any of thr dogs, she just looks at them and walks away.

And also the attitude of “I will wait all day right here” until they comply. It’s surprising how fast it works. I use a combo of this and treats. I have a Shepard Husky mix who likes to use his body to force what he wants. I can finally after 2 months get him down off the couch position he has chosen 🤣

I don't know if you will ever read this but you helped me so much with my 2 Maremman shepherds, 1 male 4 years aggressive towards other big males
And 1 female super distracted 9 months old.
I used basically every video you have uploaded as a guide. I will say that my male is now 80% on what he can be. I just can't stop him fighting or should I say I stop him and then after few minutes he is lost again. It's a big dog (53 kg) and I'll try the knee flip, it seems legit. Thanks and I you can I will love other aggressive dog video. Greetings from Italy

With every dog I have owned for the last 45yrs, from chihuahuas to border collies, labs, and cocker spaniels, I have used letting them charge off on a loose leash with this same sharp single correction as an integral part of being in my household pack (which includes 2 cats and 2 free range guineapigs), be they puppies, mid aged adult or older rescues. The ùse of this, plus my strong command to heel at the same time, has set up a great behaved dog on leash and off, and made behavioural training in all other areas easy and productive. It also reinforces that in the pack order, their owners are alpha/top in the pack. It really works

A good thing to keep an eye on is the "hard stare" I call it. The body is usually pretty stiff and the dog basically locks it's eyes on the other dog. Some dogs will go at another dog within milliseconds of the stare. The first dog did that a few times.

This is how I can see a dog fight starting before it’s even begun. My pit bull used to do it. How do the owners not see it?
I feel like I’m the only one at the dog park sometimes and everyone else is dreaming.

What kind of muzzle do u use? And what do you think about baskervilles plus ultra, I've heard of dogs being able to bite through them. I have my rescue pitt who's aggressive towards other Male dogs, and your videos have helped me so much!

I want to know do you have any tips for two dogs that are reactive with each other? These are great tips but I would like to use them on helping me to fix the aggression between my two dogs.

I’m glad I found your videos! They’re very helpful especially after being quarantined my dogs have gone back to bad habits. We also moved from a house to an apt and they are leash reactive. Everyday is more and more progress for both myself and my dogs. Thank you!

I have a reactive dobie mix . My trainers have been using some of these techniques to tame my dog . He has made heaps of improvement in a matter of weeks. He’s still not perfect . But he is easier to control . Neighbours have noticed he’s a lot better behaved .

Thank you for this video, I have a problem with a huge dog that is great at everything but has never met a dog that didn’t attack him (while it was small, with the previous owner). Now he has a problem and attacks all the dogs he sees. males, females, even small ones. I don’t have a lot of trained dogs available like you. I only have this one. Do you have any suggestions. To introduce him to females first or to a big one like him that will make him think about chasing.

Hey Joel, great stuff as usual. If this dog tried going up the leash or at you, would you still use a side touch or just apply leash pressure up?

Informative video. I have a Maltese that when I walk on a loose leash is behind me and follows. We're made a lot of strides since I adopted him. He will now come, sit, stay and even starting on rolling over but when inside he likes to gravitate to his crate and spends most of his time there. We do not secure the door but it has become his safe place. What is the best method to get him to walk next to me?

Subbed. I have been struggling with an aggressive dog named Turbo. He does not care if I have food rewards if there is another dog. I have been able to get him to stop lunging and barking at people, but not other dogs.

Love your videos, I have a chow chow and leash correction has changed the game. Any tips of nail trimming / cutting. Positive reinforcement isn't working w/ nails

    • @Anon_E_Muss
      @Anon_E_Muss 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Take him to a groomer. I just do the nails pretty much no matter what, I only stop if the dog is thrashing to the point where it will hurt itself.
Usually they learn that struggling will not end the nail trimming session lol
Depends on the dog, but I'd try that.

My dog really isn't aggressive he's playful. And when we are on walks he's protective. We have a older rescue dog I would love for them to be social together but he's to rough with her he's a half pit/lab 8 months and strong as hell. I'll try this method.

Have you got any videos on dealing with dogs that play too rough? Not aggression but athletic and high energy confidence that needs to learn when a dog is not as keen on that play styles. Thanks!

A prong collar would work well in this situation. Such a large breed gets minimal communication(correction) through the flat collar....great video!
