Frank Rizzo so sorry to hear about the passing of your grandfather Ben. however you know where he is and I always say you can't loose something when you know where it is and how to find it. Goodnight and may God bear your grief and sorrow as he promised in his holy word during this very trying time for you and the entire Speer family. sincerely. Keith Muncy
Hey Timothy.... Your granddad was Ben Speer? Well, I am supposed to be some sort of kin folk myself through marriage. LOL One of the Speers married a Morrison sister. The Speers sang regular at our community. Home folks.
It is. Dad Speer was a legend in gospel music with his singing schools and song writing Heavens Jubullee is his most famous song. They are originally from Double Springs, in Winston County Alabama. I, as an Alabamaian am very proud to say.
@@PreservingMemories2 I KNOW I SHOULD NOT HAVE A FAVORITE IN A FAMILY GROUP, BUT, I JUST HAVE TO SAY THAT BEN WAS MY PERSONAL FAVORITE. I WAS BLESSED TO MEET HIM TWICE!
I have listened to this dozens and D O Z E N S of times over the years (always marvelled at the pianist) but today Aug 20, '18, 'Jubilee' struck me and I feel kinda dumb never to have 'felt it' before. The year of JUBILEE was when all of Israel returned to their ancestral properties!! Heavens Jubillee will be when - we - RETURN to out home, our ancestral land, where we belong. (gonna go listen again)
You are most welcome. I love them are much as you do.. I am going to a Red-Back Hymnal singing at the Gardendale First Baptist Church in Gardendale, AL this Sat. April 27, I can't wait. There were over 1300 at last years singing. Ben Speer is expected to be there this year. Come if you can.
You are blessed to be related to this wonderful family. We in Alabama like to brag that they are from Doube Springs ,AL You can also see my Dad on TH-cam, He was Edwin of the Milo Twins. Thanks for viewing and thanks for posting.
The last that I heard was that they felt strongly that would be there. That is no in stone. Never the less you would enjoy the singing greatly. I would love to get to meet you there.
I WENT TO HIGH SCHOOL WITH 2 FRIENDS NAMED SEAN AND NATHAN SPEER, AND, I GRADUATED WITH NATHAN IN 1992. I WONDER IF THEY ARE DISTANTLY RELATED TO THE ORIGINAL SPEER FAMILY.
I have been wondering, did everyone on the original Speer Family play the piano? I know ate least one of the girlsdid and I have seen Ben play. Did Mom, Dad and Brock also play?
It definitely is Ginger Smith. You hear Brock mention her name in his introduction. Rosa Nell did play for the Speer Family in the early days, but not in this video.
I am 15 years old ok I love these songs so very much and I wish more kids like me hear these songs everyday ❤
I DIDN'T GET STARTED LIKING AND WATCHING THIS KIND OF MUSIC 🎶 UNTIL 1997!
So proud to be related to these fine people. My granddad Ben Speer on the left.

I have been wondering, did everyone on the original Speer Family play the piano? I know ate least one of the girlsdid and I have seen Ben play. Did Mom, Dad and Brock also play?
Mom Speer did play piano. Brock played guitar on many records and dad Speer played mandolin and fiddle
@@keithmuncy2165 and once Rosa Nell left, Mary Tom played the piano for a while
Is that Brock's parents he's singing with here?
Fans of Bill Nye yes it is momma Lena and Dad George Thomas or G.T. Speer singing with their sons Ben and Brock. the original Speer family singers.
Who is the pianist for this song?
Ginger Smith
Think its Rosa Speer, she was family and played piano. Now she's part of the Gaither's
It definitely is Ginger Smith. You hear Brock mention her name in his introduction. Rosa Nell did play for the Speer Family in the early days, but not in this video.
Oh ok, had to watch it again to catch it
Brock looks almost identical to my grandfather
