This was great. I love that Green Chile soft rack idea. I will never install a hard rack on my EXC-F. That's like having a basket on the front of your schwinn....
Thanks for showing the pros and cons. Got some new ideas about my future set on the Beta Alp 200 from your experience, much appreciated. Günter from Nürnberg/Germany
Great review Tyler! I have the giant loop Great Basin bag it is also a great company. I really like the look of that Tusk tool bag. That magnetic part of it makes it worth the extra money to me. I hope things are going well for you. Some time before I die I would like to come join one of your rides again. I finally got my Honda CRF300L Rally that I ordered back in August. I have only had it for 4 days but I think I like it.
Great video. Thank you. You say you’ve had the bike laid down and drug around. Sounds like me! I’m strictly a single track rider up in Idaho. So I’m in somewhat technical trails. Do you think this traverse would be noticeable? Probably won’t have a lot in there. Mostly for my green chille zdrag recovery system. My lunch maybe some bear spray.
Recently purchased the Traverse! (And haven't ridden with it yet :) Glad to hear those have worked so well for you. Seemed like a great solution to carry typical dirt biking stuff and getting that weight off my back. Great feedback.
Tyler says, "Im not a very good rider" said no one ever !! You're awesome !!! Are you no longer into the Hard Tusk Pannier or the soft bag ? My biggest thing is laying it down with my 2016 KLR
I put the Tusk Traverse on my DR350 along with the Tusk Olympus tank bag mid summer. They've been awesome products so far. Hoping to get a bunch more seat time soon while using these. Perfect for dirt bikes and dual sports for day trips.
I just pur the traverse with the extra small duffel dry bag on my drz400sm this week. Glad to hear good stuff. Was a lil over $100 on amazon through rocky mountain. Awesome deal! 👍
Great video bud. I like your improvement notes. Good ideas. I will say that I have come to prefer buying Tusk products. I have had good luck with them. Much luv fella.
Hey, thanks for the review, great to see one from you again! I've been thinking about the Traverse bags for a while, this sure helps! I've been carrying my stuff on my back but its just short day rides so not so bad, but anything more than that and it would be nice to have some more capacity off my body.
Kinda a off question for ya. how are the Highland bags compared to the Excursions as far as the lower part of the bags flopping/moving around? I have a set of 18ltr Kriega bags and the lower portion of the bags have quite a bit of movement regardless of how tight you get them. I think its more of the angle of the mounting straps to the frame. EXC 500. Most my friends have the Excursion set ups, a xc350, drz400, crf450, and a bmw gs310 and they don't move at all "this set looks like its got the same type of base system" and they are rock solid. trying to avoid another disappointment.
Tyler you are 100% right about zippers especially riding in desert dust. It gets in the zipper and you either can't open or close it or just plain break that zipper. Been there done it especially if you are trying to unzip pants or get to your TP in a hurry LoL
I swapped out my Nelson Rigg tank bag and saddlebags with Tusk and so far I've been pretty happy. The Nelson Rigg stuff wasn't bad necessarily but both products had the straps' stitches tear out within a week of owning. Was pretty disappointed with that.. sewed them back on myself and they held up for another year but overall the Tusk stuff just seems a little more well thought out and durable
Rocky has a gen 2 version of the highland. Do you think the gen 2 improved a lot of what you saw on gen1? Your timing is perfect as I am going to buy some kind of bag system soon.
Hated the excursion. Absolutely hated it. Trying to stuff a loaded dry bag into the side sleeves was impossible. The dry bag sticks against the plastic liner & won't let air past. Also a blatant knock-off of the Mosko moto Reckless 80 (which doesn't suffer the same dry bag stuffing problem)
Hate them too. I’ve posted several videos of why I don’t like them. Number one reason is you can’t get dry bags in them once loaded. I chopped mine up which helped.
I’m looking at the Gpx just haven’t decided yet between the 300 or 450 for single, dual track, & adventure riding in northern Utah. Do you have any thoughts?
I was one of the guys in the rally he mentioned. Both gabe and I rode the gpx. Not sure what kind of adventure riding you would be doing but with the stock gearing on the 300, doing over 65 would scream the motor pretty good. it was doing 60 at around 7500 rpm if I recall. You can get away with a bit smaller of a rear sprocket and lower that down. I'm not sure what the gearing on the 450 is. The power output of the 300 is really close to something like a crf250x or a wr250f. Fuel consumption was similar to my 250x. Really I think it comes down to how much road riding are you going to do. I really don't think you need more power than what the 300 has to offer off road.
@@Steinerrides if you wouldn't mind another question about the gpx. I'm currently riding a 2015 ktm 690 Enduro and I'm both finding it a bit heavy and wanting to do a rally at Tyler's next year. Do you think it would be a good idea to switch to like the gpx 450 for the rally? I'm in the Colorado front range and would really need the extra power from the 450 to get to the trails. Also trying to get into single track stuff here more and thinking the gpx makes a good option for that.
@@_-frosty-_ It would be a good idea to have a lighter bike for a rally yeah. It's not quite as good as a full on purpose built dirtbike like wr/f or crf/x but it gets pretty close. It's pretty light, it rides smooth. It really is as close to a ktm as you can get for half the price. The only thing is the fuel injection isn't quite as refined and there is some QC stuff that you need to be aware of. The taillight/plate holder broke off, there just isn't enough holding it on, it should be bolted through on the end of the fender. Theres a few bolts on the handle bars that come loose. The skidplate bolt came loose and the skidplate fell off. The seat is a good dirtbike seat but it starts to suck fast on the street so you might want to change it. this is a ktm thing too though so there's that. I wouldn't hesitate to buy one for 6,000 or less if I was in the market for a new bike.
The larger one looks like a knock off Mosko reckless 80. I am all for finding cheaper solutions but I do feel bad for companies when their product designs are borrowed/stolen.
Hey @Everide quick question. I’m wanting to do a rally next spring and currently am on a ktm 690 enduro. Would it be wiser to sell the bike and get something lighter to enjoy the rally more? I’m finding myself doing more dirt and less street so not sure if I should look at something lighter or not (maybe that shiny gpx?)
Judging by the color it’s the newest year. Probably only had it for maybe a month at most. For the price GPX is pretty awesome. We’ve got a TSE 250 and it’s doing great
Gotta say I’ve never been disappointed by anything I’ve gotten from Tusk
The only complaint I've ever had out of them is that their case locks are absolutely terrible. They either freeze up or fall out when riding.
This was great. I love that Green Chile soft rack idea. I will never install a hard rack on my EXC-F. That's like having a basket on the front of your schwinn....
Appreciate the review on the luggage and heads up about the GPX. Looing forward to seeing more. 🔥💪
Very solid, thorough review. As always, glad to see you posting.

Tusk is already the only luggage I use. Their products are nice and look really good.

I bought the traverse bags last year & absolutely love having them to carry essentials….side note, now all my riding buddies have them too lol

I have the traverse saddle bags there excellent the Olympus tank bag the front and rear fender bags all tusk and all amazing!!!

Looks like best choice for the mighty KLX. Going to be an expensive Fall/Winter with setting up the KLX AND the GasGas.
I love me some Tusk! Hoping they have a good Black Friday sale so I can pick some up!
Great review. With all the camera equipment you carry , where to you put it? Also what drones are you using?
great vid, thanks Tusk rocks!
I want to know what you think of that GPX FSE 300r. Full review and stuff.
Are you using the seat concepts comfort or xl seat on the 500? I need some bags for mine too!
Yeah man more product reviews would be cool

Tyler, what mirrors are those on the bike (orange one) at 1:50?
How rigid is the Green Chili rack. Will it keep weight off of the fender?
If only i had these .... when I was travelling! Man they look perfect! There I was improvising with rafting dry bags. :-D
Great review!
Do you have any discount codes for the tusk gear?
I think the smallest bag is right for me!👍
My traverse bags don't flop around like that on my DR.
I love them, have 32 oz, water bottles on each side with room to spare.

@@wv4life375 Same. I ended up just returning them. To Rocky Mountain's credit, they did give me a full refund.

man i remember when this guy did geography stuff
Amazing mosko doesn't sue them for copying designs. It's so balantly knock-off reckless 10 40 and 80 design.
The larger one looks like a knock off Mosko reckless 80. I am all for finding cheaper solutions but I do feel bad for companies when their product designs are borrowed/stolen.
A cheap solution can also be Dog saddle bags. way cheaper tons of options.
Wait a second, did you get a GPX?! I have the Traverse bags in my GPX TSE250R.

Have the Excursion. Not a fan. Unable to stuff loaded dry bags in the holsters. Poor design with a restrictive nylon band at opening.
Review after time tested... that is something we don't see often.
SPOILER ALERT. Is that a ktm six days with the Doritos flavored graphics removed? Looking forward to the Reviews gpx vs six days head to head battle
