The annual Fish and Ships Festival is a time to remember the town’s heritage and championing those that make the area what it is today. The free festival encompasses live cookery from top local chefs to uplifting live music, street theatre and demonstrations of traditional arts and crafts.

It was definitely a beautiful day to walk to Whitby. Very nice intro with the singing. Great to have good entertainment while out enjoying the day. Cool how they show how to fillet that massive fish. Whitby must have a terrific town council or tourist board as it has so many interesting events which brings people in, great to see! The contrast between the bright sunshine to that gloomy fog was quite amazing.

This festival did look really good and its great that it celebrates Whitbys past present and future. The riverside walk looked so good and the viaduct was great to see, as was that steam train. Whitby looked so beautiful even in the fog but it was very atmospheric and worked for the day 😃 Everyone looked like they enjoyed it and that group that sang about the dtamatic rescue in the 1800s made me think about what a great job the lifeboat people do, risking their lives to help people, veryb thought provoking. What a change of temperature you had so quickly ! Looked like a really interesting festival ~ Anna ❤ 🛳

Isn't Mother Nature amazing, that clear blue sky and summery look- and just a mile down the road a fog befitting any sailor's tale of woe. Lovely walk I agree. My style. I don't park close to anywhere if I can help it. The walk is a bonus. Love the Whitby Song. Love the 'heritage' typ weekends. So much history and the information often sticks better than having read it in a book. I can only imagine the cold - such a pity but glad you went to the Whitby Day so I could visit it too. Love people who dress to impress regardless 🤣! Most enjoyable including the Fish and Chips. Glad you thawed out before you left to go home. Thanks for sharing this fun day. 😎🎶🙋♀🥝

I love the Fish and Ships name, what a great bit of PR and what a glorious day for it too - well, until you got to Whitby that is, that mist is following you about :o(. Loved the yellow gorse and it was not as bad as I initially feared in Whitby with the mist but given the Ruswarp weather, bad enough. I remember taking my (now 17 year old) grandson on the pirate boat trip 12 years ago on a red hot day and we had a brilliant day in Whitby, both wearing bandanas and both having (toy) pirate swords - great fun! The toy ships were brilliant and talk about fresh fish, right out of the sea and straight on the plate - yum! Despite the inclement weather a sure fire like no.15, as it made me want to go to Whitby ASAP! Just looked at the weather forecast and the next sunny day is Monday 3rd of June :o(. Cheers Alan

I’m surprised we haven’t caught the worst cold ever with these videos 😂 next sunny day the 3rd of June? this year is the worst weather wise ever. but yes Whitby you cant beat it. its the pirate festival in August and the regatta. steampunk in july. all worth visiting but to be fair you never need an excuse to visit Whitby. it gets under your sun with every visit. that song about Whitby had us both right over. brought a tear to both of our eyes, lucky for Jill she was wearing sunglasses, I looked like a right mug filming and weeping! 😂😂

Hi Nick and Jill Whitby is so amazing so many great events to enjoy. The walk into Whitby was great especially getting to see the steam train on the way. What a contrast in the weather you wouldn't believe it . We did get a sneak peak of Nick when we caught a sight of you filming on Whitby Wanderers video earlier in the week 😆 at lockers fish. That was a really big fish wasn't it. This looks a fantastic and varied event. Bet it was nice to get back in the sun 🌞 we liked the song about Whitby too. A very big 👍 from us. it does seem that way. wherever we go, the fog will follow. by a miracle of sorts we have got out hiking on five different days to bring the best of the sunshine. as of this week (late May) we finally got five days of sunshine. hiking video inbound 😱
Ah, lovely Whitby!!! The weather isn’t quite as good as when we met up with you. Loving Jill’s wave over Nick’s shoulder haha. Fish and ships…excellent…ooh, can only think of chips now!!! Loving the steam train, great shot!! Distant fog, not good. Can’t even see the abbey behind the pirates. Love the story teller, looks like someone we know. That fog is getting crazy! Those boat costumes are fab, blimey those fish are a fair size!! Looks like a great event and well attended. We just love those streets in Whitby, would love to go again. A bit of Rolling Stones, the band are cool. Guns n’ Roses did a cool cover of Sympathy of the Devil. Yey, sunshine now you’ve left haha. Really enjoyed that both, fab as always!!!! 🍻

Jill teared up too but she had sunglasses on. pro move by Jill that! 😂 the fog has been a real pain now for three weeks. the North East Coast is absolutely frightening but go a mile inland and its lovely. we’ve even had to rethink all our plans just to stay warm! I’m sure you’re having much better weather. Spain in a fortnight is going to be insanely hot for us after all this fog!

Always enjoy great local festivals!! Pretty awesome stuff!! Been having plenty of fog lately in our area too...pretty humid along with it. Now there's one great halibut being filleted...plenty good for fish and chips for sure! it was an awesome day...and just like in Halifax, just get up from the harbour and the fog will disappear! Make sure to have yourselves a fabulous weekend now!

Top parking tip - Never thought to park in Ruswarp - nice walk into town … We never went to Fish n Ships festival when we lived there …Don’t remember it being a thing .. Looks great fun… As if you need another excuse to visit Whitby! What the story about monster fish at Whitby isn’t true!! They’ll be saying there’s no Father Christmas next. People dressed as Pirates somehow always bring a smile .. Never fails ..Another fun day in Whitby - Thank you Guys … Your videos always take us back to some of our favourite haunts !

love that film, a Jamie Lee Curtis classic! Strangely Whitby doesnt have a fog horn but we have one here in Scarborough. it’s been foggy all night and day here and it goes off about twice a minute. its a lovely sound but I remember it scaring me as a child!

Loved the video and the opening song will definitely stick in my head. I can't believe that fog either, you can see how Bram Stoker was inspired. I'm off to Whitby later this year and I was planning to drive so I will definitely try your walk, that seems way better than navigating all the late summer season traffic. I was all excited until I noticed it said Ships with an S!!! But I'll still watch. However, I'll just say again that I really want F&C and D&B in Whitby with J&N!
yes yes yes! although i do know the Magpie is held in the highest regard in almost all of the country. having eaten there several times I can say its not deserved, locally at least. they seem to prep WAY more than come through the door. what you get is batter stuck to fish that has been standing under a lamp and chips that have had to be cooked two or three times because they prepped too many.
Great video and a good tip for parking. Lovely walk along the Esk and the railway. I used to be in a shanty group in Staffordshire. Probably can't get much further from the sea than here 😂 Have a good weekend

We always seem to end up in Whitby when there isn't anything on, not that it's a problem as it's fantastic anytime. I think I'll have to try parking at Ruswarp next time, it cost me £8 to park last visit. Great video, guys.
£8 yikes! the Council are rotters, they keep putting the parking up. it is a lovely flat walk in from Ruswarp (they have free toilets there too which other than inside the Pavilion you won’t find in Whitby). I usually find I can get lucky on even the busiest days at the back of the West Cliff with all day free parking at ///latches.founders.seabirds or (if really busy) at ///combos.estimates.peanut

@@GENerationXplorers I've always known it as Haar, but I suppose I've heard it described as that on the Northumberland and East coast of Scotland 🤔.

whitby really is a wonder of events isn't? great opening on this one. loved the song with the opening shots. found myself wanting to clap along. but ya still snuck in your theme at the gate. the train was super cool. ever ridden it? the boat people were arrrrgreat! ok, what is the medal hanging around nick's neck for a bit? it disappeared later, kind of like the scenery in the fog. 🤭 glad you were able to warm up after the foggy chill. have a great week, you two! 🛴❤
Aaww Anne we love you! ❤️ another great comment and good spot! I got Nick a red ribboned press pass with our TH-cam logo on but we lost it and the only other thing we own is a red ribbon medal with our logo on but he got annoyed with it part way through and removed it 😂 very observant 👍😘

That's good to know thank you. We only stayed there a few hours then went up to the Weston and used there free parking permit.
"Your wallets be safe" that's exactly what someone who was going to take your wallet would say LoL Lots of good music. That fog would have been cool at the goth festival, but it looks like all festivals maybe goth festivals in Whitby. What a difference a little distance makes.
