To be honest, it was not till I started watching this series of videos I had (Rome apart) ever considered Italy as a holiday destination at all. I would now love to visit the Italian Lakes as they seem to offer so much, with a great combination of scenery, history and culinary delights. Pizza and wine overlooking a lakeside view like that, would also see us giving it a 10 out of 10 too. Never tried an Airbnb before but looks like you stuck luck there, great views at an reasonable price. I always worry about stopping half way up a mountain for a break, food and a drink with a view like that, I would be happy just to stop and enjoy the views....and the drink....and the food! Ah thank you Alan, it’s such a wonderful place. I mean they have the luxurious world class hotels with their own restaurants and garden spaces, some with their own private jetties onto the Lake where you can be served drinks all day at a world class price to match. I couldn’t and wouldn’t rub shoulders there even if I had the disposable funds to do so. But outside of that is a wealth of restaurants and accommodations to suit every budget (ours is honestly very modest). After five years of exploring the length and breadth of Spain and finding it not quite as reasonable as I’d imagined it was a breath of fresh air to visit Italy, which like yourself had never really fancied to find out that you can visit on a budget, have great accommodation (both places cheaper than Travelodge in the UK and there are millions of options) and then dine out for so cheap. The Rifugios are so rewarding and a couple of mountains on both Lakes have other means of reaching the summit, if you’re happy with cable cars. Supermarkets? Wine starting at €1 and Spirits starting at €4. Id be happy staying in the accommodation and watching the views at that price.. hope you had an awesome vacation and have been loving the snaps! 👍

A great video guys, that certainly wets my appetite for another visit to Italy. Both of these Lakes and their stunning surroundings certainly look worth me exploring in the future. I might just stay away from that bucket lift though. It certainly looks like it makes it easier having a car out there.
This was brilliant, what a fantastic idea for a video. I loved all the fabulous shots of the mountains ... and those rest stops... wow ... but also the lakes and the fooooood. Italy is a great place to visit but I do get frustrated when people list Rome, Venice, Florence as the places that are 'must see' and then you can leave. There's so much more! So it's terrific that you are giving an alternative, skip the big cities and head for the countryside, I love Lake Como and I've been going there for years. Having now watched some videos on Lake Maggiore and Lake Garda I think it's time to expand my horizons a little! You also pointed out how certain towns on Lake Como are suffering badly from too many visitors, and perhaps the other lakes are an option for a nicer Italian lakeside holiday. (I would also recommend just across the border from Como, Lake Lugano is nice, just at Switzerland prices!)

ah thank you Watto. just had to renew my passport. £100! apparently the passports are made in Poland now, thats Brexit at full force for us. so cheap in Italy now. id say €60 to €80 a night accommodation and €20 a day for your car hire. I’m struggling to find a basic Travelodge for that in the UK now. so expensive here..

Italy!!! Love it - pizza pasta and ice cream are the 3 main staples of your diet, our kinda country!! Both lakes are stunning. Oo como wins on the Ichnusa beer!! Both accommodations are stunning. Yep we like you climbing mountain, we'll watch and eat pizza. We can't call a winner this one - both are beautiful - we're probably team Maggiore, only because w couldn't afford com9. I think it’s dawning on me (finally) that we are probably the only people that visit these Lakes to predominately climb mountains! it’s no wonder our holiday vids never do well! 😂 there are enough great places to chill by the lake at a reasonable cost and a couple of mountains on both lakes you could get to the top without climbing! both places are really reasonable tbh, with Airbnb even beating the likes of some nights stay at a Travelodge in the UK!

I honestly think you could flip a coin on which one of these lakes to visit, they're both great and you can't really go wrong! Hi there Matt, thank you so much 🙏 Probably having a year off Italy this year. We really want to return to Asturias in Northern Spain and see how much it has changed over the last five years. Other possibilities are Germany, somewhere new in Austria or Banff in Canada although we doubt we could wrangle enough time off to make the last one viable. Wherever we go we will miss the Italian cuisine though!

Guys you would love the Italian Lakes! Lake Como is our favourite people think it costs loads of money and is expensive but we book everything separately and can do it really reasonably (compared) to English prices! the only down side is leaving boo at home 😕 should be easier and cheaper for fur babies to holiday ! have a lovely weekend! have we got you on IG? have a super weekend ❤️

thank you Kelly, we stayed in an Airbnb just north of Menagio in a place called Acquaseria, it’s called AnMa Cottages Sole Lago, we have actually stayed there four times, id highly recommend it. short walk from some great restaurants and a great base to explore the Lake.

Both lakes are gorgeous. We haven't been to either but about 25 years ago we stay on lake garda - at Riva de garda. Top spot. Middle of winter and there was no-one there. We stayed at the Grand Hotel Riva for a pittance - a fraction of the summertime rate. I think we were the only people there except for the caretakers family. With a bit of luck we hope to be heading to Europe next year - probably cheaper places like Greece, Albania, Bulgaria or something, but we do want to duck into Italy. These videos of yours aren't doing much to dissuade us. 🤣
it’s such an amazing place. you guys would love it, with a bit of money I’d do a couple of nights of 6 star hotel luxury and then slum it with a week of the most amazing budget Airbnb on the planet. Thats a real bit of us ♥️

Love the filming work and just generally how you've done the comparison of the two. Both are beautiful from car, completely agree that it's a great way to explore! Again after watching both your maggiore and como videos I think for me Como hits the spot, those views over the castle are NEXT LEVEL. Yes yes yes,one of our all time favourite County Tops and scenic destinations with our very favourite TH-camrs.. bring on the Boros brown hills and grey skies! Just remember those thermals, might get down to a feels like -6C. Thinking Spain and my lovely Picos De Europa will beckon this year, it has a place in our hearts, been likened to the English Lakes by the couple of people that have ever ventured there. Unassuming, unfriendly, unwelcoming but a real piece of us.

Renting a car to get around, definitely sounds like a good idea. You got much more freedom to get around, when you're not using the bus or train. Wow, you found some amazing places to eat with great view over the lake. Stunning views from the mountains, I love how far you can see.

Loved the opening scenes guys, sooo lovely and it was good how you filmed the two places in split screen to compare easily and see the difference. I love the architecture of Italy and the thought of pasta and pizza, though Alf is not jeen on both foods ! 😃 The mounains and lakes are so beautiful and this was good to see. I have never been but my dads favourite was Lake Como. Good to see Como as you drove through and when you sat at the lake there and the church there was so beautiful as you walked in. Loved the view of Lake Como from the castle. I can see why you said you like staying in the Alps, its really gorgeous. This was brilliant, what a fantastic idea for a video. I loved all the fabulous shots of the mountains ... and those rest stops... wow ... but also the lakes and the fooooood. You looked to get some great accommodation too. Only problem now is, I'm left e thinking I want to visit both haha ... maybe one day ! 😀xx

Italy is a great place to visit but I do get frustrated when people list Rome, Venice, Florence as the places that are 'must see' and then you can leave. There's so much more! So it's terrific that you are giving an alternative, skip the big cities and head for the countryside, I love Lake Como and I've been going there for years. Having now watched some videos on Lake Maggiore and Lake Garda I think it's time to expand my horizons a little! You also pointed out how certain towns on Lake Como are suffering badly from too many visitors, and perhaps the other lakes are an option for a nicer Italian lakeside holiday. (I would also recommend just across the border from Como, Lake Lugano is nice, just at Switzerland prices!)

ah thank you Watto. just had to renew my passport. £100! apparently the passports are made in Poland now, thats Brexit at full force for us. so cheap in Italy now. id say €60 to €80 a night accommodation and €20 a day for your car hire. I’m struggling to find a basic Travelodge for that in the UK now. so expensive here..

Italy!!! Love it - pizza pasta and ice cream are the 3 main staples of your diet, our kinda country!! Both lakes are stunning. Oo como wins on the Ichnusa beer!! Both accommodations are stunning. Yep we like you climbing mountain, we'll watch and eat pizza. We can't call a winner this one - both are beautiful - we're probably team Maggiore, only because w couldn't afford com9. hi there guys. I think it’s dawning on me (finally) that we are probably the only people that visit these Lakes to predominately climb mountains! it’s no wonder our holiday vids never do well! 😂 there are enough great places to chill by the lake at a reasonable cost and a couple of mountains on both lakes you could get to the top without climbing! both places are really reasonable tbh, with Airbnb even beating the likes of some nights stay at a Travelodge in the UK!
Nice comparison video, folks. Mrs Out and About with Andy wanted to know if the mountains had cable cars (she doesn't like cable cars but likes hiking even less!)

I honestly think you could flip a coin on which one of these lakes to visit, they're both great and you can't really go wrong! Well, maybe if you don't like crowds and end up in Bellagio 😂 great narration Nick and well presented. Watching some of the throwback footage made me feel a little nostalgic! Hi there Matt, thank you so much 🙏 Probably having a year off Italy this year. We really want to return to Asturias in Northern Spain and see how much it has changed over the last five years. Other possibilities are Germany, somewhere new in Austria or Banff in Canada although we doubt we could wrangle enough time off to make the last one viable. Wherever we go we will miss the Italian cuisine though!

Guys you would love the Italian Lakes! Lake Como is our favourite people think it costs loads of money and is expensive but we book everything separately and can do it really reasonably (compared) to English prices! the only down side is leaving boo at home 😕 should be easier and cheaper for fur babies to holiday ! have a lovely weekend! have we got you on IG? have a super weekend ❤️

thank you Kelly, we stayed in an Airbnb just north of Menagio in a place called Acquaseria, it’s called AnMa Cottages Sole Lago, we have actually stayed there four times, id highly recommend it. short walk from some great restaurants and a great base to explore the Lake.

Both lakes are gorgeous. We haven't been to either but about 25 years ago we stay on lake garda - at Riva de garda. Top spot. Middle of winter and there was no-one there. We stayed at the Grand Hotel Riva for a pittance - a fraction of the summertime rate. I think we were the only people there except for the caretakers family.
With a bit of luck we hope to be heading to Europe next year - probably cheaper places like Greece, Albania, Bulgaria or something, but we do want to duck into Italy. These videos of yours aren't doing much to dissuade us. 🤣

Yes yes yes,one of our all time favourite County Tops and scenic destinations with our very favourite TH-camrs.. bring on the Boros brown hills and grey skies! Just remember those thermals, might get down to a feels like -6C. Thinking Spain and my lovely Picos De Europa will beckon this year, it has a place in our hearts, been likened to the English Lakes by the couple of people that have ever ventured there. Unassuming, unfriendly, unwelcoming but a real piece of us.
I'd go for either, as long as its just a tad bit warmer than it has been around here lately! lol Amazing scenes everywhere!! What a great comparison!! Well done!!

What a beautiful film, totally enchanting except I feel I’ve seen much of this before on previous GEN X films? However, I watched with great excitement as your film transported me away from the misery of my hovel. Yes I can honestly say you have brightened up my Friday evening. Renting a car to get around, definitely sounds like a good idea. You got much more freedom to get around, when you're not using the bus or train. Wow, you found some amazing places to eat with great view over the lake. Stunning views from the mountains, I love how far you can see.

Loved the opening scenes guys, sooo lovely and it was good how you filmed the two places in split screen to compare easily and see the difference. I love the architecture of Italy and the thought of pasta and pizza, though Alf is not jeen on both foods ! 😃 The mounains and lakes are so beautiful and this was good to see. I have never been but my dads favourite was Lake Como. Good to see Como as you drove through and when you sat at the lake there and the church there was so beautiful as you walked in. Loved the view of Lake Como from the castle. I can see why you said you like staying in the Alps, its really gorgeous. After seeing the two, both are quite similar and stunning but I agree with my dad and would choose Lake Como 🙂Great footage 👍~ Anna
