I am cruising across the USA at the wheel of my 1973 Espada… AC on, stereo on at 95mph (gotta keep up wit the big rigs), relaxed smile on my face. Then, along came Jones and I’m tooling along in reality… 2009 Camry hybrid. But, hey it is paid for and doesn’t break.
Harry, you’re such an inspiration for all of us. The passion you have for analogue cars (and we all love them) is second to none. I am planning a road trip to France and Italy in my Jaguar and that’s your fault! ;-)
Love the rear view mirror tucked away horizontally..typically Italian"Whats behind doesnt matter" well done Harry for using these machines,,I have a Ducati 916 23 years old 65000 miles still enjoying still fast
as a child i have fond memories of my uncles Espada back in the early 70's, and trying to find the fog light switch! in the French Alps one terrible night, great sounding engines,
Top notch video from Harry again: 3.09 'There's a lovely elastic feel about the brakes...as the tyres get closer to their limits of adhesion'... Pure Genius
Thanks for reminding me of this video, I did that one yonks ago! Old cars are way friendlier at the outer limits of adhesion, so different to today's cars..
Another absolutely fantastic video Harry! The front end reminds me of a shark gliding through the water, with a soundtrack of a 60’s movie! Thank you so much for all your time and effort in producing these films.
you all probably dont give a damn but does anybody know of a tool to log back into an Instagram account?? I stupidly lost the account password. I would love any assistance you can give me.
Lamborghini didn't get enough credit during the '60s and '70s. Starting with the 350GT, they built some beautiful 12 cylinder cars. And the espada is a perfect example of it. It's a shame it never got the recognition it deserved.
@@Heatfarmer why do you say that? I think that who has a passion for hustoric cars should be a fanboy like that, just enjoy good cars, not ONE brand cars.
@@ale16_69 Thats exactly what I say, unfortunately many fans of british cars and Ferrari fanboys don't recognize that THIS italian brand designed and built the most beautiful, usable and reliable super cars in 1965-75. Instead they see Lamborghini as a threat to their own preoccupied opinions. The only "Ferrari" that you can drive daily like a Lamborghini from this period is the Fiat Dino, with the possible exception of the 330. The rest are just too unreliable. They got it right with the 308. And the british cars, possibly the V12 jags come close, but the e-type and the DBs are still late 50's design in most ways and look painfully old by comparison.
I think the Espada looks absolutely fantastic. There was one in a shop window near my old apartment. I always made a detour to admire it when getting coffee.
saw that espada teardown , wow, what a strong, over built , well engineered engine.. strait forward, none of the italian silliness one would expect or lubrication issues.. lokked like a robust race engine built for reliability, no worn internals, 4 bolt main caps, no bearing wear, turns out they make great engines, probably superior to a jag v12 in many ways.. (dohc, partial gear drive, double cam chain, lubed cam lobes, huge oil pump, thing of beauty..
Congratulations Harry on your videos. It is heartening to see the project 7, I completed my apprenticeship with Jaguar in the early/mid seventies when things were pretty dire under the BL fiasco. Quality was a problem but the engineering always shone through with the likes of Norman Dewis, Peter Taylor and Jim Randall just to mention a few. The ride and handling was the yardstick even then. John Paterson
While cruising on I-5 in Oregon in the U.S. one of these passed me, painted a metallic brown. A couple were out for a spin and looked as though they were thoroughly enjoying the Espada.
Parked behind one of these on the Ferry to classic Le Mans last year - quite alien-looking in the metal - really outlandish. The owner refused to switch it off for the customs inspection arguing that a) it might not re-start from warm, and b) there was a good chance of a few litres of petrol being sprayed out while he turned it over. They let him through. On the run down, my MGC (a breathless, lardy beast) was not only as fast, but more stable, easier to drive and apparently more comfortable. So interesting to see Harry hacking down the Route Nap at a stately 55-65 mph tops... Great vid.
A truly wonderfull car Harry. Classic Italian supercars just have something about them. Mordern ones as good as they are just don`t excite me. Love they videos👍
Exactly the road we were on in September whence just around the village of Castellane my Mini Cooper Convertible suffered a front right side tyre blowout on its RFT. No Spare! No luck. But we did get to drive about and enjoy this road! Heck. this was a wonderful drive indeed. Next time I shall rent a more powerful sports car for this drive.
Oh man! Like the Italian Job (original) and Matt Monroe’s Anthem. Man oh Man! I’m always listening to that song when on a road trip in a nice car in Europe. (Sadly never such nice cars as those in Harry’s Garage...)
I know what you mean about the looks - The chrome trims and details around the fittings and fixtures date it as a classic, but take a step back and somehow it looks futuristic in a Jetson-ish kinda way. Oddball it is, then, but It's probably my second favourite Lambo after the Miura - Countach and onward just look too....well, what's the word?, I don't know, but I'd be happy to go driving round in an Espada or Miura, whereas I think I'd feel embarrassed, conspicuous, and perhaps a little foolish in anything from the Countach onward - perhaps I just don't have enough style! Moot point, since I also don't have enough money.
Ing. Paolo Stanzani, said that the espada was the car that cost him the most and gave him satisfaction. A complex project, Ferruccio wanted a fast car, four comfortable seats, with great road holding. He added, confirming the success of the project, that hardly anyone who owned an espada was separated from it. Right Harry?
Thanks once again for the unique experience, Harry ! I would like very much to see you reviewing an also iconic '73 911 2.7 RS on this great channel of yours. Also loved your 930 review 😊👌 Top contents. Keep the good work. Cheers !
i love this car. as rowan atkinson once said, old cars have a certain floppyness to them.. they are so much more enjoyable to drive compared to modern cars, i think modern cars are fun, but you need to be above the speed limit in most cases, driving old cars on a good bit of road is incomparable to just about everything in life
Rowan mentioned the floppyness to a specific car, not all old cars in general, I believe he said that in an episode of top gear about an american car. I don't think Rowan would concider this Espada to be floppy.
What a cool drive. That engine sounds glorious! Could you take a Benelli Sei up the Napoleon one day Harry, please! The only thing that could match that sound!
every time i find a rare and obscure classic car and i think i have found the egg of Columbus, there is always a Harry's garage and usually also a Tyrell's workshop video about it
6:40. We almost had the Italian Job there. That’s a reference to the original film The Italian Job. It starts with a guy whipping they the Italian alps in a Lamborghini and he crashed into a giant bulldozer.
Everytime l watch one of Harry's Espada video l start looking at Bring A Trailer, Ebay, Auto Trader etc. I love Italian GT cars. My "back seaters" include a 350 GT (with a later 3.9 V-12), 72 Ferrari 365 GTC, 89 Ferrari 412 which just passes 100k miles. I would love to find a Jamara but am now finding the Espada more and more appealing. Do l need another vintage ltalian GT? If you've ever spent hours on end cruising effortlessly beyond 100 mph stirring a manual shifter while listening to that V-12 growl yes! Of course l need another one!
Incredible journey. I'd love to have a crack at this one day. Harry with regards to engine noise, do you not get deafened by the constant level of noise? All be it a beautiful note.
Hello harry I love your Espada videos and have watched them several times. I was wondering if you could answer a question though. The 0-100 time has been quoted as less than 7 second to over 8 seconds. One review quoted it at 6.5 seconds. What do you think it is?
425i The official factory 0-100 time is 6.9secs, which sounds about right. Remember, early S1 Espadas were rated at 325bhp, only when the S2 arrived did the power go up to 350bhp. That, and the fact some S3 came with an auto transmission, is the most likely explanation for the variation in quoted times..
wow!!! so we share one car in our garage!! the MiTo! :D hope you have the 1.4TB as I do, so you can have as much fun as I do :) Btw, risking to be repetitive, great video...very interesting. thank you
I think Espadas are just wonderful, especially the weird parts. (I do think whoever ordered one in bright red was really missing the point, though.) :) I do tend to like different Lamborghinis than most, though. Like, Urracos. :)
We have nice twisties like that in New Zealand, only trouble is they are patrolled so heavily by our police who do not have a sense of humor if you travel over 100kph, god I miss the 80's before speed cameras and radar guns
It's for rev-matching when you downshift under braking: (usually in a turn,) essentially while the pad of your foot is on the brake, you goose the throttle with your heel as you let the clutch back out so your engine's delivering the power right as you accelerate out, etc. In newer cars, boys (who have bigger feet than I do) can often hit both pedals at once with the broad part of their feet, but older style brakes and controls generally needed more force. :)

My favourite Lamborghini of all! Stunning, unusual looks. Espana is just stunning styling on wheels.
Great upload.
D Lamb I absolutely agree. I’d love to own one at some point

I never get tired of that V12 soundtrack
Harry...i could almost hear Matt Monroe singing "On days like these" on the hill climb section...🙂

In Italy it did. The Miura is up there with the 250 GT California, in my opinion.
They got all the credit from everybody except the british and the Ferrari fans.
Its the most beautiful car!!

4 years later, this, along with the Countach and Testarossa road trips are essential repeat viewings
I love Espadas there is nothing like it, that engine sound and sheer pull of it, pure style
Oh my god what a car what a sound what a road and just wowie. Italian cars, Italian roads. My lord I just cannot get enough of this kind of dream...
I love these road trips from Harry that pop up in my recommended from time to time👍🇬🇧
Really enjoying all your videos Harry, especially when you cover the old timer! Keep them coming please. Thanks
Thanks Harry for giving us mere mortals the thrill of the ride. Your (sharing) enthusiasm is infectious.
More of these road trip videos please! I've watched this and the ones in the Testarossa several times, inspiring stuff!
Wonderful car and roads. Love the glass roof. Many years ago drove around this area in a rented Alfa.
While cruising on I-5 in Oregon in the U.S. one of these passed me, painted a metallic brown. A couple were out for a spin and looked as though they were thoroughly enjoying the Espada.
May I just say how much I love your videos. Please keep them coming!

Never been a fan of the looks of the Espada but I've loved this trip report. And the sound of that engine....
The future never caught up with the Espada. Its still way beyond. Best looking concept car ever, IMHO.
Parked behind one of these on the Ferry to classic Le Mans last year - quite alien-looking in the metal - really outlandish. Such a classic clip now, I keep coming back to it.
Great vid, Like going on a drive with a friend
Beautiful: design, interior, V12 engine and sound.
Great video! And, I thought I was the only one who likes to play the Max Acceleration Game away from Peage Stations....LOL!

Great review as always, espada my favourite 70’s car. Thanks from Aussie
You must have gone thru a lot of fuel going around those mountain passes. But totally worth every penny I bet. Great vid Harry 👍🥃🇦🇺
lambo espada and a panerai on your wrist your living my dreams harry...
A nice Italian car and nice Italien watch. Lambo and Panerai are pretty iconic designs, fine.
I love the look of it . It’s one of those cars you like or you don’t. I like
Really like the interiour of the car. The exteriour, not so much, but that's not a problem while driving the car.

Wow. Fantastic video of a fantastic car on a fantastic road!
"Almost had the italian job there" hahahaha
It never gets old.
A real car enthousiast speaking, love it!
The one dislike on this video is probably from the driver of that little blue microcar.
I know what you mean about the looks - The chrome trims and details around the fittings and fixtures date it as a classic, but take a step back and somehow it looks futuristic in a Jetson-ish kinda way.

actually the espada has very nice seats, look modern
What a wonderful car, and practical too.
Ahhh.... be still my beating heart! Now is the soul ravished. Is it not strange that bits of metal can move a man's soul?

1000miles with a skewy radio would drive me mad. A beautiful thing though.
It just sounds utterly addictive during gear changes, as the clutch re-engages.....

Love the sound of that V12 engine
The best 4 seater sports car ever.
Ferrari FF and Ferrari Lusso is this same idea. This idea GT is better than SUV.

Harry...perfect watch and strap for a drive like this - could you say what it is?
Great.
just brutal, thanks!
How does this compare to the urraco?
Pretty sure the tires took a serious beating by the time this trip was done. Great way to kill some rubber!
awesome
Vents like my modern a45 amg thats cool
I know the Espada has Marmite styling but it's beautiful to me
Set the video to play at 1.5x speed and it looks manic. Hahaha
Can the Espada actually fit 4 people?
Yes, comfortably too.
I'd say more than comfortably. Its made for hispeed CxO transports. Look at the backseats :)
But can it accommodate 14 bottles of champagne an an outboard motor?? lol
Must have fixed that radio by now ,right
PMSL @ the tone of your voice when you came up behind that slowed arsed noddy car.
Nice Panerai
pink panther car?
I wonder how that spark plug wire just came off on its own?? I don't think I've ever seen that before...
I'm surprised that it didn't break down
Looks like an XB falcon lol hahaha
