    I’m coming out of veterinary medicine….. I’ve decided to switch to digital marketing. Zero experience. Zero education. I’ve started researching, TH-cam, practicing on my own with small projects. I will be that 1%. ❤ thanks for the advice.

      Nice! Video editing is a great place to be. Especially when it comes to content marketing. If you want to pivot into digital marketing, I'd look into content marketing - I think there's a fit based on your skillset.

    I'll be honest with you, I saw this video was 21min long so I got reluctant to watch it. Started on 2x accelerated speed but then I noticed some quality in it and dropped down to normal speed. I watched the whole 21min and it's just a piece of gold right here. Thanks for the advice. I'm looking for a job in Toronto now. I have all my experience in digital marketing in a different language so I don't really have a portfolio in English to show off to employers which was making me really nervous and making me feel underqualified. But now I see a path. Thanks for that.

    Dude your videos have been so good and educational. I'm transitioning out of the Air Force after 5 years and have been really lost on what I want to pursue. Currently working on getting an IT certification, but I think I am more interested in pursuing something in marketing because I love being able to network and talk to people. I have some family members that work in the marketing field and I've become super interested in it after hearing some of the things they do. One area I've discovered (not entirely sure if it is considered marketing) that I like is something to the effect of a digital content manager. I'll continue to watch your videos for more inspiration!

    • @alifhuq86
      @alifhuq86  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hey Joe,
      Sounds like a big transition, you got this, my man!
      If you like people, you might want to look into:
      - Being an account executive / manager at a digital marketing agency
      - Work at experiential marketing agencies (think marketing w/ events). A company like Mosaic comes to mind
      - Work at an influencer marketing agency and be an account rep / agent
      ^ there's lots you can do :)

    This video aged pretty well im 19 and job search and looking for a job that really fits my motivations in life and I found out about digital marketing and I was like wow this really could be the answer to what I'm looking for so I started looking for ways to get started and found this video and you make a lot of finite points like not being the center of attention and making the person feel accomplished enough to share their advice and still keeping them in touch to let feel like they really helped therefore keeping a good connection with showing you really were listening and not using this video taught me a lot thx man

    This video was very informative! I graduated with a marketing degree in December and I’ve been spending months trying to land a marketing job. I’ve written dozens of cover letters and emails but haven’t even landed a single marketing interview. I started pursuing a sales career instead because of this. I gave up because I thought I tried everything. I hope that I can find something with these tactics

      Hi Austin. I’m on the same boat That’s why I pursued a Masters degree in marketing. I’m still on the job search hunt for a digital marketing degree but I ultimately want to go into psychology. But I want a good marketing job to work while I pivot into psychology.

      @Just a Guy that’s great! I actually found out that google has a ton of courses that you can buy for cheap that actually goes into implementing things and you get a certification certificate after completion. I’m doing 3 of them & I’ve learned more from that than my 5 years of college. With SEO, it shows you exactly what to do and how to find key words to use. Something worth looking into if you’re interested!

    Hey Alif,
    Great video, I live in Toronto as well, about a 10 min drive from York University :P
    Had a couple of questions:
    1. You mentioned having a side project that you can put on your resume using marketing terminology - how important is it that you achieve quantifiable results with this project? (I.e. If I run a blog, is it enough to say I can copy write, write creatively, optimize my titles for SEO, etc. or do I need to have a certain search engine rank on Google, certain amount of traffic, and / or a certain number of social media followers in order to be taken seriously by agencies?) Are results as important as having the experience?
    2. Related to the above question, did you create a portfolio showcasing your work in addition to that 20 min video you made? What sorts of pieces did you include in your portfolio?
    3. When starting out, do you recommend focusing on just one area (i.e. SEO, copy writing, or paid ads) and mastering that, or do you recommend becoming a jack of all trades?
    4. Do you have any experience with Acadium? Sometimes it’s difficult to obtain internships unless your a student… curious if you’ve had any experience with them in order to build up that resume and portfolio?
    Any advice you have in addition to this video would be great, I really like your strategy… want to follow you as much as possible :P Thanks again!

    • @alifhuq86
      @alifhuq86  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey! You live pretty close to me, that's wild! To answer your questions:
      1 - The more results you can provide, the better. Even better if you could link to the blogs, too. If you can't that's fine, try to air on the side of more quantifiable metrics and more proof of work.
      2 - From what I recall, for this approach, I didn't include a portfolio. But I do use them a lot nowadays. I'll be releasing a new video in this topic soon.
      3 - If you already know what you want to do and what skill of digital marketing you like the best, stick with it and become really good at it. The more specialized you can get, the more you'll get paid later on. If you don't know which route you want to go, I'd recommend starting in a generalist role, figuring out which skill you like the most and then double down from there.
      4 - I don't have experience personally using them. I heard mixed reviews, but generally leaning towards the positive.

      Hey, you asked some very sensible questions that I also had but were able to put them into words much better than me. I was wondering where you are in your journey now? I copywrite freelance where I am hired to use AI to flood Google with really bland blogs on boring subjects that no one ever reads. I don't know how to get away from this into something more meaningful, the hundreds of applications i've made for 'real' copywriting jobs have been ignored or rejected and I feel it must be because this type of copywriting is looked down on (which I understand) my next move is to take one of the Google digital marketing diplomas but I honestly don't know if it's going to make a difference.

    • @brokenbuzzardproductions
      @brokenbuzzardproductions 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@elharrop Hey, I can tell you right now that having the Google digital ads diplomas does make a difference, and it’s not everything.
      How committed are you to a career in digital marketing? I ask b/c I’m currently enrolled in a program that’s been really helpful, and while it doesn’t make you immune to rejection by any means, it opens up a lot of doors for you in terms of getting in front of hiring managers and getting interviews.
      Funny enough, someone in the program actually worked freelance for Alif.
      It’s an investment of time and money; I can tell you right now that you’ll see a major difference in your brand and the opportunities you receive if you actually implement everything they tell you in this program.
      A lot of it is similar to what is discussed in this video, just that you have access to lots of resources, and a career coach who used to be a VP of marketing for a lot of different companies.
      I just talk about it b/c that’s where I’m currently at in my journey.

    Hi Alif! I'm back watching this video again. I've been taking your advice and getting a few interviews but have yet to land a job. Do you think this strategy still works in 2023? Is there anything else I could add to make me stand out even more from the crowd of applicants now? Love your content! Thanks for sharing the advice!

    • @alifhuq86
      @alifhuq86  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Emily, do you mean you've landed coffee chats or job interviews?
      If you've landed job interviews but can't seem to pass them, then I advise you to focus your efforts on your interview skills.
      If it's coffee chats / informational interviews, here's what I'd recommend you do:
      (I'm going to assume you have digital marketing skills already)
      - Ramp up the number of coffee chats you do per week
      - Post call, add the contact into an excel sheet, and every other week, send them a message to keep yourself top of mind for them (if they post content, leave thoughtful comments on their posts)
      - If you see one of your contacts has a job opening, do the strategy I describe in the video where you go out of your way to provide value to them via a project
      To answer your question, does this work in 2023? Yes.
      Let me know your thoughts!
