    I am in digital marketing and I can tell you it is awesome, plus, it’s a highly remote position where you don’t have to fight the traffic and get to the office. Plus the skills are very broad and it is very 2nd job friendly.
    Only downside is that it is prone to being outsourced. It’s what you offer that an outsourced worker can’t do that counts

    • @ShaneHummus
      @ShaneHummus  2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Agreed

    • @sethjared
      @sethjared 2 ปีที่แล้ว +35

      That's great, congrats on your job! Regarding outsourcing, in my experience there is such an abundance of jobs and low supply of skilled workers that outsourcing isn't a real threat. As you mention, the value of the skills is what matters. In the early days when there was less paid competition for PPC and when Google was less sophisticated, it was possible to outsource low quality PPC and SEO and yield results. But now, companies that outsouce their marketing to save money usually pay in the long run. If outsourcing were truly that common then the job market would not have grown 5X in the last year, from about 25,000 to 40,000 open daily jobs in the US to anywhere from 175,000 to 250,000 a day.

    Unsure what the situation is like in the West, but you really gotta watch out for job descriptions and probe well in the interview. Because digital marketing is still really new to a lot of companies, a lot don't understand what to reasonably expect of you. Watching this after recieving my first paycheck from my first full time digital marketing job (SEO) it really is crazy. I had 0 skills, no degree was just a pothead loser before. Now not only did I land a position but they told me I was overqualified for the position and gave me the specialist position instead of associate + an extra 10k to what they were gonna pay me.
    Guys I never made over 20k yearly. Minimum wage was all I was used to. Now I'm at 60k!
    It really is true the market for digital marketers is HOT! Its not too late! That's what I thought but everything he says is absolutely still up to date! Thats ducking triple I was making! The pay raise they game was AT LEAST half of what I used to make in a year.

      That's basically what I teach in the course. But as Shane points out - job postings are wildly inaccurate and often the product of an HR Rep who has no clue about the actual needs of technical professionals. Similarly most jobs say BA required but it's almost never really the case. If you watch any of the walkthrough videos on my channel you can see me go over specific postings and how to "decipher" the language. Most of my students get jobs that say 1-4 years experience required based on the experience they generate from my training that shows they understand the basics. The deman is high, the supply of skilled workers is low - meaning employers say they want x years of experience but are really open to less.

      Hey Veronica - a degree is irrelevant in this field. The goal is to make sales, so if someone can help a company get more exposure and sales, they really don't care about a degree. I've helped a lot of people switch careers, so yes. However do you live in Brazil? There are actually a number of jobs in Brazil but I don't know enough about the market to speak about the pay, but it is likely lower than in Western countries. You can also freelance for Western companies.

    You will get much more views if you structure these videos differently rather than a long and time-consuming video. There are some very interesting topics in these videos that should be used more efficiently. Try to make it a documentary and journalism style like WSJ.
    For example:
    Shane: the demand for this job was... blah blah..., and it keeps going up because blah blah.... but it wasn't always like this... (then try to make a transition line towards the guest speaker)
    Video Guest: *gives you crucial information about the topic, and later adds on something else that can be a counterargument or a different perspective*
    Shane: This is not the only time we see this (bring up another source) and talk about it for a minute or two before transitioning to another quote from the guest speaker.
    Video example: Why Global Supply Chains May Never Be the Same | A WSJ Documentary
    It will catch more viewers' attention if you have an 8-12 minute video rather than 24 minutes.
    Also, you can put some effect in between transitions, intense music in the background, or anything that would immediately grab the viewer's attention. The first 10 seconds of the video are the most important so start off by talking about something that can relate to the viewer (since you are making videos that can benefit your viewers)
    Keep up the grind man!

So if you are a resident of India you would either apply to local jobs or frelance for Western companies. The kinds of salaries I talk about in the $60K+USD Range are for jobs based in the US and other Western countries, whereas salaries for the job market in India is less.

      Hey James - whether you study with me or not (and by no means do I suggest that you need to), I would skip the expense of a Master's program. Employers simply do not care about a degree in this field, they are going to care about your hands on experience, skills, and knowledge working with actual accounts, which you rarely get in school. I have dealt with so many grads from both undergrad and graduate marketing and digital marketing programs who still didn't know how to get a job after graduating.

      Hi, so the truth is that a class certificate is completely meaningless to an employer. So you have a ton of these digital marketing bootcamps and courses giving out certifications, but a hiring manager cannot derive any value from that and their students aren't getting jobs like mine are. Students like certificates because we've been trained to like gold stars and achievement documents in school, so I could give one out, but I don't like to pander to my students.
      If you take the full training I teach people how the skills and how to generate experience and communicate that on a resume so a hiring manager will want to talk to you. No certificate will do that.
