Hey guys! Jacob has been cooking rice recently at home, so I had to brought him to the camera. 😁 Hope you guys get some good laugh watching this video! BEFORE Matcha Dutch Pancake recipe video, I really wanted to share this Korean purple rice real quick with you. A lot of you asked me how to make Korean purple rice and how to cook them so perfectly. I really wanted to explain all the details so the video is a bit long, hope you don't mind! Thanks for watching! Love you!! ❤️ Get written recipe here -> seonkyounglongest.com/korean-purple-multigrain-rice/
Ah - I knew you had the cutest measuring spoons but they also come in a measuring cup sizes?! Can you link where to buy them? I have to add to my collection, so cute!!! :D
I’ll be honest, I skipped this one originally but then decided to watch after you mentioned it in your newest video. Boy am I happy you mentioned it because it was so fun va to watch. You guys are so cute in this video ♥️
I did the same thing! I use my instant pot as a rice cooker (almost exclusively) so I didn't think to watch it. I love how we get both recipes and personalities with these videos.
I use a Zojirushi rice cooker and have had mine for 20 years. Love it! I soak my multigrain rice for 1 hour, then cook. Comes out perfect all the time.
this is my absolute favorite kind of rice! I like to say it's because of all the different textures and (probably) nutrients, but it's definitely mostly because it's purple lol.
I just bought that same exact rice cooker and looks intimidating but your video is helpful. Works amazing since I love this mixed Korean rice. No presoaking needed for busy people.
I've always wanted to buy a cookoo! Love those little rice makers. Because every rice maker I have ever bought, my kids say they don't like the taste of the rice. So I have to make it the old-fashion way I was taught how to do it. So you turn the oven onto 375*F and preheat. Then you measure out your rice from the 1:2 ratio, but it's actually like 3/4:2 ratio. Because you are going to wash the rice before you put it into the melted butter in the pot. I do like 1/2 TB. unsalted butter per 1 cup of rice. But I make like 4 cups of rice at a time because these kids eat it all the time. I only buy jasmine for them but I love other flavors of rice too. So you wash the white rice, then drain it. Then you add it to the pot of melted butter, stir to coat so it doesn't stick and you get those perfect individual grains of rice. Then you add the water. so for every 1 cup of rice for example, you will add almost 2 cups of water. Because you've already washed the rice and it has already absorbed some water. So it would be like 1 & 3/4 cups of water instead of 2 cups even. Then you add you 2 tsp. of salt. And stir it gently and cook it over medium heat until it comes to a boil. The very moment you see little bubbles in you rice water, cover it with a lid, and put the pot into the oven for 25 minutes. When it is done, pull it out carefully because it's hot, including the lid. And let it sit for 15 minutes untouched. Then you can fluff up the rice when it's time. You will see it is all perfectly cooked with no scorched bottom. Great share. Thanks for sharing.
I've had my Zojirushi for at least 12 years and could never go back to trying to cook rice without it. I've mixed black rice in to my usual Koshihikari for purple rice, but this looks like a nice way to get a different mixture of nutrition.
I was just thinking I should look up a recipe for this since my local Korean restaurant gave me plain rice instead (I'm sure they ran out or didn't want to make a small amount). Great timing!
ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ까글까끌ㅋㅋㅋㅋ한국분이시군요 Im so happy to see puple rice in this video, i really love 흑미밥😘 these days i cooked rice with oat. The texture of rice is really good🌿
Great video guys. This is the first time I’ve commented on your video. Just wanted to say I’ve been motivated to go back to my Korean root and make the iconic Korean dishes because of y’all once I retired from the Air Force in Nov ‘20 and after my mother passed away. Thank you for the great videos over the years to remember my childhood years by simply making the food I remembered my mother made for me and my brother.
My husband and I watched this video and we bought a cuckoo just to make this rice. I love it. I even thought my 10 year old how to use it. Its so easy and worth buying.
Folding seaweed packet is the best trick ever. My parents always have seaweed at their house and they don't even knows this trick. BTW, Seonkyoung has 2 rice cookers - cuckoo and Jacob. Can only buy one at the store though☹️
thank you for posting this video. this is actually very helpful and interesting! as someone not culturally raised on purple rice and have come to appreciate and love it, learning how is so important so thank you for sharing!
LOL....Love ya guys dear Seonkyoung and Jacob, good and FUN times ALWAYS in your Kitchen! Well, unfortunately I don't have a Cuckoo rice cooker, but I have see those varieties of rice at the Whole Foods Asian section so.....like you say Seonkyoung, it pays to invest in a rice cooker made specifically for cooking rice and not trying to do it in a Insta-Pot! Thumbs up and drooling over the yummy purple rice eatened with the crispy, salty sea toasted seaweed! :)
I love this! It tasted so good! I have a question, can this be done in a regular cooking pan? Instead of a rice cooker? Also, whats the name of the song at the beginning? Been bearing in the videos and it’s lovely!
I was just watching your silken tofu soup recipe, and you mentioned something about your purple rice video not getting much love. So I decided to come by and watch it. I think the only issue was that the audio wasn’t as clear as your other videos. Unless that was just on my end. But anyway, I really enjoyed watching it and I learned something about the different rices and I am really in love with that rice cooker. I didn’t hear of that brand before so I am looking into investing in one. I definitely want to try this recipe now, So thanks for mentioning it in the other video. If the audio was an issue to others, then that’s probably the reason why I didn’t get as many views. But you two really are cute together and I love seeing your family members on the show!
I make a batch of this and keep it in the freezer so i can enjoy it for the rest of the week, i dont have that kind of rice cooker so i always pre-soak it the night before and cook it on stove top.
Hello, I was wondering which option did you set your rice to be when you cook it? I have a Zojirushi rice cooker so not sure if I should leave it as regular or mixed or the other options. Thank you
You guys are so cute together! You are so beautiful . Thank you for sharing. I do not have a rice cooker so I will work out my own ratios. Stay healthy and happy. 💐
I love this video! Thank you for your help making perfect rice, I tried you guys' rice combination and it was a hit for my family. ALSO, YOU GUYS ARE SO FUNNY, thanks for the smiles! happy holidays!
I have the newer cuckoo rice cooker and I tried making purple rice with korean premium white rice and 12 grain mixed grain with some purple grain. But it comes out too sticky. How do I make it come out. A little bit more fluffy and dried? And of course I washed my rice til it's clear with finger method on the water. Which setting is preferred?
lmfao i just came from the sundubu jiggae video and you said how this video didn't get much love and i think it's bc ppl are in love with u and they don't wanna see u w someone else 🤣
❤it looks really delicious 😋 I’m going to try it soon only one question do I have to add any salt 🧂 stuff the thing I love or no thank you 🙏 you two are really sweet and awesome 💝
Now I need to go buy fancy rice and a Bougie rice cooker, lol! It really does look delicious though. Are we going to see a makgeolli (makkoli) video soon too? The Instagram teasers are making me thirsty!
What region of Korea is the Purple Rice from or what region is known for that? There is a restaurant here on Oahu, Hawaii called Jagalchi known for serving many dishes from the Southern portion of South Korea and Jeju-do. This is the only restaurant I know of that serves the Purple Rice.

A friend once told me that the real secret to 손맛 is that it means someone else made it for you! Love this video with you both! ❤️❤️
I use a Zojirushi rice cooker and have had mine for 20 years. Love it! I soak my multigrain rice for 1 hour, then cook. Comes out perfect all the time.
You guys are so cute together. Made me happy watching y’all even just cooking rice.
this is my absolute favorite kind of rice! I like to say it's because of all the different textures and (probably) nutrients, but it's definitely mostly because it's purple lol.
Looks like jacob is assimilating nicely to an asian household.
I love it when you two are on the vlogs together.
I just bought that same exact rice cooker and looks intimidating but your video is helpful. Works amazing since I love this mixed Korean rice. No presoaking needed for busy people.
Doing as told and watching this in response to her request in the soondebujigae (sp?) Upload lol

That rice cooker sounds like a door chamber. I want one!🤩
I was just thinking I should look up a recipe for this since my local Korean restaurant gave me plain rice instead (I'm sure they ran out or didn't want to make a small amount). Great timing!
