@@crae_s Interesting. I've been trialing the Alogic monitors some of which include touch screens - connected into a Mac it's quite a cool experience. I like your idea about letting the user choose on first boot up.
If Apple wants iPad to be a companion to the Mac I think we need the following more Mac apps: We could’ve had an upgrade to swift playgrounds to make it more like Xcode. I like the idea of the ability to remote on a Mac. Subscription based if you don’t have one (because it’s a VM on cloud) or free if you do have a Mac.
The ideal solution is just dual boot iPadOS and MacOS. Better than “DEXIFYING” iPadOS because you’d have the existing library of Mac apps. But that would result in killing a large chunk of Mac sales so it will never happen.
@@ThatMarkGilroy Absolutely. I have made that as the upside for Apple case. They could kill Windows for most consumers. But I now think that this is what keyboarded support is meant to do. My wife for instance has used her iPad Air as her only computer for years. I have come to the realization they will never give dual boot at a price for the masses. They will make iPadOS just good enough to entice basic users away. The simplicity of iPadOS is a feature not a bug for those types. If Apple does it they would lock it to high end machines. If they do it they’d do it on an exclusive high end model that would start at maybe 2500-3000 (before keyboard and pencil) so it would be as profitable than an iPad Pro and Mac Air combined. Maybe that future 14 inch rumored iPad?
The problem with the iPad is the fact that people buy it with intentions of using a MacBook if they made the iPad as capable as a MacBook why would they sell both anymore you guys fall for the iPad Pro every year
I think ‘capable’ is the key word here. You could also argue they made MacOS *too* capable. Once you’ve used it it’s really hard to use anything that feels/looks remotely like a laptop because it’ll automatically not be capable enough.
iPadOS needs to be a bridge between iOS and MacOS, as for consumers, the iPad is expensive, and for business iPadOS isn’t compatible enough, there needs to be the ability to download apps from online and not just the App Store as many businesses will not be able or bothered making an app for the App Store and it’s just downloadable from the internet features like that could make the iPad a very popular device for both home consumers and businesses
Well put Ryan. In fact far better said than what I was trying to convey in idea 3. It’s about finding a practical middle ground that works when it needs to.
@@ThatMarkGilroy the thing is you have the baby given an iPad to watch cocomelon then you have the person who needs an incredible portable computer, you need to have a easy to use, yet complex enough that you would prefer to use it when you need to do advanced tasks
You’ve got some great ideas that could help Apple keep the iPads worth their price; I would love to have something like Samsung Dex available with my iPad mini! The versatility of a desktop to plug in when I need it but also an ultra portable tablet? Killer!
I think the iPad is a great tablet, attached to a keyboard it’s a touchscreen netbook. The iPad would never have macOS or windows full capabilities. The iPad is for casual portable computing use cases. People who purchase iPads know what they will do with it.
You missed the full phrase. It’s master of none but better than master of one. LOL also WHAAAA? No I don’t want to sub for apps. I’d rather buy it and be done cuz I “own it” and don’t have to pay more.
Which type of iPad person are you?
The type that will die on the hill of iPad Mini. 🙂
I’ll be there with you mate.

ipad non-pro but 14" ;)
That is a big iPad! But I love my 14” MacBook Pro so why not.
Yeah now that they didn't update iPad OS as much as people were hoping for people are returning their iPad Pro M4's in droves!

Good point.

Yep. Although being optimistic about this solution, it might end up converting people to MacOS who would never have tried it....!

Dex (or Apple’s version of it) would be PERFECT on the Mini. I wonder if they’ll make it a VisionOS thing instead.

"The iPad is for casual portable computing use cases" - the issue with this is that they have M4 chips and a laptop price tag.
