For me what matters the most in iPad as in art design devices is storage, air is already pretty good from what I’m upgrading I just care about big storage.
For illustration, go for the Air M2, for gaming, go for the Pro M4. As I only draw, I will stick to my Pro M1, but if I need to replace, I would choose the Air M2. Great video!
The problem is the difference in the screen. 120hz is obviously preferred, esp if you work in animation. Not to mention the color accuracy is much better as well as the brightness and Face ID is a lot more convenient. The pro also has I think more RAM which gives more layers and is better optimized for the chip. Rn you can get an M2 Pro for the same price as the new Air with the only real difference that would sway your decision being the pencil which you really don’t need.
I just got mine yesterday!!!(air 13”) it’s the best!!! Now I’m waiting for my pencil pro!!! My first IPad Your videos are great by the way, glad you’re back 😊❤
This is an honest artist review, not someone who tag them as artist that cannot live without promotion... I am using an iPad Pro 2017 12.9 inch, and I always turn on the low power mode to save the batteries, and mostly using it to draw mind map and sometimes procreate. As I am always at low power mode, I don't use the pro motion, but as you say, it doesn't matter, and normally while drawing or writing, no one draw a tons of line to across the whole screen in the fastest speed, to see if 120HZ can help the line follow your pen tips. I would like to upgrade, but the reason is because of the weight, as I figure out I am more a Mac person to edit the video, so a 16 inch MacBook Pro will suit me much better, and I can compromise the size of iPad to gain a bit of the portability, after iPad OS 18 update, I finally have no hesitation to go to a smaller iPad, call me back while the iPad OS can run Mac app, they use the microLED or some kind of OLED without burning issue, plus a headphone jack and at least two USB-C port 💗💗💗
I have bought my first tablet in 2017. The very first Ipadpro 13” model. Now after almost 7 years it has aged terribly after extensive use of hours of drawings per day. I’m looking to buy a new one just to get back the ease of use of a new device. Air model looks mighty beneficial now than the pro costing 1500€ in Europe. It’s wild.
I've been using a 7th gen iPad (10'') for 6 years now. Procreate, have done some AMAZING horse (as I'm an equine artist) illustrations. People really think it holds you back having so little layers (mine is about 25-35.. can't remember) for the size I draw and it's never much bothered me. There's been some times I've definitely needed more - but I've made it work. Only just made the jump and got an iPad Air 2024 (11'') today which I collect on Tuesday (as it wasn't in stock so ordered in)... so really you don't exactly need one of these iPads - or a newer one for that matter - the only reason I took the dive is just genuinely for refresh rate (although the 7th gen is still pretty good) and the fact I didn't want that layer of glass anymore between my pencil. AND, I really wanted the pro pencil with the quick tap and squeeze functionality - again these aren't really needed but will make drawing a bit more of a breeze. but if you've never had it, you'll never realise what you might be missing.
Found an M2 iPad Pro 12.9 with 256 GB for $899. Trying to decide if this is better than the iPad Air 13" or if the Air beats it for digital art due to the new pen... Got a couple days to decide.
I just upgraded to the M4 pro. The pencil pro for specifically drawing isn’t much of an improvement. The Apple hover thing is a big improvement, but the M2 pro already has that. Unless you really need that extra shortcut I wouldn’t worry about it. The screen is better on the pro, and personally I like the Lidar. The only knock on the pencil 2nd gen. Might be phased out soon, as the iPad mini is the only active iPad that supports it now that they sell, and that’s bound to get an update soon. So if you plan to keep it for 5 years and in 3 years your pen is lost or breaks this will be hard to replace.
@@sloppynyuszi thank you! so what you’re telling me is to buy a couple extra pencil 2 just in case 😎. Thanks. I have seen pro art made by artists with the 2018 and M1 models. Amazing art with older pros.
@@brandondelgado7731 the iPad has been my digital sketchpad since the first one, when I had to use my finger 😂 the original iPad Pro was already good enough for actual pro work 😉 and if you can’t do pro work with that maybe it’s the user at that point. Saying that, the grunt helps a lot, for me I like to brainstorm animatics in procreate and you can run out of layers pretty quick doing that. I’m upgraded from an M1. I have a 4k animation that was chugging on it, and I really wanted hover. The hover is the most noticeable improvement. My animation is still bugging out, just a little less
@@george-ng5gj i went along with the Air. I don't regret it. The screen is a 60hz IPS, but your eyes get used to it eventually. Unless you're dealing with a LOT of black, then the IPS feels quite great 90% of the time. I also realised that even with 60hz that most of what I'm doing is still. My canvas isn't moving much, I scroll but not too much, and it's the best big screen I own after my phone so even if it's 60hz it feels faster because of how choppy every other screen (2016 HP Elitebook and some Dell monitor) looks. I'm definitely upgrading to the m4 Pro next year no question, but if you need the Apple Pencil Pro, then by all means I can happily recommend the M2 Air
I just treated myself to the last generation Ipad mini 6th gen on sale on amazon as a Christmas present. After not owning a tablet in ages. I'm still slowly getting the hang of having a tablet again and very much loving it thus far after finding time on actually using it now that i recently got a stylus for it. This was a really solid video Elena. I probably will plan on upgrading my tablet when they probably come out with a new bigger screen version of the mini. :)
I’d go for the smaller and get an external Harddrive for backups or a cloud storage if you need more 🙂 getting the bigger storage version of apple products is usually much more expensive than that
Good video, but you are wrong about the size - not all artist need a big screen! You can sketch and draw professionally on an ipad mini. Size matters, yes. But not as you seems to believe. Sometimes the small screen is much more convenient.

I'll say if you want to do artwork on a professional level, then it's worth getting a pro if you can afford one. For me, I think Air is just a mid-tier product in the iPad line-up whose purpose is to upsell you into getting an iPad pro.
I think what matters here is that you can still use both for professional purposes in art and design, the difference is a price range which already is a big deal breaker for most.

Having a good iPad is nice, but I’ve had the regular 8th gen with only 3GB of ram, and I’m doing fine (I use procreate). If you’re really trying to be professional then maybe it’s worth it, but honestly working on a regular iPad is really not that limiting and it’s like $600 cheaper.
Excuse me idk if you'll see this but theres someone impersonating you and stealing your art and claiming it as theirs, they made a few videos claiming it was theirs and a community post too, their channel name is "fljordwindheart" or something. Im just saying this to spread awareness! Also to anyone else seeing this don't comment on the impersonator's videos because that will give them more comments and it'll help them. "i dont know who asked for this feature but its nice" i lost around 3 pencils already you just put them down sometimes and they teleport into a a parallel universe and you never see it again this feature is life changing
I almost lost my apple pencil at college thinking I had forgotten it on the 11th floor and went to look for it there. Only to not be where I sat and draw. It scared me so much that I almost bought another pencil (can’t draw with fingers), but I founf it in my backpack. After that incident, I never lost it again outside of the house.
Devices don’t age, they are simply crippled by new updates intentionally so as to pump our consumerism warlords with money indefinitely. If I were to be smart enough to build iPads I I would make one work for 30years no problem, bet my life on it. Anyway nice clear video, I didn’t knew what to buy from all the overly complex videos out there but yours is straight to the point and clear. Thx!
That is a real thing! I studied it for a few classes in college (I majored in Industrial Design). This concept is called called planned obsolescence and it doesn’t just apply to phones, computers, and tablets. It’s used in many other industries such as fashion, appliances, even furniture (esp adjustable stuff like standing desks and office chairs)
I have been waiting for a long time, when will there be a digital artist who will give reasons that we should buy which iPod is the best for drawing? Because there are only ordinary people or those who are hired to review who give reasons for choosing which iPod model to buy even though they do not use it for digital drawing. Today I have the results, it is clear. Thank you very much. Ditladprao from Thailand. 25/06/2024
i do draw professionaly and ipad air 13 is absolutely good enough, its even perfect, the only complain is maybe a side car if you wanna use it as a graphic tablet for mac, sometimes pressure is too weak and you have to go to options on a program to adjust it but other than that i mostly use procreate, procreate dreams and nomad. I love it. also it works nicely with blender too. also M2? its so enough for an ipad. ipad m4 if you wanna have it for 10 years or sth idk, unless it breaks midlife or sth. additionally another tiny 2 complains: my ipad warms ups alot while using procreates but idk if that's my ipad's problem or it is in general, even tho battery lasts long on its own, procreate normal and dreams drain battery kinda quickly but its still better than Air 4 11" from which ive moved. So like charging it pretty often is to expected. IDK why im saying that also but if you charge ipad with a 61W which i wouldn't recommend it (15-45W are recommended)glitches apple pen while charging for me everytime i put my palm on the screen so i have to charge it off of my windows laptop usb C which is funny because it doesn't glitch then, but that is more of a me problem. I've seen alot of people unboxing that ipad with a charger brick already inside but i didn't get one is it like an continental difference thing or is it like an option, i didn't find any option like that.
iPad is not the omly tablet that artist can draw on.Many reviewers are over rating the iPad. And the new iPads are not as lasting as those very old ones. Yes, I have them for so long, and the older ones outlast my new iPad Air.
I have never bought the idea that the M chips are too good for what the iPad can do, because you can make that argument about every chip in every device apple sells that people don't fully use. People will buy an iPhone 15 pro max and never do ANYTHING real with it. They'll watch TH-cam, play some simple games, and that's it. The a 17 pro is just as powerful as the M1, and nobody complains there. People will take 12mp JPEGs on a phone that can do 48mp raw, and take a 1080p standard video with a phone that can record in LOG, yet it costs almost as much as the iPad pro 13". It has hardware accelerated raytracing, only for people to play subway surfers. It has a lidar scanner people won't use. Basically, it's "too powerful." The problem isn't necessarily iPad OS (which isn't without fault cause stage manager is annoying in how on a monitor you cannot use apps in full screen, almost ever, but that's kinda developers' fault), it's the users themselves who can't think of ways to push the iPads to their limits. Some do, and it's for them that the m4 exists.
Hey there! If you're not aware, this person @fljordwind youtube.com/@fljordwind?si=4xcZdgEaBIt9EqLo is impersonating to be you and stealing your art. I hope you take some actions against that. Nice art btw.

@@kushalanimation5452 paperlike mentions having distributors in India on their website... maybe there its just a temporary thing. or you could try to contact them through their website to ask what retailers sell them in india exactly.. Thank you 🙏🏾 helpful info 👍🏽👍🏽
Was this the munich apple store ?
The one I walk into ? Yes
How about galaxy s9 ultra? Thats 14 inch screen
Honestly haven’t tried Samsung yet
I think samsung doesn't promote its products vigorously.Apple is just too much expensive and boisterous.I guess it would be good as well.
It should be good enough. There's pro grade apps for illustration, like Art Rage Pro, or Affinity Photo. Definitely worth a try.
Great Video Thank you 🙏
Uhhhhhhhhhhhh finally, are you back??!?! ❤
Yeeeeeeeeeesssssss!
@@fjordwind this makes me so happy! 🤩
So please just report them!
thank you for letting me know !

Thx!
@@Todrianth maybe youre right with that and thank you !
That is a real thing! I studied it for a few classes in college (I majored in Industrial Design). This concept is called called planned obsolescence and it doesn’t just apply to phones, computers, and tablets. It’s used in many other industries such as fashion, appliances, even furniture (esp adjustable stuff like standing desks and office chairs)

iPad Pro 13' 2022 has fantastic colors. It's much better than iPad Air 13 2024 for artists
You're wonderful!
If there wasn't Apple, you'd invent it!
Great!❤
Wow, thank you mum ! :D ♥ ♥
The problem is that Air takes longer time to recharge and we all know how time is important for commissions deadlines

Thank you very much.

i do draw professionaly and ipad air 13 is absolutely good enough, its even perfect, the only complain is maybe a side car if you wanna use it as a graphic tablet for mac, sometimes pressure is too weak and you have to go to options on a program to adjust it but other than that i mostly use procreate, procreate dreams and nomad. I love it. also it works nicely with blender too. also M2? its so enough for an ipad. ipad m4 if you wanna have it for 10 years or sth idk, unless it breaks midlife or sth.
additionally another tiny 2 complains: my ipad warms ups alot while using procreates but idk if that's my ipad's problem or it is in general, even tho battery lasts long on its own, procreate normal and dreams drain battery kinda quickly but its still better than Air 4 11" from which ive moved.
16GB RAM ? what did she draw ?
Basically, it's "too powerful."
The problem isn't necessarily iPad OS (which isn't without fault cause stage manager is annoying in how on a monitor you cannot use apps in full screen, almost ever, but that's kinda developers' fault), it's the users themselves who can't think of ways to push the iPads to their limits. Some do, and it's for them that the m4 exists.
Love your accent.
Thank you! 😃
11 inches is plenty good enough its basically like drawing on an a4 paper. And if you cant draw on an a4 paper then you just got skill issue
