    I think most Texas Game Wardens just want you to be safe with firearms . I have 10 acres and I also have a large backstop
    made from skitter tires stacked up . Two Game Wardens came to my house looking for my closest neighbor 1/2 mile from
    me . She called them because someone was shooting across her land . The one Game Warden looked at my shooting backstop
    and said "I wish other people would make those." I shoot a lot and am as safe as possible and they know it , so the Wardens and
    I are good .

      Exactly. If you're going to shoot on your property, then just do the right thing and build a backstop/berm.

      @@jerrypauling7809 I understand your point of view however I grew up on 100 acres and we had approximately 50 deer that stay pretty much on our property and laid around under oak trees but in the rut they wander off our rich neighbor being a drug dealer high fenced and brought in exotics during the rut .and now we have few deer .a neighbor on the other side high fenced because they hated white ppl. The neighbor to the north high fenced to bring in exotics to bring in paid hunts. Now we have very few deer nothing big or different comes in. If you hunt it's like shooting fish in a barrel and killing pets. High fencing ruins free range which is what God intended for wild animal to do. It should be illegal. It's also selfish and greedy. Every hunter rich or poor should have access to hunting. Remember that ppl that.only buy small tracts may not have a lot of money and over the years it will pay off hunting. Meat isn't cheap especially when garbage like Obama. Biden Harris etc are in office so think about others and for God's sake wild animals are wild they deserve to run free. It's nature's way

Theres a huge pile of dirt maybe 10 ft tall 35 ft wide on back corner towards a non used 3000 acre ranch. I put corn at base of the pile of dirt in the middle of pile and neck shoot at 35 yds never miss never had a deer run never had a slug stray. Its shot placement and direction you shoot that makes it safe ck with local law enforcement before you take a chance. Im lucky. That's gonna be a wide range of variations. You may find some for 5k per acre, and others at 500k per acre. Just way to many variables. Texas has all 5 major ecosystem types of the entire US. Best to just go out and price the mkt value of acreage in the specific area you are interested in. Even then there will be plenty of variables. Eg, access to water,(surface, water table, aquafer,) access to roads, pasture,(improved/unimproved,) fences?, historical use, flat/slope and gradient, topsoil, adjacent property and it's use,.....etc,.... Oh, and mineral rights as well as presence of timber. Still plenty more, but you get it 😉👊

  • @RealRadNek
    @RealRadNek 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    But what about archery hunting? I called the game warden in Spring Texas and asked what the minimum was and he said there was none. So at least in 2018 when I asked, with a bow you could kill a deer in Spring Texas on a quarter acre lot as long as your arrow did not cross the property line. Didn't ask about firearm as hunting with a gun bores me :).

    • @Isaacmantx
      @Isaacmantx 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Ya, this is all JUST firearms applicable. I have checked the regs of most of the Dallas area suburbs within a 20 minute drive of where I live… “just in case” I happen to get permission on a small piece of land. There are absolutely zero of those cities that have made it unlawful to archery hunt on private property, regardless of property size. Every single one of them have restrictions on firearms discharge on private land, and firing archery equipment in city parks or other city property.
      Heck, I have pulled several archery and shotgun hunting permits for Army Corps land within city limits.

    • @RealRadNek
      @RealRadNek 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@Isaacmantx I do know that the City of Houston does have an ordinance against hunting (bow or rifle) within the City limit. This seems reasonable but actually is very unfortunate as there are many bigger pieces of property you can access within Houston City limits that are forested and have lots of deer, especially in the North and Northeast portions of the city. I had a conversation with a gentleman at the public bow range in Spring, Texas who owned a house on 5 acres in NE Houston within the City limits. He said, "Yah, I'm not suppose to shoot deer on my property [with a wink wink and nod nod]." He basically admitted to me without admitting that he kills a nice buck every year with his bow on his property. Bottom line is, I would never buy a place where I know I could kill big deer with my bow that has a law against hunting.

You can find land for $500/acre but it will be desert with snakes and lizards only. Most good hunting land will be minimum $4k-$5k per acre if you buy 50 acres or more. That's if you search really hard and find a really good deal. Some counties, if you want to afford the taxes, you will need 50 acres or more to get the 1D1 Agriculture Wildlife Valuation. On my 100 acres in Edwards County, I pay on the land about $200 per year in taxes, then the small house adds another $400/year. If I did not maintain my 1D1 Wildlife management valuation tax valuation, my tax just on the land would be around $4,500/year. There's a lot to educated on. This channel is helpful and on my channel you will find a video where I interview an Edwards County real estate broker and I ask him about all these issues and buying land. I also have another video on buying land and managing it.

    Most things are 10 acres.
    It's a weird law
    But technically you have to have 10 acres to live on, in any county connected to the Rio Grande.
    This came in effect during Clinton. He put it into law.
    And I said Rip Grande. That for Texas.
    All other states it if the county boarders Mexico.
    Why he did this is unknown. I have my guesses with the Clinton's and thier connections to the Cartels. But who knows.
    Also it's not legal to sell land in those counties under 10 acres.
    Which you may ask about land that was smaller then prior. Or town /city lots.
    Best to just ask the county you are looking at.
    There is a different between what is law, and what the county will enforce.
    Add to this, you need to look at covents the land has. Some land says you can hunt a whole area.
    Others say no hunting.
    A Covent is like laws you agree to when you by land.
    Watch it because covents can say anything.
    It's possible you buy 100 acres and covents says you are not allowed to live on it.
    Or someone else has rights to use your land .
    It's kinda like a HOA. Except covents are much older.

    I bought a deer from this shady dude and hunted it. I have a quarter of an acre, everyone can do it.

    10 acres is a ridiculously small amount of land to shoot a rifle on. The state legislators (historically, arguably not the sharpest tools in the shed) should have done some math. If I shoot my 30.06 from the center of a 10 acre square, how far will the bullet go? If I shoot from the edge of 10 acres (not towards the center of a square 10 acre tract) how for will the bullet go? A long freaking way! The 10 acre requirement is nothing short of stupid. This is the second of your videos I've seen. First was about cedar trees. Great video. I live in Oklahoma but an a Texan by birth. Up here, in eastern Okieland, we have lots of cedars. I like your videos, so far. I'm a retired Petroleum Landman and retired deer/bird hunter. I'm old!

      We’ve all been taught by elders that a 22 can travel a mile. Yet who would expect you have to own a 1 mile radius to hunt. Localities can regulate areas and LE can still charge if hunting in an unsafe manner

      Not if you use common sense. If I hunted a wooded 1 acre property within the city limits, I could easily hunt it and the bullet never travel over the property line. It's called a tree stand. Know your target and know your backstop. Would I do it? No, gun bores me. I hunt with a bow.

  • @Nessal83

    My understanding is that you need 50 acres or more to shoot a firearm on your own land in TX. Proper backstop is necessary as well.

      In most areas in Texas you'll need 10 acres to discharge a firearm; however, policies in municipalities and counties vary and need to be researched individually. You're also right that a good backstop and understanding of what lies behind your target (even at a long distance) is necessary prior to opening fire.

      Here's what real Texans know: NEVER SHOOT GUNS ON YOUR OWN LAND. You're telling criminals where to come. Facts. If you have a gun or two, you'll learn on an indoor range. And stay ready for intruders with guns. You're not shooting at wildlife. That is the prize to have land, that wildlife. You're there to protect it. Unless you're wanting to brag to fellers how good at killin you're getting. Yeah, not exactly what straight men do. You want a nice life with women or a lady, you're not taking pleasure killing wildlife. Beyond sustainable necessity. Guns aren't necessary for taking animals to sustain yourselves. Anyone saying so is dog whistling for an NRA reach around at the KKK meeting in bedsheet dresses no undies.

      It’s Texas we shoot when necessary and where necessary. Sitting on 8.5 acres Deputy Sheriff here says as long as you have a burm you’re good.

    I beg to differ. Is required in the state of Texas that you have min 5 acres to hunt with stringed weapons. 25 acers to hunt with pistol or shotgun.
    100 acres to hunt with a rifle.

      @@JuarezDerrick I'm in Duval county Texas. And I called a game Warden and asked. He told me that there is no minimum acre size of property and no minimum distance from a dwelling. Actually my dad had 100 acres he lived on and he killed many deer standing in the patio door in his boxer shorts and shooting right out the door. Game Warden says that's legal here so I'm good. I'm on 2 acres with 80 acre un used ranch to the south a 640 acre ranch to the west 160 acre ranch to the north across access road and an abandoned 2 acres to the east then a row of 2 acre plots for another mile. The closet dwelling is about 450 ft so as long as I don't shoot toward a dwelling the warden said hunt but hunt safely

      Since Texas game wardens are considered to be state and federal id have to side with game wardens over the sheriff unfortunately even though the sheriff is supposed to be the closest friend in law enforcement to regular people and if a good sheriff should follow the constitution and bill of rights as a protector to the citizens who elected him/her but game wardens have stupid powers including being able to "lawfully" trespass your private property
