Thank the Spaniards , not native that’s a new age lie .

The root-balls are typically very shallow, usually not more than 12-18". An "aquifer" is typically much deeper than that, so there's no validity to the "sucking the aquifer dry" claims. Moreover, I've found SO many Oak trees (and other varieties) growing out of the middle of a Cedar stand. The Cedar provides critical soil nutrients for an Oak tree to get started. I've harvested much Cedar for firewood. It burns well, and totally saved my ass during the "big freeze" in 2021. Cedars are not "bad".

There is no cedar in United States edit: I watched the video it's great, there is a very clear delineation to the range of Juniperus virginiana and J. ashei along the Balcones escarpment's edge. Basically if you're on the left side of I-35 it's all J. ashei (Ash Juniper) vs. the right side of I-35 where it's all J. virginiana (Eastern Red Cedar). The two don't overlap. Another case for not calling the tree a "cedar" especially if you live in hill country - it's a Juniper!

What makes mad is ranchers pass away and thier kids sell the land off in 5-50 acre plots thete is no privacy. Any more thanks to the modern generations is south texas you sit in a deer blind or under a tree at a pond and all of a sudden some kid on the lil plot next to you starts thumping and vibrating with those disrespectful tradhy subwoofers. That should be illegal not just in residential areas not just in industrial areas not even just out in the country but should be illegal to own or be made those things disrupt every normal persons life. It should be illegal on earth ! Thete is no longer a place to get away and have any privacy anymore so whats the use. ? There is no respect from anyone anymore

Great video! You won't go wrong listening to this guy. We moved from central Texas to NE Texas because you can't succeed without water. Here, our average annual rainfall is 47 inches. We have seen years of 96 inches. We are on 200ac. About 140 of that is grass. 40ac Johnson grass is held back for hay. When we got here, the first thing I did was over-seed the grazing pastures with Big and Quick crab grass and Dalis grass. I incorporated Alamo Switchgrass into our Johnson grass hay meadow. We spray weeds and fertilize once a year after it dries up enough to get equipment on it. That's the same reason we lose our rye grass cut every year. When the grasses head out, we set the shredder up about as high as it will go and shred all the seed stems. This over-seeds for next year. We have managed our grazing and have run 75 mommas, bulls, and calves without any issues. Our Johnson grass/Alamo switchgrass pasture is producing 5 bales/ac/cut. We have found that good stewardship of the land is blessed. We always give 2 pieces of advice. 1- don't get greedy. 2- stop measuring time in minutes and hours and start measuring it in season. No one truly understands lost time until they have lost a season. Good luck to all, and may the Lord bless your efforts.

@David-wc7lx I've been in IT going on 10 years now. My new step dad is a rancher with somewhere around 300-400 acres total and hay plots and such, where he has the gull operation of tractors and equipment for cutting/bailing/hauling/etc. I'm totally new to the farm lifestyle but want to learn and show him that when he passes I'm not just going to sell off his land. I want a change at some point and will happily give up the IT world and carry on his legacy and what he built. Money is good but my soul gets drained. I'd rather cut back and be as happy as he is if I'm being honest.

You forgot a very important fact. Cedars are dominant pollinators. They put out so much pollen that they overwhelm other trees and prevent them from seeding. After a generation, all the trees in an area are replaced with cedars. This is why A&M recommends all orchards remove any cedars.

I've read that the Indians, or native Americans, would intentionally burn the prairies. In the past the U.S. government paid ranchers to clear cedar from their property. In more recent years the U.S. government tried to designate most of the Texas Hill Country as habitat for the Golden Cheeked Warbler and Black Capped Vireo to prevent landowners from clearing cedar. Such radical inconsistencies demonstrate why our Founders thought it best to limit the powers of the central government.
