man my old Honda was so easy to do things on compared to todays vehicles. I'm so grateful the guys like you have the skill, patients, and curtesy to show us how to on youtube!
Watched your video before doing this and a few times during the exercise. It helped immensely and worked out great. So far no leaks. I put off replacing as the shop wanted shy of $500 p&l. It was not leaking much until recently. Sure saved me some bucks. Also removed the throttle housing, cleaned and re-installed as it caused some issues. May need to replace if it still needs it. Thanks for your videos. We have a Ministry monthly where we repair cars gratis that are owned by battered women in need so I hope to use more of your techniques. We have a nice shop with lifts and tools.
Good video thanks for charing I own a jeep patriot 2015 with 115 thousand miles no problems so far just do maintenance like spark plugs, oils change transmission oil change and filters, brakes, tires,
im no handy man and after seeing you mess with those few bolts i now know i better take it in rather then spend half a day getting pissed off and wanting to strangle someone haha my 2014 patriot can only run if heater is on full blast
I have the same issue with my 2014 Jeep Patriot. I have to drive with the heater on full blast. Did you figure out what the problem was? Did you get it fixed? My car is paid off and I don't need a new car note.
I've taken it to the shop so many times. It was leaking coolant. I got that fixed then there was a problem with the hose. I got that fixed. Then it was a thermostat issue. I got that fixed. Now I think it's my fans but I swear along the way they told me they fixed that already. I don't know what else to do.
NOTE: The thermostat gasket that shows at 8:12 has its own mounting position on the thermostat itself. The way he mounted at 8:06 is not quite right (I know he did that way because of having the thermostat hole at 90 degrees at the very top thinking the air will bleed better). Just double check not moving the thermostat gasket from its original position (the thermostat hole in its right place with the gasket will be +- 135 degrees). Nice work @Rust Belt Auto
Same motor. Same experience.. I can’t get the O ring on the back seal to stay put . Either it rolls back or I see most of it on the groves hoping we’re eyes and mirror can see it’s were it should be . Tighten add water dripping within a cup full . The seal replacement number is not as tight as the original you removed and as mine was hardened. As the leak originated. So the group replacement numbers of this seal must vary or must be used a OG presumably..
@ Rust Belt Auto i have a question if you dont mind helping me. Im currently working on a 2011 Jeep Patriot with the exact same problem. Not able to diag no codes no nothing. My question is after the change of parts did client return with same issue? Or did issue go away after replacing part
Hi, your video really helped. Got a question, when my jeep patriot is idling the fans dont seem to want to turn on. You can turn the air condition on and both will come on.can you help me.Thanks,Gary
@@RustBeltAuto I guess what I am really asking is if the square sensor looking box, the one you point with your finger @4:58 (to the left of the thermostat housing) could cause a coolant leak? I am not really sure what that square box is for. I am trying to determine if the coolant leak I have is from the thermo housing or the square part. I am sure it is the thermo housing but just want to make sure.
I have a 2014 Patriot and i changed 2 thermostats and the temp sensor i also flushed the radiator and engine and it still overheats but it doesnt have any check engine light also the temp guage fluctuates.......any advise on how to fix?
What coolant did you refill with? I've gotta do this job, but waiting till summer. I dont have a garage to lay in. Just need to add to get through winter. Thanks.
@@RustBeltAuto Ok, Got it, since you showed the Part Number for the housing, I thought you might have it. Was it at your local parts store , or was it special order? Appreciate the reply !!
Anyway or oarts to bypass the thermostat. For me to remove it on these and run it cold. I dont want the thermostat in it being in texas and arizona traveking too hot to have a thermostat
Thermostats are used both to keep it at optimum temperature, and to keep it from overheating, by giving coolant in the radiator time to cool, by shutting off circulation.
I'm currently trying to attach a new housing, and for the life of me, I can't get the 3rd bolt (one closest to the front of the engine) to go in. Any tips/tricks. Did you notice an issue? I got the Dorman OE replacement housing, as well. THANK YOU!!
@RustBeltAuto Nice! Always wanted to visit there. Just an update... thanks to you and your video I was able to remedy my overheating situation. I bought the entire housing, WITH the 2 included thermostats. Put that bad boy on and the jeep is running strong again... for a minute. A couple more repairs and the entire vehicle will be new from all the replacement parts!! Yeeee Haaawwwww!!
I guess it would be stupid to ask why the hell they don't have ONE thermostat between hose and radiator like back in the day? Right in front after raising the hood? I guess I'm old and ornery. But I'll tell you what... the stupid shit they do today makes me want to pull the hair outta my freaking skull... that, or buy an old car. But i love the video. I really do. It's a great video on how to deal with stupid engineering

I seen somebody put an o ring on the thermostat that goes against the block. Is this what you are saying should be done?

Are you saying that entire housing with the thermostats in it was cheaper than buying 2 thermostats?

Make sure the fan is running, and do a block test to check for hydrocarbons in the coolant.

What kind of silicon paste did you use there?
I keep a tub of 3M silicone paste/dielectric grease laying around. It's all the same stuff.
When you're messing with the cooling system and the engine, it's best just to get OEM parts
I cannot disagree.
Yeah but oem parts are over priced and especially with domestic they are inferior to aftermarket many times. So it's not best to buy oem.

Doesn’t really matter if you use Dorman parts on GM & Chrysler products since the OE parts are absolute crap too.

Oh no everything's made of plastic!
